Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

With Guardians 2 coming out soon, you know full well why Rocket got in.

I love the X-Men, I just don't think they should take up a large portion of the roster for an entire multiverse of unique characters.

Just the same, Capcom side shouldn't be made up of Street Fighters.

This series owe its legacy to Xmen and Street Fighter characters. It's insane to go the franshice route for the sake of it and exclude good characters that people want over appeasing an arbitrary checklist.

StarLord, Groot or Gamora would have made more sense than the token mascot.
 
So If X-men were to be included, duo team ideas?

Wolverine and X-23
Storm and Black Panther
Phoenix and Cyclops

How would the rest be paired?
 
UMvC3 has one of the best rosters ever. By comparison, the MvC2 roster was complete shithouse. Lots of classic Marvel characters, X-Men included, were missing. The Capcom side had tons of blatant (at the time) omissions like characters from Breath of Fire, Dino Crisis, Rival Schools, as well as more RE characters like Leon, Claire or Chris.

The only X-Men characters that had any business in MvC3 other than the ones we got were Cyclops and Nightcrawler. Maybe Rogue. And Dust, but sadly the world is in denial about her excellence.
 
MvC2 was pretty much X-Men Vs. Street Fighter 2, featuring guest character from both companies.

UMvC3's roster was a far better representation of both companies' IP.

There are plenty of "good characters that people want" that aren't X-Men. This isn't the 90s and this isn't X-Men vs. Street Fighter.
 
I have no beef with Shuma. I really like obscure, non-traditional characters like that to keep the roster from becoming too boring. He was a really awkward pick for DLC though. I don't think many people were chomping at the bit to shell out $5 for him.

I love me some X-Men and am very nostalgic for the 90s animated cartoon, comics and such but I am glad Marvel is digging in the crates for better, fresher characters. Do I want Gambit, Psylocke, Cable and Cyclops back? Of course. But I'd rather have some fun newcomers in the base roster.

Give me Ant Man
Give me Black Panther
Give me Doc Ock or Green Goblin
Give me Nebula
Give me Punisher
Give me Elektra
Give me Ms. Marvel

I'll pay for my nostalgia fix (who am I kidding I'm buying all the characters anyway) so let some new blood in so we can see what they can do
 
You know, I will give Marvel this much over D.C.: over the last decade they've done a much better job or showing someone like me with an obvious bias why some of these other characters are cool. I mean, I actually care about Iron Man.

Marvel has done a fantastic job with their characters. They've had a resurgence of Captain America for god sakes, the most vanilla hero in existence after Superman.

Well, it's obvious the game is still in early phase of the development so I'm not in hurry for new trailers if they want to take their time with the development.

Deadpool and Cable
Magneto and Dr. Doom

(Couldn't find someone else to pair with DP, and Fox might want to market Cable.)

Hell yeah, after The Winter Soldier movie I was like Cap is my dude before that I thought he was corny.
 
For some reason, I'm expecting certain sets of characters to be announced simultaneously, like the Guardians all at once, Dante/Vergil, Maybe Lady/Trish (Hell, throw in Nero)
 
Reminder that out of 19 Marvel characters in MvC3, 7 were X-Men. That's a third. With the additional 6 in Ultimate, that was toned down to a fourth, which is still a significant portion of the roster, considering most other represented properties got 1-2 characters at most.

It could be since they haven't show anything for almost 3 months. But don't think Capcom would do it that way since it would be only from one part of the roster (Marvel/Capcom)
 
Is it outlandish to hope that assists might return in some reduced state? Like even just TvC levels would be nice.

Fighting game fans, tell me how stupid this would be:

Back Assist: Change characters.

Neutral Assist during combo: Tag-in.

Forward Assist: Summon for special move.

Well, they are one of Marvel biggest heroes, even though this time could be different because of the ban.
But Ryce said that they will be DLC, so there's some hope.

I am well aware of the popularity of X-Men characters. I'm just saying that I think a fourth (let alone third) of the roster is already really good representation, and adding more without other properties to balance it out would make the game feel less like MARVEL vs Capcom and more like X-Men vs Capcom.

Luckily, with the MCU, the other properties that aren't Spider-Man are starting to catch up to the X-Men in popularity (Spidey's always been ahead internationally), even overtaking them.

I know that it's good representation but let's not forget that the series started with COTA, so some of us grew up with that titles, the comics or X-Men TAS. I'm just mad that they were thrown under the bus because of the rights, but well, that's bussiness.
I really want to see other characters aside from the X-Men but i too hope they return.

As much of a fan of the X-Men as I am, they're my Marvel characters, I'm okay with a low count in this game, or really them not showing up at all.

Seven in 3 (six if you're willing to discount Deadpool) was just way too much. Sentinel had no right to be in that game and X-23 was a waste of a slot.

It would be a shame if they don't show up at all for me at least hahah.

Magneto, Wolverine and Storm are like the standard and expected but I want to see some of the characters I said before.
 
Honestly, while I do want a good balance of Marvel's series, like we had in UMvC3, I wouldn't mind more X-Men characters since a lot of them have fairly unique powers. I think part of their whole background of being outcasts makes it so that they normally have weirder abilities than say the Avengers who are mostly kind of generic power wise. Its a shame really that we won't get characters like Nightcrawler or Magik. And while people make fun of him, but Maggot would make a pretty interesting character from a moveset perspective.
 
The only X-Men related characters I eventually want to see are Wolverine, Cyclops, Phoenix, Storm, Magneto, and Deadpool.

Add Nightcrawler & Magik to that list for me.

I'd also add the Maximoff Twins, but they at least have some semblance of a shot of getting in the base roster (although the odds are rather small) due to both of them being long-time members of the Avengers.
 
I'd go with the 5 that Maximilian chose in one of his videos minus Omega Red.
If Psylocke makes the cut I'll go crazy just like when X appeared on the reveal trailer.

There's so much potential, Capcom should do a X-Men only game... I would buy it day -1 lol
 
As much as I'm looking forward to new character reveals and stuff, I really just want to see more of the gameplay.

I'm still on the fence about what weve seen so far. I'm fine with 2v2, but no assists bothers the crap out me.

I need them to make me a believer. Do it already, Capcom.

Yeah and those characters are also being excluded to make room half the Marvel side in UMVC3 that really shouldn't have been in.
