I am really contemplating getting this game. I was a big fan of MvC 2 but I've heard mixed reviews from some of my friends on PSN. What do you guys think about it?
Gameplay is stupid good but the rest of the game is just stupid.

mvc3:fate of two stupids

I'm almost 100% certain L M H, F+H doesn't combo unless you're x factored. F+H has a HUUUUUGE startup. Are you sure you've tried this in training mode with auto block on?

Ah fucking hell.

Okay, NM. She's boss once you get the flashkick sentinel loop rolling, but looks like I gotta go back to the lab to find a more solid setup for this. Her crouching H is good, but it doesn't combo well. I may have to switch Haggar to pipe to set up the vulnerability to go into this. If not I'll have to find a way to cover her for the running close line that acts as a focus attack, but hitting that running move= the same problem as hitting the flashkick running move.

For the record though that setup kills the computer I mentioned earlier. Achievement hunt with it for easy times, and for rushing scrubs out online. If I can find a combo setup for the flashkick/sentinel assist loop I'll let ya know. Till then...fuck.

What are you talking about, it combos great. cr.A, cr.B, cr.C into whatever. If you wanna try that flash kick then do cr.A, cr.B, cr.C, dp+a.

I just do a standard. cr.A, cr.B, cr.C, S, sj, j.b, j.b, j.c, j.s. Land->runners-> OTG torpedo. Then you can go into her emerald or her resets.

Also you can't call out assist during your sprint, from areal S hits I need to hit 2+Assist, 2+S, 6+L in order to use Haggar's pipe assist bounce into re-launch from She-Hulks OTG slide. Though I might be wrong when it comes to cancelling moves into run, or I might just need to do that due to the timing...

Also if you're using Sent I'd recommend bring him out with your launch then using MMHS to knock them down into the drones (slow mid-screen, fast in the corner) then hitting the opponent to the ground with a jumping S (of HS in the corner) from the drone belt into your OTG.

Oh, and it's character dependant (doesn't work on small characters) but if you want to extend She-Hulk combos from your grab hit them with one of two jumping M,H,S loops before going into crouching MHS.

Online mode in this game is trash imo. Lag kills any kind of combo I try to set up.
I have had no lag problems.

yo there's a skisonic video. good shit I'm trying to see that

Hello men and woman, this is my first post here so I hope I don't screw anything up. I've lurked for quite some time, but in risk of being called creepy I'll just say since a January.

I love this game. Offline is so good. Online is tricky but I've managed to pull some wins (out of my ass). Its also very frustrating, I think this will probably be the last fighting game I buy. Then again I said that with BlazBlue CT. Anyway, when you play online, is there some trick to getting air combos out? I always seem to jump past or under them due to lag.

Since I'm not at home, does anyone know if doing 23+S will trigger runners? I mean it's technically two downs sorta. I just really really hate that double tap motion uggh.

As much as I hate to admit it, Magneto perfectly fits my playstyle. Before I got this game I thought I'd be playing Dormammu/MODOK/Phoenix, but I'm getting closer to something like Trish/C.Viper/Magneto.

I... I might even replace C.Viper with Storm. Oh god. I just love flying characters so much. WHAT'S HAPPENING
Pick a top tier.

people with online problems. list your connection type wireless or wired? what system?also your internet provider/bandwidth if known

I have had no problems
wired
ps3
comcast

also your router ? is it manually port forwarded? what model?

X-23 is pretty boss.

The entire cast is pretty boss.

Online is not working for me:

- Wired / PS3 / 1MB
- Leaderboards dont show, cant connect to matches, every player is shown with 4 bars.

Wow. Online is UNPLAYABLE. Whole second of input lag. Can't even block when I hold back the entire fight. I MAD SALTY.

In other news... Spencer is awesome. Too bad I can't even do shit online. Wtf

Edit:
Wireless
Xbox
Cox broadband.

I know it's not my connection though. The netcode in this game is bad because of how fast paced it is. :(

I'm not lagging but the fact that 4 out of 5 games that I try to find fail in joining is making me super irritated. I agree that the gameplay is amazing but everything else is crap. There are other fighters that implement feature that should've been standard to the genre. What the freaking crap happened?

Doesn't matter if you have 100Mbit wired connection if the other guy is using a bad-latency connection on wireless.

What is your nat type?

I have been able to pull all my lab combos off online including chun jump cancel combos and dash under crossups.

I have had 2 laggy matches my whole time.

It's an inconsistent experience. The fighting game equivalent of Gears of War. When everything works, it's nirvana. When it doesn't, it's frustrating as hells. The highs are high enough that a lot of people are willing to suffer through the lows.

I ordered mine for £33 so you've wasted at least £7!

Amazon says my copy of this is supposed to get here tomorrow. I am excited way more than I should be considering I suck at fighting games. Case in point: I've broken 3 360 controllers thanks to SSFIV and ended up buying an arcade stick just so I'd stop breaking the dumb things.

However, this game is just too awesome to ignore. I watched the whole 2 hours of Level Up Your Game so hopefully I won't suck as bad at MvC3, but who knows. I'll keep coming back even if I do.

"It won't hurt me this time, really."

I'm thinking about Thor/Akuma/Dormammu.

I'm a scrub, what does the experienced players here think of this as a starting team? Has anyone here even tried this team before lol

I still use Dorm and Thor (not really as a team anymore) but Thor might get you frustrated considering how much spam is in the game.

Where can I find the currently accepted tier breakdown of the characters? I'm interested where the following characters factor into it:

Wolverine
Dante
Morrigan
Iron Man
Deadpool
Spider-Man
Zero
Trish

I tried thor. I couldn't play him since hearing "Mighty [move name]" constantly drove me nuts.

Too early for tier lists dude. Kinda need the game out for a little longer, and maybe some good sized tournies before things fall into place.

The massive cast and three character per team helps to contribute to this, in my opinion. With so many possible combinations to play against you can get stuck in some really tough match ups to play against. By the same token you should have some times that you can just dominate. 's part of why I like the game though, keeps things a little more fluid as opposed to just a one on one fighter.

Also, there are lot of people just picking up the game now, which means that matchmaking is in flux. That 0 wins 0 losses guy you are about to play could be a MvC 2 veteran just picking up the game who is about to run you over with mag/sent/storm. I'd expect this to even out after a little while of the game being out. And there seem to be plenty of new players, so I'd imagine most anyone will be able to find some similar skill level matches over time.

Ok, how about just general impressions then.

I'm trying to figure what characters to focus on. So many choices! :P

Only know Ironman outta all of them personally. He's a very solid character and easy to use. Can both zone and pressure reasonably well. Both his supers are awesome, and his assist is pretty good too. Not sure how he'll end up in tiers, but he'll make mid tier easily.

I have Thor as my backup character if I get sick of Viewtiful Joe.

I can put up with his constant MIGHTY X, but I can't put up with trying to do Kara-HCBs in a game where people can mash crouching light and kill a character off a successful connection, and that's not even taking the netcode almost always dropping one of the inputs in the HCB into account.

Long story short, I'd advise against using Thor unless you're a masochist like me (SSF4 Makoto for life!)

The Antitype said:

Wolverine is all about speed and his mad mixup game but if he gets hit by a decent player, he's down 50-80% life

Dante is the Ken of this game in that you can mash buttons and look awesome as shit doing it and also win a lot, but if you find someone who knows how to counter him, you're going down hard. He does have massive potential damage and one of the better hypers in the game, though.

Morrigan is a good assist for her meter gain ability, but can be tough to play due to her diagonal dash. She's a fucked up Darkstalkers version of Ryu

Iron Man's good at zoning and pressure if you can dash properly, but I've heard tales of his launcher being a bitch to land.

Deadpool is Dante but with more zoning ability, less health, and more speed

Spider-Man... He can move around quickly and get some good mixups, but his playstyle's a bit weird. Most I've ran into just seem to keep throwing web balls and combo off that (which doesn't really work all that well)

Zero is a glass cannon, all about brutal damage and speed, but he dies real quickly. No real zoning ability outside of a simple fireball type attack either.

Trish is all about the traps and zoning ability. If you play her right, you're sure to destroy a few TV screens of your enemies, and she has a decent mixup rushdown style, but if you play her wrong, you really just get a sort of bad Dante.

I still have not seen anyone use VJ in online ranked

I've probably used him in about 130 of my ~180 matches played on PSN, yet still haven't seen another one. I don't know why. Joe is awesome as hell.
