Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds |OT| - Ya down with OTG? Yeah, you know me!

This game is crazy. I always play fast light attack oriented long combo characters in fighters. It's what I do. They're now no longer my best at all.

Here are my favorites to play so far

Haggar
She-Hulk
Ryu ( and I hate him. I'm a Ken fan!)
Spencer
Morrigan
MODOK
Dormammu

Seriously wtf happened to me with this game? I know ryu and Morrigan are fast characters but historically I always hate playing them in every fighter they're in and now I love them.

Haggar is a jumping slow wrestler who is the opposite of anything I've ever been good with before and now he's damned near my best character.

She-Hulk is a crouch based combo, wall bouncing, command grabber with flashkicks and I have no idea why I understand her moves so well. We sync up and she stands for most of the tricks I never use or look for in a character.

Spencer is slow, telegraphs like fuck and has to be one of my most unpredictable destroyers to play. I come from everywhere with him and somehow seldom get caught setting up his combos. That plus team hyper with bionic arm means team hyper into a second bionic arm. God damned destroyer of fresh new gameplay.

All this plus the trap and run games of both MODOK and Dormammu equal a game that I am playing using what seems to be next to nothing but the stuff I hated in all other fighters to have to use. I was a dasher who utilized light combos before MVC3. I thought X-23 would be my new pride and joy, but while awesome she doesn't compare to my new found loves.

This game changed my playstyle. How damned good do you have to program movesets to make someone change their preferences after nearly twenty years?

Heh. I beat a dude using almost nothing but em disruptor a few days ago and he sent me a flood of hatemail over it. It's like, shit, if you're gonna keep running into it, I'm gonna keep doing it.

Ah yes, like the "throws are cheap" guys. The ones who stand there with the stick held back in the corner and let you throw them.

15 times.

Then scream that throws are cheap.

Honestly I think a lot of these sarty bros who send messages like that are from Gamefaqs  Taking a peek at Gamefaqs fighting game boards reveals: everyone thinks everyone else's character is OP and just for noobs. Everyone talks in text messaging shortcuts and says "ur" five times in every message. And interestingly, they tend to argue over whether guys should use female characters.

That one really caught my eye one time and I started noticing it; lots of widdle bros around thar seem genuinely distressed and even angry at mans who use womans in fighting games.
Just about every female character in this game is upper tier. Why WOULDN'T you use them?

Trish
Storm
Morrigan
Chun-Li
C. Viper
She Hulk
Tron Bonne
Amaterasu
X-23
Phoenix
Felicia
Hsien-Ko

And yeah this game changed my playstyles as well. Never in my life did I think I would be playing with a zoning character but Dormammu is one of my favorites in this game. He has a lot of depth and I love it.

I know exactly what you mean.. I was messing around and just spamming Iron Man's unibeam assist.. and the guy kept on falling for it as if it was the most unavoidable move ever

and of course he flooded my message box afterwards

Was talking with friend about this very thing today.

Some may disagree, and this is NOT saying that every character is perfectly tuned or balanced, but we feel that the design ecosystem of the characters in MvC3 may be some of the most deliberate in a fighting game. That is, rather than a random smattering of character archetypes that may, or may not, work together as a cast, serious effort was put into trying to give each character a role to fill. So that they just /work/ in general within the game. Instead of their randomly being characters who are usable, and unlucky characters who are just freaks and can't do anything realistic against most of the cast.

So basically, you can pick any character in MvC3 and find that they actually work, and work well, almost all the time. You can find a legitimate use for most any assist type on almost every character.

Few if any other games seem to achieve this. MvC2 was utterly random because they just ganked every sprite ever and threw them together without rhyme or reason. Even games like SFIV are biased by trying to include characters purely for the sake of having their image in the game - like the entire base Super SF2 Turbo cast.

Seems tho they tried real hard to make sure the cast in MvC3 works as a whole; I don't think the game has gotten enough credit for that yet because everyone is biased by experience to expect vast tiers and characters who are totally useless, or are senseless additions.

Also might be a reason why initially some characters who seem "obvious" were excluded, because in the time they had available they couldn't decide on a way to make them play harmoniously with the rest of the cast.

We have to remember that this game was designed with a lot more conscious intent than MvC2. Part 2 was just a clusterfuck of random elements that somehow ended up being a workable game, tho with a lot of "created depth" by constructing tactics around glitches and oddities in character designs. Part 3 was made after observing what people did with Marvel for 10 years. I realize a lot of pros and vets (and wannabe vets) are dismissing the game as "scrubby" because it's not their vision of a sequel to MvC2. But you have to admit the knowledge of what MvC2 turned into, has had a profound impact on MvC3.

Of course, of course, but you're thinking rationally ;)

I just mean, that the kiddy/scrubby/ragey/gamefaqsy guys actually seem to only pick male characters because it's "gay" to play a grrl in the game, or they're /actually/ insecure about it.

The fact that so many female characters are Super Effective in MvC3 is just going to add a whole layer of sea salt onto things for people like that. Once saw guys posting that girls should be weaker than guys in fighting games because they're just girls.

Man, I was never big on Ryu either but I really dig him in this game. I don't really know how to play as him, but I have a lot of fun when I do. It's that hyper. It's so big. It's so blue.

Same here. I tried mixing it up in SSF4 but it wasn't nearly as rewarding as this. I...oh wait Kaijima just said everything I would have said, but better.

I feel inspired, I think I'm going to make an Arthur/Sentinel/Doom team with the appropriate assists and see what happens.
I thought that would be the most obnoxious possible team until I played against Sent/Doom/Phoenix. HIDDEN MISSILES fuuuuuu

Now I'm conflicted! But I'm guessing arthur is atleast a more drawn out annoyance so I'd rather use him instead of blowing up with phoenix.

Yeah. Against Phoenix it becomes a fucking time attack. You're either rushing to snap her in and take her out or running away, trying to avoid turning her into Dark Phoenix. It's both stressful and tedious, at least in my experience! Arthur's way funnier. He is the best.

TELL ME MORE. I love Cap but I haven't seen anyone really use him or talk about him (aside from that one guy in here who kept talking about what bullshit his shield is.)

Well his combos are really easy and do a ton of damage for no meter(I've gotten 415k no assist no xfactor no hyper no otg), he has an invincible reversal and anti projectile special and hyper, and he can cover massive screen area with shield slash, which combos into normals for a full punish at mid screen, on the ground or in the air. He doesn't have massive damage potential and his dhc harmony and mixup isn't amazing, but he has solid assists(2 hit projectile is ripe for crossups aka mini drones) and the best VA.

I was sagely nodding along up until this. Insert a "can't tell if serious" picture here.

I play decent but Sentinel rips me apart. I am wondering if I should wait to see I'd they patch Sent. I play tons of fighters including MvC2 and Sent is broken to me.

People that use sentinel are such little shits.
The game is losing it's fun appeal fast. I keep seeing the same handful of characters over and over.

I'd join some player lobbies, but the lack of spectator mode makes the wait feel even shittier than usual...

Edit:
I've fought quite a few Thors today and I even fought my first MODOK(not very good to say the least). I guess I have got to see that much...

MvC3 voice acting tier list:

God: Phoenix

High: Mags, MODOK, Hulk, Storm, Arthur, Doom, Dorm, Skrull, Thor, Wolverine, Morrigan

Mid: Deadpool, Wesker, Akuma, Tron, Zero, Chris, Taskmaster, Viper, Chun, Ryu, Ironman, Trish, Dante, Spiderman, Ammy, Spencer, Hsien Ko, Felicia, Sentinel

Low: Taskmaster, Captain America, Viewtiful Joe, She Hulk, X-23

I FINALLY decided on a team Wesker/Ammy/Akuma. Have a lot of fun with this team, gives me tons of mix up options; Ammy is super fun, but hard to use, definitely the weakest of the team; Akuma, a beast, but I still need to work on him quite a bit.

If I feel like trolling someone I use Sentinel/Hulk/Doom; great spam fun with this team!

hmm.

I don't think any of those characters are "low". Certainly not She-Hulk or Task Master.

You have two taskmasters.

I think I'm just going to build a specific crusher team to play ranked instead.

I just keep fighting people with that Sentinel assist and not even gold Hsien-Ko can make a dent anymore...

Edit:
Yep, I give up.

Step up your game, it'll only make you a better player in the long run.

Lol..... I shouldn't have laugh at that.

Its pretty hard to figure out who the weakest character is in this game. Each character have something good about them.

God damn at powered up Arthur homing arrows + hidden missiles assist. Team SAD is lame in the best way possible.

Can't block anything on reaction online.

I don't even think it's (mostly) the game's fault at this point. I'm getting terrible latency test results in general, even at 4AM. It's about damn time I look into another ISP or something.

Also dlc is out.

Had someone from GameFAQs give me the scoop. Looks like no alternate colors :\ You select them with RT/R2. Shadow Mode is selected from the Online menu.

So is this game fixed yet? Had it since the day after launch and everytime i try to play ranked play or online all i get is an error that says cannot connect to host. In fact the only way i can play online is if i select arcade mode and set the joing game thing on. And it only works for player matches. I have not played in a week, so wondering if it has been sorted, or am i going to ask for my money back?

I tried out the hardest CPU in shadow mode and it kind of does feel distinct from the average CPU. It feels a lot more like a match with a real human if you ask me.

It's still a poor substitute for spectator mode anyway.

Nope, it's still fucked in that manner. It'll find matches super quick as long as you set it to find people of any ranking(downside is that you'll constantly fight people with hundreds of wins).

Fuck me dead! The game is super amazing, but it really shits me. Thing is i set it to any rank in any region, but if it is a ranked match nobody joins, and it will NEVER connect if its through the online mode, i only get an error. Player matches only work of i go through arcade mode and set fighter requests on.

It is really starting to piss me off. Any word on a patch or something?

I ordered from their store back when the game launched and that has pretty much left me with zero confidence in their "word".

Something akin to a promise appeared in the Capcom forums, but I don't think it was taken very seriously by most people. I hope they prove me wrong.

I had similar issues. My connection with Comcast was going to crap.

After talking to customer service, I upgraded from a DOCSIS 2.0 to a 3.0 modem. (Apparently I needed to upgrade, but they didn't bother to ever tell me.) The connection is much better now.

Still can't reliably block on reaction though.

"I had similar issues. My connection with Comcast was going to crap."

I was having huuuge comcast issues the week of MVC3 release. I already had a DOCSIS 3.0 modem, but yeah, it was awful.

Tokido might clean up. Bring some of his BB combo execution into MvC3 and really do some damage. Just wonder how fast he is at blocking.

And yeah, I've got PS3, so I'm trying to find someone to buy the DLC on 360 as soon as it goes up to find out whether or not those costumes have alternate colors D:

EDIT: Looks like it's up: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/MARVEL-VS-CAPCOM-3/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80243430806

Yeah maybe Tokido would be at a huge disadvantage if he was gonna try and play MvC2. MvC3 is a completely new game and everybody's a scrub right now so he's not at a huge disadvantage. I'm expecting that he'll do well.

Hmm... I might have accomplished nothing other than future proofing my connection a little in that case.
