WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN
The highly anticipated new Marvel television series “Marvel’s Inhumans” makes its debut on the small screen with the network premiere of the series’ first two episodes on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 (8:00-10:01 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network. The season premiere of “Marvel’s Inhumans” introduces the world to the Royal Family and their internal strife, including a divisive conflict between two brothers, Black Bolt and Maximus, and their visions for the future of their people. After a military coup leaves the Royal Family stranded in Hawaii, they must find a way to reunite with each other and return home before their way of life is destroyed forever.

“Marvel’s Inhumans” stars Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Iwan Rheon as Maximus, Serinda Swan as Medusa, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Ken Leung as Karnak, Ellen Woglom as Louise, Sonya Balmores as Auran and Mike Moh as Triton.

The series is executive produced by Scott Buck, along with Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory with Buck serving as showrunner. Roel Reiné directed the first two episodes. This series is a Marvel and IMAX project and is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios.

NeoGAF HATEWATCH DRINKING GAME

Do a shot:
  • When Scott Buck's name flashes on screen, for he is the founder of this hatewatch feast; long may his television career last; praise be to his frugality and expediency
  • When Ike Pelmutter’s name appears on screen, for he has thrust this magnum opus upon us from his throne atop Marvel
  • When Medusa's hair is cut (spoilersss)
  • When the Black Bolt "constipated mouthfart flips a car" scene happens
Take a drink:
  • When the show attempts a fight scene — take two drinks if it uses the lowest rent choreography imaginable
  • When there's bad Medusa CGI hair animation
  • When a reference to the wider MCU is seen or heard because #itsallconnected — take two drinks if it references the events of Agents of SHIELD, secret best drama on television for three seasons running
  • Whenever someone uses powers (the budget is small, so this won't happen often)
  • Whenever the word "inhumans" is said on the show, take a drink ("they said the name of the shooooow!")
  • When Lockjaw shows up because he's cute and the only redeemable part of the show
Keep 911 on speed dial.

Thanks to Penguin for collaborating with me on the drinking game rules and this OT!

I can't stress enough how strange the transition is in the second episode when
Black Bolt steals clothing from a store -- because apparently he becomes a complete idiot when teleported to Earth -- and is then IMMEDIATELY being chased by the police while having one of the most awkward runs I've seen since the daughter in Taken.

Having seen it in IMAX already, I'm curious to hear from the TV watchers how they'll perceive the show if they had been aware of the comic continuity already or if there are any expectations beyond the usual ABC Marvel show standards. I ended up liking the show from what I saw, but that's mainly cause I think based on the first two episodes that there is some potential. Will definitely agree that the show was off to really rocky start. In regards to one of the gifs...
The context for him accidentally using his voice makes more sense in the actual moment.

OK, yeah, but, it's kind of cool how some of the episodes are titled like the old comic stories were titled

So it has that going for it

I think all titles are:

Behold…The Inhumans!
Those Who Would Destroy Us
Divide – And Conquer
Make Way For… Medusa
Something Inhuman This Way Comes…
The Gentleman’s Name Is Gorgon
Havoc In The Hidden Land
…And Finally: Black Bolt

Deal me in. This is my new trash watch for the season. Got some New Gods comics on standby in case this offends me too much.

HEHEHHE...
At that TCA panel, Loeb repeatedly scolded critics who took issue with one aspect of the show or another, insisting we were being unfair in judging an unfinished product. Amazingly, the version that will air on Friday night is worse than what the TCA got to see in the summer. With each passing minute, Inhumans feels slower, dumber, and emptier. Even the one thing the show does well at first — the CGI version of Lockjaw, so enthusiastic and helpful — gets screwed up before long. The show has no reason to exist except that Marvel wanted it to, by any means necessary.

I usually don't mind hate watching a show for a couple episodes but for some reason I'm having trouble mustering up the effort to waste my time with this.

I feel bad for the actors. They were probably so excited that they were becoming a part of the Marvel universe. Then it's Marvel TV. Then it's this.

I doubt I will do the entire series, but I will watch an episode or two for sure. Gotta see how ma boy Rheon is getting along. I still remember him back from his Mistfits days.

I saw this in Imax. It was really unintentionally funny.

The scene with Black Bolt accidently killing his parents is supposed to be serious and upsetting, but I just caught out loud at that moment. The spinning camera and the bloody portals of his parents are stupidly funny and totally ruin any seriousness of the moment.
