I cannot believe people still take marriage so fucking seriously these days.

Sounds like a lonely single guy to me.

If you're not going to take it seriosuly, then why bother? Should it be as mundane as signing up for a new cell phone plan?

I'm contemplating making that move in the future however I have something that is going to cause a problem for me and I know there is no compromise when it comes to this issue either you do or you don't.

I don't like jewlery I especially don't like rings. I never have I'm just not a ring kind of dude plus in the industry I work in we are discouraged from wearing rings and the like for our own safety.

That being said if I decide to get married then i have to wear a ring. This sucks to me, I suppose I could do it during public engaements and the like but as soon as I would get home I'd take it off.

Do any of you have this issue and is there any resoultion to it beside suck it up and wear a ring forever?

I am not ajewelry person, but once i got the ring I resolved to never take it off. You get used to it in about 2 days.

Figuring the average lifespan of a marriage now-a-days compared to the average lifespan of a cell phone plan it probably should. It's a shame but, I think more people see more trouble in breaking off their cell phone plan that breaking off their marriage.

just because some or many people don't take it seriously doesn't mean everyone doesn't take it seriously. I take my marriage very seriously.

as for the ring, I am not a ring guy either. hate jewelry.. so I got a plain rounded platinum band like 1/8 inch in width. did I wince at wearing a ring? yeah, but I figure it was the least I could do for her promising to be mine forever. :P

Tommie, I hear ya about the diamond business. Awful people I would never want to give my money to. Sounds like you may need to buy a ring for someone else even if you don't get one yourself. a friend of mine who feels the same way got an antique ring made before the diamond monoply started. It was a bit more, but its gorgeous and felt good knowing she didn't give their money (she actaully paid half for her ring) to a company that created a false shortage and exploit the fuck out of people.

But I feel your pain, I fucking hate jewerly. I CANNOT wear it, it makes me spazz and fidget uncontroalbly. I've broken necklaces from pulling at them, didn't even relize what I was doing it until beads were everywhere and I was like "WFT?!" If I were to get married I wouldnt wear a ring, expect a man to buy me one or make my husband wear one either. It's true what that one poster said about the .50 cent anklet bought early in the relationship meaning more. I don't understand the hang up women have over men wearing rings. Maybe it's becasue I don't like jewlery, but I think Id feel the same even if I did like it. It's not a freaking steel jock strap. (not that I advocate that ;)) If a man is gonna cheat on you, he's gonna do it ring or not.
