I've never played a MVC before so I've been missing out on a lot, but this game is awesome. I'm getting a feel for the combos in mission mode, but the crossover assist is giving me problems. Anyone know what the timing for this is supposed to be?

Anyone got a link to that tournament of J Wong? I need to see this shit in action. I was aware of Wolverine's untapped potential for quite some time but pairing him with Akuma is almost genius level stuff here.

Haggar assist and pipe god tier? I needed this stream in my body YESTERDAY!
The hilarious thing about it was the fact that player match on LIVE was flooded with that team within 15 minutes after I read about it on GAF.

Do you mean when switching out during air combos? I think you have to just get a few hits in for it to register as an air combo, then just press a direction and S for the change. For some reason I kept trying to press the assist buttons instead of S.

Also having fun with "Team Bulletstorm" Dante, Deadpool, and Chris.

lol, can't Ryu DP, XFactor, Shinkuu Hadoken?
Yup.

But its the habits ie: crouching forward + Hadoken.
SSFIV Circle + Hadoken
MvC3: Triangle + Hadoken

Need some weeks of practice.

Any screenshots of the Wolverine forum on SRK?

When Daigo switched to Guile in the pre-release SSFIV exhibition, the Guile thread went from like 6 current viewers to 400 current viewers.

I'm doing Iron Man's mission #7. It's : crouching L, M, standing H, then partner 2. WTF? partner 2 comes out too late. Maybe there's some trick I'm missing.

You have to do call partner earlier in anticipation of it hitting between the standing H and the next move.

I still havent found a comfortable control setup. I got it:
L M P1
H S P2

What is everyone using?

M H S
L P1 P2

I suck with everyone apart from Dante and Viper.. :'(

Recommendations on who to start out with for someone who sucks at fighting games? :p

At the moment my team is:
Dante
Viper
Random / Thinking of Hulk

Most of my combos start and end on the ground, I need to learn to take them to the air!

Sent and hulk both have an otg move. Just saying it would be a nice addition. Haggar and dat pipe were wrecking last night. Hopefully level up stream gets posted so we can see Floe wielding the pipe.
I know Hulk and Sent have an OTG, but I thought you were saying that Haggar with one would make him overpowered or something. I was wondering since Sent and Hulk have one, how would Haggar having an OTG make him OP? But I see what you meant now, and I guess not giving him one is a strategic omission, same with Spidey not having one.

Didn't get to play it much last night but impressions so far.

Ryu sucks
Chris seems low tier for now
Zero has some nice range and can combo pretty easily

Went with Beta?

L M H
S P1 P2

WOW!

Magneto, Wesker, Sentinel combo is SOOO fucking good.

SUPER easy 600k damage with ZERO super bars required...

L, M, H, S, L, M, H, S, Assist1, S, L, M, H, S, Assist2, S, L, M, H, S

So SheHulk/----------/Phoenix

Last night try-outs Trish made a good case for my mid-spot, she's not the best on the inside but can handle her self there. Great keep away.

Ammy's short range launcher annoys me alot, tired of whiffin it mid combo, and her other stances are too specialized, she though to use. But her Cold assist is amazing for She Hulk, and Ammy kinda owns 50Sent at least in my short experience.

Viper's viscous on the inside, but she needs to get there first and man she has a hard time, she needs to proper assist.

Still in the lab with the ghost chick, i need to work on my mobility with her.

Well shut my mouth and call me a bitch! Who are you messing with so far, compadre?

For right now, I'm running Spidey/Magneto/X-23.

Spidey gets a fast assist in EM Disruptor, and an OTG for resets/extender as well as easy unblockable setup thanks to web zip and ankle slicer. It's easy to land hits with him because he can alter his patterns in so many ways, and he can run like an MFer. Really versatile character.

Magneto gets a slow moving FB, Spidey is far enough back that he's out of harms way usually. Web ball assist also takes out 2 of the 3 sent drone assist iirc, which are annoying as hell. Ankle slicer is nice to have for Mags too with that fly xx S, making it damn near impossible to block under pressure. EM disruptor is a pretty solid projectile. Plus, his level 3 is ridiculous. Mags is so good all around.

X-23 is just plain badass rushdown and mixup. Two diff speed projectile assists, and once I get better with her, I'm going to start mixing up which I call during feint block/hit strings for big damage. Won't be as good as Doom rocks or hidden missile, but I think it'll be enough once I'm better at this damn game. And her level 3 is cheap as hell :D She's an absolute monster - I can tell even though I'm still pretty ass at the game.

Once my execution is up I'll be golden. Knowledge of what works will come with that. Being creative with gimmicky setups and junk like that is my forte :p And I'll learn to block stuff somewhere in there.

Gonna get Spidey up to speed first, then X-23 and then Mags. Feel like bootleg Mags will be easiest to run lol.

It may be incremental but I see myself getting better than i was the day before every time I play. Gonna pick up the guide soon I think but every store around me is sold out :/

And +1 to Haggar pipe being awesome. Got cranked by that damn thing, lost so much life. Likewise for Lariat and Lariat assist. Learned a good lesson in avoiding it unless i want to be gut-punched, repeatedly.

oh and LOL at the Mission command list.

Gonna do some missions and then : TO THE LAB.

-.-
First match online and a guy rage quit. I was owning him and then decided to bust phoenix out and let him activate Dark Phoenix then he quit just as I KO'd him :(
GT was Dark Oversol.

Does anyone in this thread have broad shoulders? I do and I have a problem doing shoryuken motions when I am facing right. My arms are already so far bent in that I have a problem slamming into the corner for the final direction of the motion.

I will probably need to spend a few days just attempting these motions in training just so I can always get them out. My last resort would be a custom or a premade with the buttons and stick further out.

I have a VSHG on the ps3 and a TE(1st gen) stick on the 360.

This has been a problem I have had for quite some time.

Why are you using your upper arm?

Hmm sounds interesting, I'll try some Spidey.

Those sticks build the lever close the the buttons according to Japanese arcade spec (Well, the Madcatz layout is actually custom, but still similar enough to a Vewlix control panel layout). I have seen some folks just build their own custom sticks with the lever set farther apart from the buttons to accommodate them better.

I too sometimes have this problem, but...

Shoryukens are still tough no matter the shoulder type, but if you deliberately do the motion then it will come out. Overshooting has produced frustrating results at best.

Good luck.

The angles my arms are at make it harder to use my lower arm correctly. If the arm is really far bent in how do you get the lower right position easily

I probably just need to figure out workaround. Its hard to explain and probably more a lazy execution issue than anything.

Why the fuck is the start up on Magnetos super so fucking slow and why doesn't it it OTG?

God damn Mag, you so bad ass but sometimes I just want to completely replace you.

Are you new to stick? Sounds like you need more time training on it. I'd surprised if your shoulders were much broader than mine. The trick to using stick is to finesse it with the fingers and wrist. The more shoulder involved, the less accurate your inputs will be.

Yeah i have been working on my grip. I think my grip is just not right(more fingers and less foream arm motion is needed). I started using a stick when SC4 came out but I got serious about it when vanilla SF4 came out.

Its less of a problem in sf4 because the pace of the game is slower but versus games are a different beast.

i just noticed in stats there is a cheap wins stat what qualifies as a cheap win for that stat?
I wanna say that it's winning the game based on health by not attacking at all in the last couple of seconds, but that's just a wild guess.

I'm actually playing pretty well with the d-pad ever since I switched, it's weird. analog still feels better for QCFs and SRKs but the d-pad is so much better for movement.

Capcom's tracking link shows my order as still residing in Indiana while Just going to USPS tracking page directly and inputting my tracking number shows that it arrived at my post office this morning. Of course it would show up the day I have to go back to work.

So for those seeing no sign of movement on Capcom's tracking link go manual. May get better results than just in transit from Indiana.

I use 'Gief in SF4, and I can do a standing 360 every time and stuff. But playing this game is so different. I have to be so much FASTER and more accurate with my inputs.

To all the scrubs... its a SLOW process, but it does work, I feel myself getting faster and better and more accurate every day. It's really intense. I've had it for a while now, and I'm in training mode, just working on combo execution for at least an hour a day if not longer.

What helps me is if I'm sitting in a chair rather the floor. Less shoulder movement and more hand/wrist moments.

The more I play this game, the more I think Seth's comments about this game being an amazing sandbox are spot-on. MvC3 scratches an itch because it's so damn fun just to screw around and see what can be done.

Lucky you, I waited until SSF4 :/

It's been painful, but the last thing it seems I need to nip in the bud is DBL QCF facing right. I finally learned how to input the motion using my fingers and wrist after an unhealthy amount of focusing on it, but when not thinking about it in a match I still tend execute with the forearm and wrist, and more often than not, botch it completely.

I'm sure it'll come to me soon, but not being able to do an Ultra motion consistently facing one direction with Viper is not a good look.

Yup. These games have been sorely lacking this generation outside the general sandbox genre. Largely due to these corporations wanting to keep things simple in an effort to reach a broader audience with their multiplayer games, it seems. Hopefully this game starts a trend in the fighting genre at least.

Mine still says indiana. fail. Stuck on ps3 for now.

Those of you with kids, definitely put this game in front of them if they know the characters at all. My boys were having a super blast last night as we all kept making various teams and screwed around with everyone.

Deadpool is obviously the biggest winner because he's just too cool, funny and entertaining.

My kids were big fans of MvC2 even though they did a lot of mashing. Same reason. Flashy, fun, exciting and most of all, funny!

I hope Capcom always keeps that in mind with this series. It's the same reason we all loved Tatsunoko vs. Capcom last year.

I've tried that and it still doesn't work.
Just keep trying at different times. I remember having to call an assist for one of my Tron missions and I always needed to call it out as soon as I began taking the rock out of the ground in order to hit. Took me a long time.

Question to those who have the guide: Does it teach good combos for all characters? That's what I'm really lacking, my rushdown is good but when I hit connect I never punish enough.

DRE Fei said:

I read a post from someone on here suggesting you have to call the assist at the same time as the previous attack input so you're basically pressing assist and attack at the same time although I haven't tried it myself yet because i'm still trying to learn individual combo's at the moment.

Do octo gates make it easier than square ones? Or is it just a matter of me learning not to ride the gate as much?

You can go with either or. It's all a matter of preference. Just gotta learn them.

I've been messing around with Iron Man but I've got no idea how to play him. I'm trying to make him my projectile dude.

Any vids of some good Tony Starks play?

No matter how hard I try I can't play using the B button layout on my fightstick, I always end up switching back to:

L M P1
H S P2

Feels easier to chain this way =/

Was thinking about the costume dlc and having 6 costumes. It could mean 6 packs for 36 characters or 9 for 54 (that being the next multiple of 6 that 2 reaches). Dying to see what other dlc they got lined up (stages, music remixes maybe?).

Alucrid said:

Many people claim that octogates are good "training wheels" for learning Jp sticks and then they move to square... but if you simply train yourself to not ride the gate ou can skip the octo. I recommend sticking with square since it is stock and has some advantages over octo.
