Everyone has only just begun looking for this, you wont find much in the way of numbers on a worldwide scale. I believe it was this happening in NYC that brought it to the attention of the world.

Yeah but it’s like this. Let’s say there’s a computer virus and the primary thing it does is delete your hard drive. Everyone is worried about it and paying close attention. This goes on for a few months with millions of people getting the virus and many drives being deleted.
Then after months, a comparatively insignificant number people report their computers caught fire but this somehow went unreported all this time. Would you consider that a real concern or would you think that in the grand scheme it is relatively minor?
I wouldn’t dispute that this is real or anything. I would just say this is not something the general public needs to be concerned about. It’s more a thing pediatricians need to look for.

For now, this thing is out in the wild and mutating rapidly. It already has massive permanent damage in a fraction of survivors. It is worrisome that it could mutate for the worse.
That's the kind of stuff I worry about, at first it almost did not affect anyone under 60. But it might be changing, that's if it was caused by covid.
I guess that depends on how clustered they were, if it is distributed throughout a large area it is rare, if most cases are within a small area it could be a new more lethal strain.
We need even more data, it might be throughout NYC or perhaps clustered in a small region of NYC suggesting a new strain.

You should do some reading on viral mutation. These concerns aren’t really grounded in reality. Viruses generally mutated to become much less dangerous over time. Read up on it if it’s something you’re genuinely concerned about. This multi system inflammatory response is seen with other viruses and is a result of immune system response in select people.

generally but not always. Already they said there was a newer strain in europe that was potentially more deadly. This virus has asymptomatic transmission for long periods of incubation. Edit: As is it is more infectious than the flu and also deadlier than the flu and not just seasonal but likely year round as it can spread not just in cold but in hot climates.

This is the kind of rumor mill nonsense that causes nothing but irrational fear. I hope you’re not one of the people going on and on about believing in science.

Got a chance to speak with my dad again, and while he still keeps recovering, his doctor tells him he cannot go back to work until all his symptoms are gone.
I haven't even asked what my mom will do but I'm assuming she isn't returning to work yet either. Can't blame her since the Retirement homes are the death traps for this stuff.
I also saw the army was there.

Let’s just say more bad things happen in Wales. Hygiene in some hospitals is very poor, fairly basic operations go awry far more than elsewhere in the uk, etc. Something is deeply structurally wrong in the Welsh NHS.Why? Full of Attractive Sheep?

Good point. Perhaps they need to offer the positions to better Doctors with a little more money to move there to improve the situation. I always expected there to be standards across all NHS groups to be honest.
Although, quite related but....I feel like the NHS let one of my family members down as they messed up Cancer treatment and never admitted their mistake, so although I clap for the NHS in general, I sometimes don't like how they do things when they fuck up.

I think he's just pissed at the reporters taking off their masks.
Also if anyone wants a reason for wearing a mask, you may be asymptomatic and infect other people. Keyword is "may". In this case the point of wearing a mask is to reduce the risk of the virus spreading. I have no idea about the gun comment though as I am not an American, that one makes no sense to me as a retort.

I own a couple concession stands and a guy that works one of them keeps asking to open up. It's legal to do so. I basically told him he can at his own discretion. I don't feel great about it because he'll be working in high traffic areas. He told me he knew the risk and he didn't have a choice.
Anyone have any ideas how I can keep him as safe as possible? I bought masks, sanitizer. He's always had gloves.

Patients found in the northern provinces of Jilin and Heilongjiang appear to carry the virus for a longer period of time and take longer to recover, as defined by a negative nucleic acid test, Dr Qiu Haibo, one of China's top critical care doctors, told state television on Tuesday (May 19).
Cases in the north-east also appear to be taking longer than the one to two weeks observed in Wuhan to develop symptoms after infection, and this delayed onset is making it harder for authorities to catch cases before they spread, said Dr Qiu, who is now in the northern region treating patients.
"The longer period during which infected patients show no symptoms has created clusters of family infections," said Dr Qiu, who was earlier sent to Wuhan to help in the original outbreak.
Some 46 cases have been reported over the past two weeks spread across three cities - Shulan, Jilin city and Shengyang - in two provinces, a resurgence of infection that sparked renewed lockdown measures over a region of 100 million people.
Scientists still do not fully understand if the virus is changing in significant ways and the differences Chinese doctors are seeing could be due to the fact that they're able to observe patients more thoroughly and from an earlier stage than in Wuhan.
When the outbreak first exploded in the central Chinese city, the local healthcare system was so overwhelmed that only the most serious cases were being treated. The north-east cluster is also far smaller than Hubei's outbreak, which ultimately sickened over 68,000 people.
Still, the findings suggest that the remaining uncertainty over how the virus manifests will hinder governments' efforts to curb its spread and re-open their battered economies. China has one of the most comprehensive virus detection and testing regimes globally, and yet is still struggling to contain its new cluster.
Researchers worldwide are trying to ascertain if the virus is mutating in a significant way to become more contagious as it races through the human population, but early research suggesting this possibility has been criticised for being overblown.

As for the virus being “different”, I think I’ll wait for a country I respect to tell me of any significant changes or mutations to the virus. Forgive if I’m skeptical of the place that said people couldn’t give this to each other at all in the middle of fucking January.

1. Operating a CNC machine while nobody is nearby
2. Calling customers from my desk with nobody nearby, cuz, ya know...don't wanna get our customers sick by breathing thru the phone, amirite?
