The trailers couldn't have been more boring.

This whole Marvel phase feels so incredibly trite.

I have no idea what they were going for in the trailers, because it looked boring and uneventful as all hell.

And I sincerely dislike the mood and tone of this movie based off the trailers as well, it was like trying to not appear to be a Marvel movie while also doesn't seem to be trying anything new other than a huge diverse cast off the get-go.

It seems like it's good but it's subjective... It isn't all action and doesn't follow the formula so.. may be one of those films where time away from the hype paints it different for everyone who didn't like it initially.

Seems to be more positive opinions than negative opinions from audiences so far. Sitting at 3.5 on Letterboxd with nearly 7000 reviews. And on IMDB, if you discredit the 1's and the 10's, it's leaning towards positive.
Box office wise it's looking like it might open higher than Black Widow. Of course we'll have to wait until weekend #2 to see if it has legs.

No it's due to the sex scene and the kiss between two guys that Disney wouldn't edit out.

The gay kiss scene was blatantly shot in a way it could easily be edited out for other markets, it's a quick cut to two guys kissing against a weirdly CGI background of a road/trees, then it just cuts back to the previous shot. Maybe they added it during reshoots.

My two cents are that the film is decent but the plot really unravels towards the end, it does its own thing most of the time which works - then the last 20-minutes they just go "oh fuck we forgot this is meant to be a phase 3 marvel film" and throw a lot of shit at the wall, both post-credit scenes are almost parody level bad.. big spoilers.. thanos' long lost brother says hello and kit harrington gets given a magical wizard swordI

it’s not sadly. The plot and its implications are way more entertaining than dark world. But dark world had the continuation of family dynamic with Thor, Loki, Odin, freya.
ETERNALS because of the terrible pacing and sloppy editing falls flat on character growth. Like there’s characters that say they love each other but we have no screen time with them interacting and growing into that believable setup. There’s just way to much exposition to unpack.

honestly I still enjoyed the celestial stuff, and the hint at the end credit scene was awesome. But unless your big into comics you will have no clue.

movie literally needed to be a 4 part mini series to fully get through that much back story.

This is one film where 2 hours is too little time wise.

Nah, it's absolutely terrible, I just watched it again a couple of days ago. There are no redeeming features for that film. Easily a 1 or 1.5 out of 5.

No easy way to say this, but this movie sucked. This - to me - was unlike Black Widow or Iron Man 3 where I mainly disliked the the dumb "twist" which then made me dislike the movie.

IMO it's the worst MCU movie thus far. Movie was all over the place and no coherence. Some poor VFX too. I think they needed about 8 hours worth of content to set it up properly and tried to jam that in a 2 hour flick.

After stewing on this, I need another viewing where I can actually see whats going on. The theater me and my friends were in had the darkest projector I've ever seen, like some scenes I could not tell wtf was going on.


There's a lot to unpack, and I think the editing, and trying to put this all into 2 hours doesnt help it. The jumping around timelines also was jarring and not fluid with how they were trying to convey the story of the eternals and their emotions throughout human history doesnt all land.

I feel a mini series or a three hour film would have helped this movie breath and pace itself better than trying to have 5 minute scenes with nothing but expoisition between two characters. Like literally in the first 15 minutes Sersei and Kit Harrington character have like a 5 minute conversation about eternals just randomly, and they just carry on that Sprite told all this to Kit and guy is unfazed?

Theres just not enough time to develop relationships where we as viewers can connect, and thats the movies main issue. The actors are acting the shit out of their scenes, and there's some heart warming stuff in there, but were not given good flow of pacing where its a gradual build up, rather than jumping around timelines then bam emotional scene?

I still liked it, because the celestial stuff is fucking cool, but caring for eternals, doesnt land at all in my opinion. WHich is why I see this being super divisive between viewers and reviewers who look at the movie in 2 different ways.

Yea, I read up on his character. I mean Mcfadden's Ikaris and Sersei are the best characters growth wise. Kingu is by far steals every scene he is in he's just having a blast. But I could not give 2 fucks about Sprite, Druig, or the deaf chick. Thena story was to me the most heart whelming, and they hardly did anything with her.

I think a mini series would have worked. Like sherlock series, hour and a half each episode, 4 Episodes. More than enough to get through eternals setup/backstory, setup the end fight with celestials.

Thats the issue with Eternals in a nut shell and why it hasn't had tons of writers take it on. Literally Kirby, and Gaimen are to me anyone who did anything with that. Kirby came up with it, and in 1970-80's was a lot of get through. Gaimen tried to do something cool with it, and still is hard to get through without being bored.

It's hard to relate and care about people who are basically gods that have no human connections. Thor works because they were not made like androids they had real childhoods and drama.

Couldn't give fuck about a masked shit tier villain. Movie itself was constructed very clearly, acting was much fucking better than eternals. Look at actress who played Sersi. The story going around is that Chapek took the editing control away from Feige/Marvel, who normally controls the editing much tighter than other studios, and gave Zhao 100% control of the editing after she won her Oscar. Not that the editing was done by the studio, actually the opposite, the studio control was taken away when that was never done before in the Iger era.

The only time Iger ever really interfered is when he said he hated the original third act of Rogue One and the result was a much better movie.

Odd for Chapek to do that. The word on him is that he is extremely cost-oriented, so why would he mess with a billion dollar formula, in the name of creative expression? Doesn't add up, but maybe he's more complicated than we thought.
