I lost to that ND Lee guy twice in the tournament, he ended up getting second. I need to work on snapping phoenix in and get some sort of strategy to keep her pinned down. earlier in the day I tried snapping her in and he just ran away and tagged out so in top 8 I tried running away and lost. lol. i think snapping her in is the way to go though. running away for 60 seconds sucks.

Surely there must be one character out of the 36 playables that none of the half million consumers of this game is using!

Referencing the fact Wong just won Winter Brawl using Shehulk/tron assist.

This, use characters that help the character you like the most. It was said the best on the stream tonight, pick the character you like the most, then build a team around them. Even if you don't like all the characters.

I was fighting my friend today with his new Phoenix and I tried running away but it definitely backfired, runaway is difficult against someone who knows what they are doing.

I tried doing a few things, exchange combos to build meter, then snapped her in. before she came in Rekouha Hyper, when she starts eating chip X Factor Rekouha again, etc etc.

Like you said though, gotta snap her in, and try your best to lock her down. And if they tag out well gotta snap her back in or something. The other thing is even if you do manage to get phoenix they come in with another character fully loaded with meter and Xfactor so its a tough decision.

I can't believe he walked into it again.

So I finally got around to practicing some offline games, and I'm really liking Viewtiful Joe. The only problem is that I kinda stink with him, and since I don't own it yet, I don't have time to practice regularly. I played a bunch of friendlies over the weekend though, and I finally found a team I'm comfy with for now (VJoe/Viper/Spider-Man).

I was wondering if there was anything I could do to continue a combo with Viper? All I have for now is launch, ABCS, Seismo into Burst Time.

What team were you using?

The Ammy player was stupid for falling for it twice. I understand the first time, but as soon as the third matched started, I can't believe he tried the exact same opening.

magneto/akuma/ironman. My iron man is horrible though, I only use him for his assist. Im just torn tho because in tournament play it seems kinda dumb to grind iron man when I could just pick up sent who has an assist that lets me rush in like iron mans beam anyway. :\

So who do you guys think is the worst character in the game?

I'm thinking it's between Captain America, Spencer, Felicia, and Ryu.

Originally I had She-Hulk and Viewtiful Joe in the running, but after playing around with them a bit I think that She-Hulk has a ton of potential but she NEEDS a good assist to be effective. VJ is a good character, but Zero seems like a better choice in almost every fight where a more TVC style would be effective/desired.

I've seen some high-level play with Ryu and Shinku-Hadouken is one of the best ultras in the game, but again, it seems Akuma's options automatically put him far above Ryu, especially when you factor in the value of his assists.

Felicia I have not seen many people use right, but after playing around with her online I think she's a solid character but Wolverine is a similar character that is much stronger.

So that leaves Captain America and Spencer.

Cap has an amazing assist and Hyper Charging Star is an invaluable super but he has so much trouble causing good damage.

Spencer, while hard-hitting, is probably my choice for worst character. Too many of his moves leave him at a disadvantage and despite his mobility options, they aren't as effective as they should be on paper when applied to a real match.

He seems to be used more than my other nominees in tournaments so far, but I have never seen anyone use him as effectively as the other characters.

Spiderman seems pretty bad to be honest. Wesker seems to do a much better job of what Spiderman can do, and is much more durable along with an OTG assist/attack.

Didn't get to see the MvC3 singles tournament. You should still try her out and see if you actually like how she plays. I think having another high health character would help you out a lot if your Hsien-Ko got taken out while trying to get gold armored.

I've been running Amaterasu/Akuma/Sent, and the combined squishiness of A/A has been making me more and more uncomfortable. I'm thinking of moving Amaterasu to secondary and shopping around for a new initial point chracter, since Akuma's demon flip assist is useless with Sentinel. (Although it is super fun with rushdown Ammy to set up unblockables.)

You definitely have to be able to lock Phoenix down if you're on the snap-in plan, and Sent Drones can definitely help do that. Iron Man's beam assist seems a bit redundant when Magneto has his super-fast disruptor and Akuma has his Hadoken super.

Hulk I can see an argument for.

Haggar I'm not so sure about. He has one of the best assists in the game and the pipe is strong.

Haggar is like comando in this, only his assist is good, pipe isnt really anything special, if he is your last character he is a dead spot.

Ha, I'm actually going through a similar dilemma with Iron Man only I don't use his beam assist to rush down. My Iron Man is so trash, but I don't know who else to switch him out for. My Sentinel is even worse though and I don't like how big he is, but dat assist...

You HAVE to try snapping in Phoenix. After a snap in, there's a brief amount of time that they're unable to tag out. You need to utilize this time to go for 50/50s.

With Mag on point, start wave dashing right after the snapback and make it confusing as to where you're going to land. That can be your first 50/50. Next, you should probably call Akuma to keep her pinned down, and if she jumps, try to follow her in the air for an air grab. Finally, when you know she wants to tag out, block UP so that you don't get hit by the exchange, and hit their returned character with a fat combo. Three chances to punish them on a Phoenix snap-in, so look out for all of them.

And yeah, you would be way better off with Doom missiles or Sent drones in that situation, since it makes your crossups that much more dangerous.

Finally--the only way you are really in trouble is if they build 5 meters with their first character, and put in Phoenix second (forcing you to kill her and bring out Dark Phoenix). If you kill their first point character quickly and move on to their second with a combo, I don't think it's worth snapping her in anymore. At that point, just finish killing the second character (save your X-Factor of course) and then run the clock. Use Magneto flight to chill way up in the air and keep on the move from those TK Shots. The only thing you have to watch out for at that point is air grabs.

If Phoenix comes in 2nd with 5 full bars, snap in their other character and try to kill them so that they're stuck with Phoenix, and run the clock.

That's actually a really good comparison.

My problem with hulk is his damage output really isn't that great unless you can get a corner combo off and his assists are bad. He seems to be the weak link on most teams I've watched.

Phoenix is too fucking godlike. Can't wait for the nerf.

Haggar can't do all that much by himself.

Hulk's AA assist is godly with the super armor it has.

All of his assists are good. His damage is awesome. Its his mobility thats a problem.

If his gamma charges could be made safer he would almost be broken.

I don't agree his damage is awesome, though. If all of the hits of Gamma Tsunami connected from across the screen he would be way better. Only when he gets a corner combo off does his damage potential come through.

Yeah my first match was against another sent/phoenix player right, and I did the "ace thier first two characters then time them out" and it worked. ppl behind me were laughing that I ran for 60 seconds. So this next guy I tried the snapping in bit but just didnt have a solid strategy but what you're saying makes sense for sure.

My sentinel is ass but its all about return on investment with this shit if you plan on playing in tournaments. I could spend just as much time on Iron Man as I do with Sent and end up being 50x more dangerous just because of all of sents buffs compared to iron man. I mean shit my team already has 2 low life characters.. I need a tank and im def not playing haggar. lol

Trying to be good with Dormammu/Amaterasu/Felicia, but it's very hard.

Can't keep people away with Dormammu, Amaterasu is always good fun but dies so fast, and with Felicia I always tend to lose against any other fast 'in-your-face' char.

Dormington is a beast, but he can be hard to zone with at times. Even with all of his health, one bad whiff and your ass is taking a ride. His teleports are solid, but they aren't in the same league as other characters'.

Felicia's range throws me off too much. I like her, but I feel like I'm constantly getting shafted on reach.

Abuse the shit out of flame carpet and your destruction mix spells. You want to get the meteors to come down or create the full screen explosion as much as possible.

Aaaaaand starting to give up ranked matches after 41 win streak...

jesus, PSN community is bad

Wait till you play a Spencer that does a touch of death on you, you'll change your mind.

The one thing that surprises me so far is the lack of MODOK in high level play.

I remember how he was hyped as the Sentinel-killer.

I think people are still figuring him out.

My criticism of most MODOK players is how little they use analysis cubes. They are an amazing zoning tool and even landing one changes the entire flow of the match.

Hunter series breaks my head. I have trouble alternating the crouching/standing all the way up the chain. I much prefer 3-hit alternating or Marvel style (I think most of the people I use are that way, except Morrigan and she's taken a backseat lately for Wesker/Akuma/Chun... though Chun is Hunter too, I think).

This only works in lobbies, no?
Hard to read someone's license before a ranked match -- and I don't think there's a lot of opportunity in normal player match either...

Noticed in lobbies yes, didn't even try ranked or games yet so I thought it was the same.
