Ameterasu... how the eff do you beat his friggen normal attack lol! it soooo effin fast and its hard to reverse

As an Ammy player myself, there are two ways I constantly get stuffed - Pushblock followed by a quick punish, and jumping attacks. The timing's pretty hard to land a jumping attack on Ammy because of her small hitbox, but pushblock is almost guaranteed on most Amarterasu players since her disk combos are very mashy.

GGs to Gibration, you could probably tell that I've never used Wesker in training mode :P

Iron Man is so fast, yo. I don't think I went for a low once that whole set of 10 games, and that's all I ever practiced with him ;_;

My Trish is amazing. Even if I go for her launcher a lot and get torn up. Basically any time Trish died I got rolled on hard. All I know how to do without her is triangle jump and go for longshot assist punishes.

If I'm push-blocked as Amaterasu against another rushdown player when in disc mode, I often put out one of the non-projectile reflectors hoping to catch them off-guard and flip the momentum.

Wouldn't advise dashing into an attack after pushblocking as it would leave you open. If you have hyper meter or a character with a quick beam or dashing attack, that would be good.

Also, the jumping in is probably a problem. Try neutral jumping. It works like a charm and a lot of characters air S attacks combo into their L if done late enough. Ammy's forward+H attack moves her forward pretty significantly and is usually used in most combo strings she does, so you can catch them pretty frequently

Been playing a lot of player matches and stuff, works perfectly, no perceptible lag and I can pull off my combos no problem (or I can the few times when my nerves don't get the better of me and I mash and fail). I have no problem with the net code personally, but in a country as big as the US it's bound to be a lot worse.

Okay so I'm going to totally noob up the joint here but I have a question.

How do I do team air combos reliably?

Every time I launch an opponent I do a L and M attack and try and do the input for the air team combo but end up with the opponent flying to the ground instead.

Thanks in advance :D

Directional + S. N.S sends them to the ground.

GGs to you and seph. Yea you got a really good Trish. And her super, goddamn! Its like I can't do anything once she throws her sword out but take the chip damage.

Is there any way to invite a friend to an online game and set the timer to infinite? In MvC2 there was an option for infinite time when creating a lobby, but I don't see it anywhere in MvC3.

I know someone invited me to the PSN Marvel 3 chat but I keep forgetting to join it.

Hopefully I'll remember and play some of you later on.

Oh Dr. Doom is pretty awesome... mhmhmh
What do you guys think of my team Haggar,Ryu and Dr. Doom?

I'd swap Ryu for Akuma, but that's just my love of his kick to pressure them into the corner for Doom. Try it out see if it's better for you. If not it seems fine.

so mulling over my head why i've been so bad lately, i think i've come to a conclusion: I don't press enough buttons.

From DeeJay having damn near everything unsafe in SSF4 to Karas having almost pheonix-like health in TvC, i've been scared to do anything that can be punished. Thus, I wind up not really doing much besides blocking. I am going to work on that.

This is not a game for turtle tactics. The MVC series is heavily based around the chip factor. You see they saw a game based on 3vs3 teams on a 99 second timer as slightly damage problematic. If people blocked a lot then the game would be based on time out victories and no one really feels proud of losing a fight they were still in. So they had to come up with a way to force people to keep swinging at each other and to eliminate the heavy blocking gameplay found in other titles. Thus the insanely high chip damage became a permanent part of the blocking in this series.

It ended up being one of the greatest decisions they ever made because it forced a panic factor into a lot of matches and made this game even more frantic for gamers than it already was with it's crazy high combo amounts, large scale damaging moves, and assist tactics. This game is for extreme offense, and even defensive players in this series use attacks to keep people away more than blocks. That and flight.

If you're a turtle you should try one of two things to reach comfort in this series. You should either go for high health characters with range like Sentinel, or Hulk and Haggar once you learn his pipe uses and how to whiff into rolls or learn who is your favorite procectile spammer. Lots of projectiles=the basis of most defensive game styles in MVC3.

Deadpool
has lots of guns, and his other specials either knock enemies across the screen or make him jump back...that and he teleports. He's good at this, but his damage is low. The plus side to him is he can move quick and is button mash combo friendly since he has one of the few multiple hit chains off of 5 consecutive L attacks.

Thor
is tricky to learn to use and time for beginners but he has the health, the attacks, the grabs and a mean mighty spark damage (even on chip). He can fly too, but remember he's usually and advanced character. Try him out though because some people like you just immediately take to him and can use him quickly. The best projectile based characters though have to be MODOK, Arthur, Phoenix, and Viewtiful Joe.

Phoenix
is actually better for cross ups and beast tier offense but her health is probably a factor if your too new at this game and wouldn't be quick on adapting for varying opponent moves. She just has the ability to fill the screen with slow orbs and homing attacks and lots of fireballs that come at odd angles though so she is worth mentioning as a keep away even if her other offense overshadows this. She's just so god tier at all offense that she makes it onto any list and to balance her they destroyed her health. Your call on whether to try her or not. It doesn't take much to build walls or offense with her but it also doesn't take much for new players to make a single mistake to lose her even with dark phoenix boosting her at lvl 5

MODOK
is a beast with literal shields, traps, flight, and not only projectiles and beams but projectiles that gain power over time. His flight is also a MAJOR part of his style for staying maddeningly out of reach.

Arthur's
slow jump allows for a full screen of knifes to be created as he stays in the air longer to throw them, and he has some good lance dashes to push people out if they get inside. Probably the best rounded projectile oriented character in the game.

Finally, Viewtiful Joe is able to voomerang you quickly so it's hard to dash through his game. Especially since his jump is slow enough to stack similarly to Arthur (though not as many voomerangs can be placed as knives and lances). He also has a homing voomerang that fire stuns and all his projectiles get good push to force you back off him. The main key to this with Joe is he is very anti air. You are luring your opponents into jumping with him because Joe has an instant (or near instant) uppercut that destroys jump ins. It may lose priority to certain moves but it eats triangle jumps, ziplines, and web dashes along with most moves alive. Plus Joe can mash buttons in the air to keep throwing attacks to slow his descent like in his own game. He's very noob friendly for defensive players trying to learn the projectile based keep away defense used in this series.

There you go. This should get you off and rolling. Also when your more advanced at flight and cornering people try out Magneto and to a lesser extent Doom ( both are better at rushdown but can keep away).

@shaowebb : Im picking Ryu over Akuma just for the 'mule kick'. :3

Haggar,Ryu and Dr. Doom or Haggar,Ryu and Skrull.

thanks for the advice shaowebb :)

I do know what i'm doing though, i'm not a turtle, and doom is one of my mains :P

Awesome! I figured I'd play it safe and break it down in case you were new though. No offense meant, but a lot of gamers are entering this series new to the style.

So who are you rolling with Doom?

His cornering game is nasty and deals mad punishment plus he abuses jumpers greatly too. Are you using projectile or rushdown assist types to keep them pinned down with him? I tend to Haggar "lead Pipe" assist when I corner people to set for the aerial counters.

Dear X-Factor Hulk,

FUCK YOU!!!

Yup. I've been trying to set up a new team outside of my Spencer/Haggar/Sentinel team of Deadpool/Hulk/Wolverine because Deadpool's keep away baits them into a gamma charge and if they jump I use drill claw. Lots of power health from hulk to keep me in against heavy chip and god-tier rushdown and instant overhead from wolvie from this team.

I really like Spencer, but it seems like against any decent opponent he'd suck because basically his entire moveset is contingent on the other person not blocking.

doom is my anchor, i put spencer on point and skrull second.

i usually just use him for his assist, and when he is out regular ol' trijump pressure, into the buktooth (when i can hit it that is)

This stream with the #2 player on live is hilarious. This guy is so bad but he just keeps winning.

Is he still laming people to death? I mean seriously, NEUTRALIZE being a regular button press is one of the top three troll tier game design decisions I've seen in forever. :lol

At the same time, people need to learn that teleports are Cap's Shield tier.

I kind of wish in the 3D model viewer you had the choice to perform attacks, taunts, hypers etc.

I'm very surprised it's just the character model in neutral position. Pretty lame :(

Forward H is not a frontal attack. It's as deadly as the pipe because it hits for overhead damage and goes through blocks. Plus it is the strongest nonspecial move in the game if I remember correctly. If they block and you want to do even more damage use Jawbreaker to grab them.

Have fun making them think their lag is killing their blocks now on your frontal attack that deals from an overhead angle. So many people yell " I WAS BLOCKING WTF!" everytime I do this into my combo sets. LOL

Ya, Sent spam with hidden missiles. If he has to swap out, its to Wesker so he can fish for maximum Wesker punishes.

I use Spiderman/Deadpool/Hulk as my primary team, the Hulk is just beastly if you can use him correctly, and his Gamma Wave assist is great when you're swinging through the air as Spidey.

I'm currently trying to learn a new team of Chun-Li/Dante/Chris, and it's coming along well, except for the crazy movements for Chris's (blood) moves. Still can't get the hang of his grenades :D

Random question, but just going for a regular old match doesn't seem to work, I need to go to a lobby.. WTF?? keeps saying lost connection (360) Lobby work but the wait is annoying.. anyone else getting this, tried player match and ranked match region is set to any..

not trolling but I also player TvC for old times sake and wellTvC seem's to have quicker match making ATM seriously played a few rounds of it and got a few matches in had to wait about a maximum of 3 mins to find someone, got my ass contanstly, kicked but hey..

is this some thing they are going to patch/aware of or is there a simple fix, haalp me GAFionekenobe you are my only hope

Just a bit of a "general concept" question here, I'm thinking about creating a secondary team based around Legs, and I'm also trying to have a bit of fun playing around with different characters at the same time. When I make my teams, I try to follow a rule where first up is either the rush down pro or the all rounder, then second is the trickster/trap layer, and the final member is for lock down or a mix of the first two with a heavier emphasis on the lock down aspect.

When I put together a concept team, I initially thought of something to the effect of Chun/Dormmamu/Storm or Chun/Dormmamu/Wesker, but I'm wondering if there are more interesting variations that can be used to get the same effect.

Edit: For clarification's sake, Dante/Morrigan/Phoenix is the main team here.

Try playing in Arcade or Training with Fight Request on. Generally works quickly and doesn't lose connection.

Spencer can catch a LOT of people offguard with front grapple > command grab, and with a slow moving assist (i.e. doom rocks) it's safe to do. And if you do land it, it's a free combo afterward.

Read somewhere last night about how some guy thinks Tron Bonne says "you peed yourself" after her lunch time hyper. Now I can't unhear it.

What about Deadpools "I've got rump-shoot"?

Stuff like this and Spencer busting through that Proton Cannon/Hyper Sentinel Force combo on the stream that was up last night really make me think that he's very underrated.

When Ryu face spammers online, he gets really mad !!!!!!!!!!!!
going to buy a new TV tomorrow :(
