It's about time the only marvel character I care about gets his own show.

Matt must be rock hard about this. You know who I'm talking about.

it took me a while to stop irrationally hating this actor based on the character he played in walking dead lol. but he's been a great actor in everything I've seen him in and i hear great things about him as punisher. time to watch daredevil

His family isn't going to be too happy about this if he ends up method acting Punisher more often. I'm sure they will deal with it though XD

Good for us!

Hopefully they just start earmarking Ennis graphic novels, but I have a hard time believing they can do any of those justice without lifting the wafer thin restrictions on content that Marvel has.

Welcome Back Frank is do-able, though. But that's also kinda nuts. Punching out bears and shit.

Welcome Back Frank is the most obvious choice, except I feel they alreadyy kinda did that vibe on Jessica Jones with the weird neighbours. Ma Gucci would be fun tho, and completely doable, shes just some batshit crazy mob boss.

They have polar bears in the NY zoo right? :p

Just take each one of Ennis's 6 issue arcs from MAX and do them straight up as 3 episode arcs of the show. No need for a full season big bad, doesn't make sense for Punisher to string along a villain that long anyways.

Totally agree. They could learn from the comics. Instead of having one central storyline for an entire season, break it up into smaller arcs.

Gotham does it right. They have multiple layers of storyline without having to stretch one central theme. Other superhero shows could learn a lot from Gotham's format.

I agree, but again, I'm not sure with the (silly) restrictions Marvel has in place for its output that you can properly adapt that shit.

And I don't know that I want the writers to attempt entirely original stories either, although that might be the easiest way forward considering the constraints they have to work with.

Greg Rucka's run would lend itself well to TV, I think.

As much as I like MAX I don't know that I would want to see 30-something Frank doing stories that in many ways hinge on him being 60.

Plus Rucka's run has Big Boss Punisher + Rachel:

Great news! I thought we'd probably get this, but it's nice to see it confirmed. Jon is fantastic in the role and I can't wait to see more.

Great news! Me and my wife called it the moment he showed up in season 2 of Daredevil and fucking killed it as Punisher. Such an amazing performance.

Netflix is becoming a real powerhouse with these Marvel shows, as long as the quality remains as high as it's been with DD seasons 1 and 2, and Jessica Jones (I loved that one too; very different and super dark compared to the other shows).

I'm not very hype for this. The Punisher in my opinion is best in small doses, I'm not sure I'd be able to take a whole series.

Also, this is absolutely going to be a Welcome Back Frank inspired thing.

The potential is high but the writing still needs to be good. The crime genre certainly has deep roots and there's endless variety and content to use, but TV history has mostly dealt with cops and PI's instead of vigilantes. Plus there's the rest of the Marvel universe to use beyond just "normal" crime.

I don't think there is going to be anything especially groundbreaking, but there is more than enough crime variety and story possibilities to maintain a Punisher series for a few successful seasons.

I started liking him after watching the Wolf of Wall Street; but yeah, I was in the same boat as you.
I've seen daredevil season 2 around 3 times.
