Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

Pretty sure we're out of the hate phase. Demo is really fun go try it

Maybe not in here as much. But it's full swing elsewhere. The middle ground is where most of it lies. The crowd interested enough in the game to know about it, but not enough to really get hardcore into mechanics. There the presentation is still a problem there.

You go on twitter and the majority of MVC:I posts are ripping on the game. Hell I made a shit post and it managed to get 300+ retweets for no reason. Hell the numerous memes on those renders they released and the UI are everywhere.

This game still has quite a road ahead of it. Especially when they don't seem to be hearing any of the feedback.

Yeah, this game is considered a huge laughing stock in many different places. Any talk about the game is immediately disregarded with, "Lol, DBF gonna kill this game bruhs!!!"

Obnoxious, but not unexpected. I don't even care if anyone dislikes the game, but people are just being stupid about it.

I think a big part is the hype around what is the next MvC has just need so lackluster. Even for a lot of us here. The gameplay is helping, but even from the get go everyone was just kinda "eh" about it once they saw it in motion.

Compared to DBZF which is 20% complete yet had one hell of a flashy and hype unveiling.

I definitely agree that it's dumb to continuously compare the two and what not. But capcom really could have done much better with the unveiling and presentation. Since in most cases no one really seems to mind the gameplay changes after seeing them.

Capcom has no one but themselves to blames for the way they handled everything about this game

oh my god that devils never cry remix is so bad lmao

what the fuck

anyways still bothered by the ground movement being so stiff. it's bizarre that the airdashes are still smooth while ground dashes are all ironman tier garbage

The models, presentation and overall art style must have been outsourced, given the quality of the (almost) final product.

Don't know if they have enough time to make changes on some characters...

I feel like MVCI is the Donald Trump of E3 games, it's the game everyone laughs at and everyone thinks is gonna be a disaster... and by all accounts they're right, but it's still gonna "win" at the end of the day when it sells extremely well and the DLC makes Capcom massive profits.

My instinct from being a member here is that reaction on GAF mirrors commercial performance on core games like this, at least vaguely. With exceptions like Nintendo games and CoD and sports games and stuff that reliably sells. I think hardcore gamers are tastemakers to a certain extent, but it isn't everything.

I mean, the game is basically in meme territory as far as negative perception goes. That's bad because those people that tune out will probably never tune back in again, so however much this game improves from now until September 19th may not even register. At the very least, the next Story trailer needs to get the models right, namely Cap and Chun.

People are upset and the things they are upset about have compounded so it's going to take stuff like a sudden announcement that X-Men are in the base roster to shift that sort of momentum. And that's to get from a "no" to a "maybe," because it seems like MvC:I is the opportunity for disgruntled Capcom fans to get revenge on Capcom and they want to see it through.

But I'm unconvinced that this is necessarily the case outside of the FGC. From my extremely limited look around for non-FGC opinions, it's mostly "yeah that Chun-Li model looks goofy, however, EXCITE!" The target for this game is different, and I think the byproducts of that are what are pissing off people in the FGC, but also what may give it that broader appeal to people who are less cut and dry about X-Men being a purchasing point, for example. Can't possibly do worse than SFV, as it's going to be the most feature-complete Capcom fighter at launch probably ever only from the modes we know about and especially from being on so many platforms, but it's not going to do NRS numbers. Really up in the air IMO, but it's basically the strength of the Marvel brand to general consumers vs. how much Capcom can avoid future blunders and correct issues people have raised a stink about thus far.

Yeah the problem isn't that MVCI is bad it just isn't living up to the insanely high standard set by mvc2 and 3. I'm assuming it's because the game has a smaller budget due to Capcom being broke which is why there's no art, character trailers, etc.

Imagine that the first thing announced about that DBZ game was that you start out with Yamcha, Bulma, and the little guy that hangs out with Tien, and some dude on the the internet said you would maybe get to play as Goku, Vegeta, and Trunks later, if Toriyama felt like it, but probably not. Then throw on top of that that the art direction is meh.

The DBZ game would be getting hate too. It's all deserved.

I'm really interested in how this game will do. I can't really predict how much casual Marvel fans will give a shit about things. Should just delete Chun at this point...

Not a fair comparison, you could easily fit in more fan favorites from DBZ as opposed to marvel where you have crazy amount of characters all popular at one point in time. So you have 90's nostalgia vs new MCU, vs a shit ton of characters. Yes in reality the roster is underwhelming, but it won't be hard for a DBZ game to deliver on the essentials vs a Marvel vs Capcom game with a huge roster to chose from.

That video with yipes and deep game mechanics this is freaking marvel!! Sure art direction sucks the game looks sick in terms of mechanics again what capcom does best. A lot of band wagoners on dbf now that's understandable, both look like fun games. Marvel looks hype af though.

I mean, I wouldn't equate the MCU to the likes of Yamcha & Bulma, especially not now.

Same, especially after the gameplay demonstration. It may be 2v2 w/ no assists, but it still looks like Mahvel.

I'm one of the few people who likes the change for 2 reasons

1. I prefer 2v2 to 3v3 because it helps prevents certain teams from being OP and it also prevents characters like Doom being OP because "they work with everybody". There's other reasons I prefer 2v2 but I don't have time to go in depth

2. I feel like the activate tag system is much more interesting than the assist system because there is way more freedom for your characters to synergize with each other

Absolutely agree with this one after playing it and seeing how others are using it.

What?! How are Captain Freakin America and the HULK comparable to Bulma and Chiaoutzu?

And why is Wolverine suddenly comparable to Goku? Logan hasn't been the face of Marvel for a long time and in the public eye is much smaller compared to Iron Man and Captain America

I think one big issue is a lot of Casual Marvel does not give two fucks about capcom. People I know are like "Why isn't this just a marvel game". Makes me sad, but it's really just the case of things.

I can barely hear it over the game audio tbh. Probably need to hear it on my headphones when I get home.

And that video reminds me... the fuck happened to the effects on some of the moves of Dante? He does Volcano and nothing happens... wtf!

If this is how they are treating Dante in MvC and internally at Japan then I am very concerned for DMC5 right now.

Can we talk about the fact that BIONIC AAAAAAARM isn't invincible anymore? They better fix that it just delete Spencer from the game?

Speaking of Spencer has anybody beaten Ultron Sigma in the demo yet? I can't because I suck with Thor and Spencer

Man they really need to fix some of the character's eyes in this game... (well a lot of shit). And now I kind of see before when someone mentioned there's a lot of supers where people just chuck someone in the air and shoot them down lol.

I feel like Dante was rushed out for E3. He should have his effects back before release. Yeah Beehive is especially off putting.

Also Dante can't use Lady's gun anymore. Possible hint at future DLC? I know nothing about DMC so idk if she has enough screen time to make a moveset out of

Lady was a playable character in DMC4:SE, but good point about not using Kalina ann... Could be a hint of Lady DLC..

none of the agni/rudra moves have a wind component- they're just all fire now!

i can't wait to see how you react when you see what they did to acid rain too, haha

like more than any other character dante shows how much worse the special effects in this game look vs 3

To be fair: certain effects (especially anything lightning or electricity based) looked pretty not ok in 3

You guys aren't factoring in the fullness of this hypothetical situation in which whoever owns DBZ decided "yeah, Goku isn't gonna be a thing anymore. Don't put him in the game because Yamcha is more popular."

Neoxon, I know you feel me on this. lmao

Edit: Ok. Yamcha may be harsh. But still...it's like Krillin and Piccolo with no Goku and Vegeta. Like...who made this hypothetical game? lmao

The one scene with Cap telling Hawkeye to take the shot is the worst of all. Cap's eyes and teeth are unsettling.

Did that IGN Live have anything interesting to add? Or more of the same stuff?
No, don't waste your time.

any new videos from day 2? or were the pros only there for day 1?

Nobody made this hypothetical game. Because it doesn't exist. Not having Wolverine in a MVC game in no where close to not having Goku in a DB game. It's more like not having Jotaro in J Stars vs+ or no Snake in PABRA. It's weird but it's not a huge deal. Goku is the main character of a franchise. Wolverine is one of many leading characters in the X men. A franchise that isn't even entirely relevant anymore. Especially since this is MARVEL vs Capcom not X men children of the atom or even Marvel Superheroes.

Yeah I went through his moves, very lackluster effects when someone like Dr Strange has crazy extravagant effects on him. Really disappointing there.

I also could not find his Kalina Ann moves in the game. That is potentially telegraphing Lady as a DLC character.

DragonBall caused a surge in Guilty Gear sales. That says something about what DragonBall will do, sales wise. DragonBall hasn't been a sales slouch with Xenoverse, so I think there's a pretty decent chance of it cracking 2-3 million copies sold.

I called SFV failing, and I think MVC:I will do the same. It's SFxT all over again.

I'd say the Goku of the Marvel universe would be Spider-man. At the moment Wolverine would probably be the Piccolo? Maybe the Vegeta?

I kinda think Iron Man is the Vegeta though.

Would Gohan be the Captain America?

Super's New Universes (Caulifla, Kale, Frost) are probably the In/Nuhumans

I guess I'm bored waiting for new footage haha

I don't think you can really make a comparison since DB is just one story and Marvel as a whole has hundreds of different stories through its several comics, comic reboots, movies, and shows with literally thousands of characters and hundreds of them each taking their own turn in the spotlight either picking up old character's banners, taking charge of a team they've been on for a while, or just getting a successful solo run.

Huh that's the first I've heard of something being entertaining in the story mode. I mean, is there anything GOOD in the demo? I've been kind of avoiding videos of it because of the negativity

Why...in the HELL...does Arthur still get knocked down after his armor runs out! And why can you not tag out of this to try to save him? Why? He's not as threatening in this as he was in a game with lvl 3 xfactor and gold armor. All he has are tag mixups and stone stuff like the rest of the cast!

Stupid ass gimmick. No super should fuck you over that hard.

This is especially bad in a game where OTGing is so easy and you don't need an assist to do it.

No definitely go play the demo. It's turned me and a few others from hateful to excited. The writing is as great and campy as the MCU

Well it's a good thing this game doesn't have as many OTGs as the last one...

Uh oh...
