PlayStation PC game?

Come On What GIF by MOODMAN

Well Sony is publishing it on PC. But I don't think most gamers will even associate this game with PlayStation, it's just a new anime fighter. I would've preferred a new Mahvel v Capcom but I guess they are too busy supporting SF6.

Why wouldn't they associate it with PlayStation?

You didn't watch the video?

I watched the trailer. It's an Arc Sys anime tag fighter with Marvel characters. I don't think most people who play this are going to care who is publishing it.

Why not Playstation logos are all over the place for this game.

So, considering I don't know anything about fighters. Just not my thing really, why was this such a big deal during the show deserving so much screen time?
Is this like a great studio or are people really still obsessed with Marvel?

It's just like spider-man games from insomniac. 1st party game.

I don't think you understand what a 1st party game is.

Sony don't own the IP or the dev. They are the publisher, which means if marvel want to release it elsewhere they will.

Let's not pretend like we know the contract for this game, but in most cases, no, the rights holder can't simply republish a game on another platform.

Sony likely owns rights to the game, while licensing the characters and the brand and funding the development of the game. Sony's funding allows Arc to put more resources specifically towards the game.

You'll notice that Dragon Ball Fighter Z has 504 professional credits, but there's actually VERY little overlap with say Guilty Gear Strive.

Sony paying for the development means you probably have the whole studio fully funded to focus on this one game, which isn't something they've really been able to do in the past. Compare Marvel Tokon that comes out next year and Hunter X Hunter Nen Impact... That game will get at most 1 or 2 season passes, 3 if it is lucky... Arc has a decade's worth of characters to add.

Let's say it costs 250K to add a character to Marvel Tokon, 4 characters in a DLC pack for 30 dollars or individual characters added for between 5-10 dollars. That becomes a sustainable model for years even if marvel is taking a 50% cut, epic a 3.5% cut, and valve a 20% cut on revenue from steam.

But when you consider that 20% cut on PC, it's hard enough to stomach, let alone 30% on xbox or switch 2 and you're only hurting your own sales that would have gone to ps5. There is no incentive for sony to really publish it elsewhere.

I think he is right. Even with the mini documentary at the State of Play, I saw many smooth brain streamers not even realize this was a Sony game.

People think it was just another 3rd party game at the State of Play. It probably could have used its own show or should have been in a showcase with other first party games.

I think it'll become more clear over time, but that's why you have people expecting it to go to xbox and switch 2 at some point. I've seen a lot of people that do realize that think it's unfair, which is kind of the same playbook we saw with spider-man, marvel's avenger's spiderman skin, and wolverine. You didn't really get that response with say Blade and you don't get that response with Smash Bros even if it throws in iconic characters from iconic PlayStation games like Cloud Strife.

I remember way back when when Jump All Stars was exclusive to DS as well.

Unless Arc randomly drops the ball with this, we're looking at what is likely the biggest non-platformer fighting game of all time here. So I get why some people would be salty to be excluded. People were really salty about SF5.

So, it's not a first party game then and it's not a Sony IP so maybe it will come to other consoles.
I'm fairly certain it will be released on Xbox at a later date.

There's a reason Sony used the phrasing that this game is "LAUNCHING" on PS5 and PC in 2026.

The ip isnt owned by sony but they have the publishing rights for this game.

Sony owns sunset overdrive but they cant releease it without the permission from Microsoft.

Great studio, very flashy, looks cool and it's not the realistic style Marvel people have become bored of. Also it's not Capcom for the first time (for an actual legitimate fighting game). People were largely hopeful for MvC4 especially after Capcom and Marvel finally released their collection on modern consoles, so this was a huge surprise/turn.

It's like 30 years of fighting game legacy moving to entirely new devs, i can't think of another thing like this happening in gaming tbh, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

(Kind of like if Nintendo made the next Sonic game, but obviously to a lesser scale than that lol, that would be insane)

Playstation definitely considers the spider man games 1st party. They chose themselves to put in on pc. Tokon is on pc day 1 because it's a gaas game and online is very important for the longevity of the game. And like the spider-man games Sony is funding it 100%. Marvel just takes their cut for every copy sold. They are not just the publisher. If marvel want to release anywhere else Sony and Playstation would not be involved.

There's a difference between first party game and first party studio.
This is a first party game.
