You really think Arthur/Storm/Sent is going to be a popular team? Storm/Sent sure, but arthur?

It's a forgone conclusion for every single game at this point. Can't think of any off the top of my head that hasn't had a harsh backlash after the initial hype starts wearing off.
true, it's inevitable. internet hate machine keeps rolling!

Other than Sanford I dont think we have heard opinions from any of the huge players on EC yet. At least they havent been broadcast.
I'll just take that to mean their to busy having fun playing the game then!

Or just don't have twitter accounts.

Don't do this bullshit. The complaints about the game have been legitimate for the most part.

Yeah forgot about Ami, but going by recent videos and streams more people are starting to talk up Arthur.
Yeah, it's Arthur that people are referring to in A/S/S.

Sent's not even going to be that good in the long run once people get a better grasp of the game, I don't even plan on having him on my team after shuma is out :P *he's to fucking big*

Well from what we've seen Arthur can spam like no other. It's super early though.

"Do you guys remember SFIV? The first month Rufus was low tier. lol"

No, no he wasn't.

"Well from what we've seen Arthur can spam like no other. It's super early though."

That doesn't mean he's going to be popular online.

Stop being so sensitive. Its a valid criticism.

Sentinel has been relegated to a back up point man now because of this. It's like first 2 characters play and then Sentinel come in LAST to finish the fight with X Factor.

It has it's risks and benefits. For one if the other 2 characters get snuffed without the opposition using their X Factor, they can basically coax Sentinel into a combo and then take him out in one combo using X Factor plus hyper meters.

And sometimes it's better to use X Factor early. Like in team ASS, if someone just used their X Factor early to take out Arthur it would cripple the team as the keep away game falls apart.

X Factor being a part of team dynamics is to be expected but people are basically abusing X Factor on Sentinel and on Storm's Hail.
And then you're forced to sit down in front of a lvl 3 xf sent or storm and you can't stop the chip because your own x-factor is gone.

Too much is revolving around a single mechanic. We're not talking matchups anymore, we're talking about how you deal with the inevital boss mode, blue shell, etc

The solution to this is play with friends and not people who are competitive?

Fuck, what a crazy world we live in when the well thought out teams win over the random ones.

It's less about people worrying about "well thought out teams" and more about those "well thought out teams" coming down to to 3 out of 5 characters out of 30-something.

Papercuts said:
And the use of this dumb mechanic is the deciding factor of the matches, that's the problem.
Not really THE deciding factor, you still have to play well. Just because you use your X Factor on your last character doesn't guarantee you a win. It's a strategic element of the game, how you use it depends on you and your team build.
"I really dislike the idea of, I must play X character to be viable against Y team which will be the only team played online (or with slight variations)."
That's not what I am saying. You should have some logic into your team construction so that it covers all basis. Have a character who is good at closing in the distance, another character at keeping away and protecting your point and a good assist or two in between. You want to deal with the maximum possible amount of teams possible. How you make this team is up to you.

Meaning picking Akuma and Ryu on the same team isn't the best idea.

I know. I was more or less trolling.

I will always remember this day. The day that Dat ASS fizzled the 100+ page hype for Marvel vs Capcom 3 on NeoGAF. It seems that we do not like big butts and we do not lie.

Rank is ranked
Player match is ranked without the rank. (you can't invite a specific friend from what I can tell, stupid because it's the only mode with the rematch option)
Lobby is where you join a lobby up to 8 and can set private spots for friends (no rematch option)
Fuckin japan, *laughy face*

What a crazy world we live in when you can pick 3 (maybe) broken characters together and dominate almost every other team by spamming the same moves.

I picked Hakan at the start of Super and dominate 90% of Live with fundamentals along a few gimmicks, Josh is a significantly better player than me so I can't see it meaning shit in the long run. It doesn't change the fact that he was beat by a Hulk/She-Hulk team who I'd imagine have pretty weak mobility, so I don't see why you're worried about A.S.S making the majority of teams free.

Arthur being able to throw projectiles over and over isn't broken. It means he's a zoner. His job is to keep you out.

Up close he gets destroyed. Again it's Day -whatever. That shit will get figured out.

X-Factor on the other hand has already been figured out. Capcom focus grouped their fighting games, found out people love come backs, and so put an artificial hype mechanic in the game. Hey, maybe I'm wrong though, whatevs.

I wonder where the hell did i read that.

But what im trying to say its too early to know if its broken.

ppl gonna bitch, but the game is crack. simple as that.

As of right now, playing well throughout the majority of the match isn't that much more important than a well timed lvl 3 xfactor... thats a pretty big deal.

Tiers and team strats will work themselves out over time. I'm not worried about Sent all that much. Cap could be S-tier 10 years from now. X factor, left as is, will still have an absurd amount of weight though.

He didn't pick Rufus because he thought he was low tier. I remember one of his old tier lists, he had vanilla bison on the top and rufus second.

And that's all I need to know. Main reason I'm hyped for Marvel in the first place is the crazy fighting game nights that will be had with my friends. Beer, food, and Marvel. Hell yeah.

Their 1 day opinion is pretty funny though. People said BB sucked all the time, people have opinions I played it anyways personally I think it shits all over sf4.
Although GG is better :P

People still say BB is complete and utter ass. :] Easily the game that will get shit on the most at EVO2K11,even worse than the new MK no matter how good or bad it is...

I know that GAF has lots of high level players who might care more, but I'm not sure why so may folks worry about the high level competitive feedback on this game. I play lots of multiplayer video games and board games and the difference in community between the two is really quite striking with regards to competition.

With board games they are often quite upfront about acknowledging what factor luck plays in the outcome of certain games. Games will often straight up list "luck factor" in reviews where something like chess is a 0% luck factor, war (the card game) is 100% luck and other games (Settlers and whatnot) fill in the space between 0 and 100. Players learn to figure out what level of "luck" they like in their games, in particular may enjoy games with a little bit of luck involved so that they can play and new players can still have a chance at winning and so that pros still have to stay on their toes for all matches.

However with fighting games even low level player seem to want to claim that their games are all 100% skill, never "cheap" (however they define that) and perfectly balanced. Seriously, there is nothing wrong with liking a game where a midlevel player (via a nifty L3 X-Factor or something) can occasionally knock off an expert player. And even with the pros this shouldn't be a big deal, sure any single match can be swung, but if you increase the number of matches in a round (say FT5 or something) the better players with the better execution and tactics will still win out.

Best way to fix x factor if it has to stay is make it 10/15/20 and make them all equal to level 1 in strength. It should give you a slight advantage not change the entire dynamic of the match. Looking at streams 80% of the time someone activates level 3 the opponent just runs away and blocks because it is too ridiculous to deal with.

Well a lot of top players hated SF4 when it was out and it was magus1234 and myself grinding it out at the arcade testing stuff out and just having fun. I dont like SF4 much anymore, esp after playing Marvel, but you have to take these reactions with a grain of salt. You're talking about some of the most critical people in the scene, of course they wont like it right off the bat.

Xfactor sent at first was a punch to the gut and deflating for sure, but a few days later things were found and he wasn't as bad. Honestly I havent seen anyone really playing on the level that I've seen personally anyway so Im curious what people will think a month from now.

There's issues with the game... But the game is crack. Top players will play even if they think the game sucks --most people thought SFIV sucked, but still played. And why will they play? To take your money :)

Daigo dislike towards SFIV didnt stop him from taking a lot of money.

"Wasn't one of the reasons JWong claimed he picked Rufus up 'cause people thought he was low tier? I remember him saying something to that effect in a video."

The only vid I recall seeing of Jwong explaining why he picked Rufus was him saying he thought he was a very "exciting" rush down character for spectators.

I remember impressions coming in from people playing the game in Japan week 1 and when people first read about EX Messiah owning everything and his ultra being so easy to hitconfirm into, SRK was flipping the fuck out. Nobody paid Rufus any attention during the location tests because he was an unappealing character and I recall people (jokingly) saying Rufus was broken because nobody played him during the loke test and reported it to Capcom.

Daigo hates 3rd strike,Ricky hates 3rd strike,Wong shit all over CvS2,etc.

These guys are pros at this genre, but they all have their own personal taste as well.Doesn't mean they won't play Marvel vs Capcom 3 unless it's a complete clusterfuck of a game.
