I'd wager 400 quatloos that we're going to see a similar reception to the Wii U as we did to the 3DS.
Most people seem to have selective memory regarding the reception to the 3DS. It was overwhelmingly positive on all side. People were applauding the graphical prowess of the machine, devs were saying things like "finally, a portable machine with these kinds of specs," and everyone was creaming their pants at the possibilities. And I just know someone is going to quote me right now and say they didn't find the 3DS impressive. I don't really give a damn if that's how some people remember it; the 3DS' initial debut was strong enough to have pachter jump his "nintendo am doomed" ship and say $250 was too cheap.
But then came vita and suddenly out of nowhere, 3DS was ancient technology powered by sticks and mud. People are going to say wow when they see nintendo's HD games. I guarantee there's going to be at least one exclusive that throws gaf into a frenzy. People will be saying "FINALLY. NINTENDO GOT SMART," and all kind of dumbass remarks. It'll last about half a year to a year until we start seeing 720/PS4 specs and screens. Then Wii U will suddenly be roughly as powerful as a neo geo pocket color by the estimation of many on this board.
It'll be depressing to watch the hyperbole unfold. Hopefully nintendo will be able to emulate the 3DS's recent successes as well (while avoiding its early pitfalls).
