MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls | Announce Trailer | Releases 2026 for PS5 & PC

Yo can we get Kratos and Sweet Tooth in this please.

The new cope they're doing on the Reset thread is fearmongering about Sony buying Arc System Works if this collab does well (which it will). The frailness of their reasons are:

1: "FGC will riot". Because a company that bought half of EVO, has been investing in EVO & FGC for years (Capcom Cup for example), and just revealed a new Marvel fighter coming to two platforms 100% of the FGC already play on Day 1....will suddenly get mad because of "reasons" 🤣

2: "Arc doesn't want to be tied down". Weren't they approached for an opportunity to do this by SIE? If they didn't want to be tied down, they could've just refused the offer.

3: "I don't have a PS5 or PC". Well buddy it's your own fault you bet on a platform of slim chances this gen as your only gaming outlet. Maybe make better choices next time.

And doubt he was referring to being a Nintendo-only gamer

It's been kinda funny waking up to see what the cope would be now that the weight of this game's existence is truly setting in.
I personally wanna see everyone call companies do well here. Being around FG's a lot, I don't think anything negative would happen if Arc System Works got bought out. I don't think it'd happen personally to be honest.

I have a big feeling there will be a play test at EVO this year.

As much as I am excited to see this game come out, the lack of Capcom fighters is a bummer. No DMC, no Spencer, no Chris, no Darkstalkers, etc....broken characters in a MvC is part of the appeal of these type of games.

Also, they better have a Wolvie in the game and a large cast of characters. Not a fan of the potential GAAS BS potential and hopefully they don't go full retard in that direction.
Excited to see more gameplay hopefully soonish. It does look like they borrowed a lot of the UMvC3 DNA and less of MvCI which is a good thing.
I could see them giving similar Capcom-style movesets to certain Marvel characters, like how we saw parallels of that in DB Fighterz. At this point it's pretty much a given that there will be at least a shoto-esque moveset for at least one hero but the question will be who.

This game gonna be crazy. The most successful fighting game of all time. Just consider how many marvel characters there are out there.

Characters we haven't seen but definitely will/should be added

Wolverine (duh)
Deadpool
Thor
Venom
Hulk (unless he's too big/slow for the hyper fast gameplay)
Daredevil
The Punisher
Black Panther
Dr. Strange (or another magic user)
Blade
One more X-men (Cyclops, Gambit or Jean Grey)

Edit: 4v4 means they need a sizeable starting roster to keep things feeling fresh early on.

Capcom lowkey shitting there pants.

Capcom CEO: "Let's put MvC Collection on sale this instant! Make it the largest discount yet!" :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_loudly_crying:

I've rewatched the trailer numerous times and now I am watching reaction videos. So cool. So far the biggest gripe people seem to have with the game is its name. Maybe they should drop the "fighting souls" part and just have it "Marvel Tokon".

I feel some doubts after Stive with ArcSys... but it looks cool AF.

I might give it a try, I have to test Gundam Iron Man.
Let's be real it'll be a dummies first tag game with wall break horse shit. It'll suck cheeks like Strive.

Still day one.

Really loving the art style. At first I was a little underwhelmed with this being the closer to the State of Play. But the more I think about it, yeah this has the potential to be big in the fighting game community. With Sony owning Evo, it makes alot of sense.

I'm not the biggest fighting game player, but I have to try this one. Gundam Iron Man looks so good! I feel they need to make the roster very large though if the 4v4 matchups are going to have a good amount of variation.

I think I'm more excited for this than I would be for a MvC game. I like the Capcom vs Snk games more than MvC games and I can't imagine Capcom doing both a new MvC and a new CvS. MvC will also always pull half the roster slots away from Marvel characters. This game nails an anime influenced flavor similar (but not identical) to what MvC had and it will allow for the roster focus to be on Marvel characters. Sony games generally don't excite me and I know this isn't exactly a 1st party title but they're fronting the bill and I respect them seeing the opportunity a game like this could be and going after it to make it happen. I'm excited and will be getting this.

I'm thinking my core four will be Cyclops, Spider-man, Mr. Fantastic (they could really have fun with this character), and Ironman. If Angel makes it in, I'll make room for him.

Oh good point about EVO; maybe not a play test, but they could show more about the game there, that feels like a 100% lock.

I personally don't see a problem with the title. Is it too long for people? It's not difficult to pronounce anything, unlike some older Japanese fighting games.

Not excited at all. Arc used to be great, but after DB Fighter Z I think they aren't as much of deep fighting game creators. This, just like DBFZ, looks like eye candy and no substance. Probably something to impulse Marvel since their films are in decline nowadays.

Where it leaves MvC is nowhere. MvCI fumbled so hard that it gave Sony the chance to swoop in.

Yeah I guess so.

I downloaded Max's mod for it [MvCI] but haven't got round to trying it out yet.

This new one could be great if Arc can innovate the gameplay effectively. The way they'll handle 4v4 is already generating good speculation.

Maybe down the road if this version does well, there can still be a Capcom crossover between the two for old times sake.

Nowadays games require way more development resources than before, which means Capcom's fighting team is too busy with Street Fighter to handle another fighter at the same time. They are also GaaS, meaning a new MvC coexisting with SF would cannibalize player time and revenue.

So even if they'd have resources, maybe wouldn't be a good idea for Capcom to make another MvsC. I assume Marvel also thought Capcom did a poor job with Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, so wanted to try something new in the fighting game area. Netherealm already had MK and Injustice, and Bandai Namco has a gazillion fighting games.

Marvel and Sony are very happy with each other, so partnered for this game. ARC System Works are very talented, but their own IPs almost don't sell. They got super successful with Dragon Ball FighterZ due to the huge popularity of the IP and sold over 10M copies as of two years ago.

Sony's publishing, funding and marketing (which includes owning EVO) will leverage ARC System Works production values and reach a bigger audience, which combined with the extra popularity of all these top Marvel IPs combined will help the game to sell even more than what they sold with DBFZ. It has potential to become the best selling fighting game ever (not counting the different SFII editions, sequels, versions, ports, collections, etc together).

Having this game and EVO, make sure Capcom will put real money on the table to move the eSports of this game. Something that will also benefit the eSports of SF, Tekken, etc. because most tournaments feature multiple games and it's important for proplayers, sponsors and viewers to have multiple important games. It's a win/win for everybody.

This means Marvel vs Capcom will sleep at least for a while, but it would be the same if this game wouldn't exist. Maybe in the future, if Capcom's staff continues growing and the fighting game userbase continues expanding we may see a new Marvel vs Capcom coexisting with this title.

Agree totally.

To my shame I've never really delved deeply into Arc fighters - never got Strive or DBZ and just dabbled on some of the older entries.

I've mostly stayed on Capcom fighters and Tekken with a dabble into Smash Bros.

But I'm entirely down with this concept and I hope it's great.

I just hope Sony let Arc do their cooking and don't try to make this a kind of entry level experience to shift units.

PS All stars just seemed like a missed opportunity to create something great because they tried to break the mould too hard and watered down the complexity.

Anyway, at the moment it looks great and I'm enjoying the speculation of the mechanics for it.

I'm not really that into fighters - I always buy the latest Tekken, but that's mostly due to nostalgia. And Marvel... I love the characters, but we all know what MCU is these days.

But, this looks dope as fuck. Day one. Although I doubt they'll introduce my favourite character, Nightcrawler (yes I know, I was a weird kid, now I'm a weird adult). He'd be both underpowered and also completely OP with the teleporting ability.

The roster on this will probably start out at a minimum of 18 characters and it'll adopt a live service fighting game model and introduce new characters and the roster will swell to probably the largest marvel roster in a fighting game ever. We're talking about years of support in this.

Then there's the potential for crossover content like with Shonen Jump or specifically My Hero Academia.

It's a BFD.

What an odd Playstation Studios title, looks good but unexpected.

Yeah, I still don't see Nightcrawler happening. I'd be extremely pleased to be proven wrong though.

Love the art style. Unfortunately its a fighting game

It has nothing to do with Capcom

How are Sony and Arc System Works able to do a Marvel Vs. game using basically the exact same format as Capcom's Marvel Vs Capcom series? Surely there would be sometype of infringement/legalities that this production has crossed.

Other than general pessimism what are you basing that on?

One of the biggest benefits of this not being Marvel vs Capcom is that this will be a game that focusing roster spots on Marvel characters.

Sony has the X-Men license until 2035... I'm sure this game is going to be feature rich with X-Men characters through the years.

Someone mentioned that this has potential to be the biggest fighting game ever and they're absolutely right. Maybe with the exception of Smash Bros, but I wouldn't be surprised if this did between 15-20 million units. They're going to have a field day with MTX.

I mean, general pessimism I can get behind. But just as a character. He is not that powerful. Mostly what he has going on is teleporting. And given those constraints, it would be very difficult to make him into a character in a fighting game. But as said, I'll be glad to be proven wrong.

Honestly, it's long overdue. Sony has been dancing around the fighting game genre for years. It was obvious they didn't want to compete with partners like Namco and Capcom, but they were in there during the early days involved in publishing games like Battle Arena Toshinden on PS1.

A lot of things have changed in the fighting game arena and fighting games have had a major resurgence.

The reason why this game is likely to work is because it takes so many of what PlayStation Studios does well and brings it to the forefront.

Their relationship with Marvel, their long standing relationship with ArcSy, EVO... All culminating even in their design of a fight stick, again no longer afraid of competing against partners. It's a potential big step for Sony who has shyed away especially in recent years of stepping on toes. I feel like we haven't really seen something like this since they put of Legend of Dragoon which was seen as a shot at competing with Final Fantasy.

Would love this as a 1v1 game. Dont like team based fighting games

I mean you can play it focusing on 1 character...

What exactly do you think Capcom has patented here? It's just a 2d fighter with Marvel characters. How is this different in your mind than Injustice?

Looks so badass. How difficult will this be to enjoy for someone who hasn't played a fighting game since KI and Soul Calibre in the 90s? Does Arc Systems make cool single player story modes?

Did you watch X-Men 97?

That is most certainly not a viable way of playing multiplayer. and the single player i couldn't care less about

I don't know that that's true. I assume you can simply use your assists and get a longer health bar by not tagging out.

I didn't. Thanks for the reminder though, I've heard good things.

They showed a lot of what he is capable of in that show. I think he has a lot of unique value in a fighting game.

Is this a way Sony is making to acquire Arc Systems ??

It's certainly a high possibility.

I'd put them number one on Sony's list at the moment. The positive reception the game has received should cement any doubt. A purchase of Arc System Works could start a new era of "Japan Studios".

If Sony bought out the rest of Kadokawa, bought ArcSys, and Level 5, it would turn the Japanese branch into something that rivals the European and US studios and would give us another powerhouse company in Japan outside of what we generally get from Nintendo, Konami, Namco Bandai, Square Enix, Capcom, and Koei Tecmo.

Regarding easy/entry level controls, they already mentioned that you'll be able to choose between an easy type and a classic (with inputs) type.

I mean... does Chris Claremont say anything to you? I am certainly aware he's a very unique character, from the original comics, way back. Just not sure how he'd work in a fighting game. But again, I'll be glad to be proven wrong, and thanks for the TV tip. Will binge later on today.

I doubt they'll go after any of the ones you mentioned.

Arc Systems is possible since they want to increase their involvement (even more) in the fighting scene.

They've already purchased 10% of Kadokawa and 14% of FromSoftware. As a 10% owner of Kadokawa, this essentially raises their stake in FromSoftware to 21%.

Sony could become majority shareholder in Kadokawa for less than 1.5 billion dollars. So not sure why you'd doubt that as a possibility. Becoming majority shareholder would also make Sony the majority shareholder of FromSoftware as well as the other subsidiaries I mentioned within Kadokawa.

You could have doubts about Level-5, but Kadokawa and Arc Systems are both pretty likely right now.
