Hey SRK,
Krisan Thyme and I are back again to give you guys an idea what's on the disc pertaining to Shuma-Gorath. Krisan Thyme, using the same techniques as he did previously to get Jill Valentine working, replaced M.O.D.O.K. with Shuma-Gorath. You can see this in the images we'll link further on. He's basically the Shuma-Gorath we all know and love. He plays very similar to before but with some new tools to fit in with the MvC 3 roster. All his resources on the disc such as model, animation, textures, and audio are all present. He is essentially a complete character. Krisan is letting me deal with the write-up this time.
Before I link you guys to the images showing him being playable, we would like to make sure the facts and speculations about the stuff on MvC 3 disc are made clear.
FACTS
- Jill is an incomplete character that is only really missing a big handful of audio samples such as the tag-in voices and hopefully what we assume is some character balance. Also a good portion of her system data is actually missing.
- Shuma-Gorath is essentially complete and is 100% playable and all his resources are on the disc. Mission data is complete and accounted for on the disc but at the time we did not access it.
- Aside from the final roster and Jill and Shuma-Gorath, NO OTHER CHARACTERS OR CHARACTER RESOURCES EXIST ON THE DISC. There are references of Frank West and Dr. Octopus found in the boot executable but NONE OF THEIR MODELS, ANIMATIONS, TEXTURES, SOUNDS, ARTWORK EXIST ON THE DISC. NONE. ALL GONE. We know Frank West has been said to be canned many times. As for Dr. Octopus, we will come back to that in a bit.
- DLC Outfits exist on the disc for the following: Ryu, Akuma, Chris, Wesker, Dante, Captain America, Iron-Man, Thor, Dr. Doom, and Dormammu. The characters Capcom have shown so far in the launch trailer have their DLC Outfits completely on the disc. The other characters mentioned that have DLC Outfits that have not been shown are INCOMPLETE and unusable. The way the complete DLC outfits are packed make it tricky to access in a reasonable time so we will leave these alone.
- The entire roster is numbered from 01-41 all over the disc. 01-20 refer to Capcom characters and 21-41 refer to Marvel characters. Frank West is 09, Jill Valentine is 20, Shuma-Gorath is 32, Doctor Octopus is 40, and Galactus is 41. Again Frank West and Doctor Octopus have their resources completely stripped from the disc so it is impossible for us to make them playable. Why is that important? Well that leads to some unconfirmed speculation. Considering everything that has been talked about so far by Capcom and what we've seen on the disc, there is reason to believe that Frank West and Shuma-Gorath were intended to make the final cut of the roster and Jill Valentine and Doctor Octopus were on the drawing board late in development. Why do we think this is a possibility? Here's our reasoning. The following is just our speculation and should not be regarded as truth in the slightest.
SPECULATION
Frank West and Shuma-Gorath's numbers are right in the middle of their respective sides while Jill Valentine and Doctor Octopus are the last numbered on each of their sides. We've been told by Capcom that Frank West was canned at the last minute due to technical reasons. Shuma-Gorath was a Marvel character pushed by Capcom while Marvel was reluctant so he may have been pushed to the sidelines even after he was completed and was only mutually agreed upon to be included the last minute if he was paired up with a Capcom counterpart. It is possible Jill was taken from being a post-release character and was pushed to be part of the final roster with Shuma but time constraints did not allow for it so Shuma and Jill are now DLC. This would explain why Shuma-Gorath is complete while Jill is not. This leaves Doctor Octopus as the last man standing without a Capcom counterpart. He was either a totally scrapped idea or possibly currently a work in progress for future DLC. We just don't have enough information on Doctor Octopus to make any assumptions. All we can say with certainty is that he was part of the entire development process at one point and that none of his game resources are available on the disc.
We know that this might have been a bother to some but we are just curious gamers looking for some answers. We won't show any video of Jill or Shuma as we'll leave that for Capcom to do when they want to formally reveal them.
As for now, Krisan is done digging through the disc. To get this information and share it with the rest of you, we've had to use some questionable means. With nothing much else left on the disc for us to look at and test, we have decided to move on from playing around with the disc's contents on jailbroken systems to playing the game online with the rest of the world because we value that much more. From what we have seen hidden away on the disc, we support Capcom's hard work and we hope you all partake in getting the DLC characters. They're great characters that add more to an already uniquely diverse roster and we look forward to future characters to come. We'll be buying and so should you.
Finally the Shuma images I took can be found here:

It was fun using Jill and Shuma-Gorath for the time being but we're going to give them up for now. We'll see you guys online!
