To conclude, as I see it, America is going to have a massive problem because years of "don't trust the fake media" by Trump created hundreds of thousands of people who think "it's blown out of proportion" (at best) to "this is a hoax" (at worst), who are going to spread the virus to uncontainable numbers.

Just a thought, could it be that the responsibility here lies with the media being absolutely awful? If you were to compare the UK's press conferences with the US ones you'd see for instance in the UK journalists mostly trying to figure out the details and maybe find the holes in policy, where in the US the goal is more to sensationalize and accuse Trump of racism or carry out some kind of sting/gotcha. This follows years of shrill wailing and screaming about every little thing that maybe has led the public to stop trusting them. Just a thought but I'd be curious to see if you can see any merit in that.

I went to order some random food on amazon, none of the “typical” hoarded items that people usually go for during crises. And so much shit was out of stock. Don’t fucking tell me all of it is because of the coronavirus. I just wanted to order some fucking pretzels and some chocolates.

??????????? Well what's the point of lessening restrictions if more people will die??? Fuck that noise lol.

That video is super fucking weird.
I get why. They can’t just lock everyone up for six months. So I think the idea is. They can’t stop people getting the virus. But they can hopefully control the spread and give themselves a fighting chance. If everyone got it at once then fatalities would be insane. But if they try to make so they can treat those that need it and slow the incoming critically ill it won’t overload the hospitals. Plus hopefully with it getting warmer etc. The virus may die out. Anyone infected who got over it should isolate. Then hopefully some people are immune and can then go back to work etc.

what’s difficult is no plan they will suggest won’t have an element of playing with human life. Unless a vaccine is found right now that is safe.

Yeah I feel like basically everything uses more. Even low res youtube would use more, wouldn't it? I always thought online gaming was just sending and receiving very small packets of info about inputs and positions and shit.

I've been downloading some stuff on Steam overnight (eg off-peak hours) and using the backup facility to put it on a big fat drive I ordered from Amazon so I can easily switch games if the internet gets slowed down at all later. That's prepping.

Physical copies of games don't help when you have to download 100GB patches (yes Modern Warfare I'm looking at you)
Yeah, and then you need to download a 100gb patch every once in a while too. I spent more time downloading patches for that game than actually playing it. It is completely ridiculous how you need to have around 250gb of free space to download a patch for that game. I remember once it asked me to download a new seasonal update, which was around 100 gigs, and it said I didn't have enough room to perform the update despite having about 190 gigs free. Absolutely ridiculous. I had to remove a ton of games just to play MW. I couldn't take that insanity anymore so I deleted it a few months back.

Well this didn't age well.

Even though they are partially responsible for thousands of deaths in Italy, it was totally worth it to stick it up to that Orange Man!

That’ll be because they download it in compressed form and extract it meaning you need at least double the size of the file. Of course if they split it into batches the compression wouldn’t be quite as good but it’d help a fucktonne (get 1, extract, delete, next).

Yeah, I know, it just bothers me is all.

This way of thinking killed over 4k italians so far...
Well this didn't age well.

That movement was right, and it happend because people started insulting and spitting at random Chinese people in the streets, even though they never been to China in fucking years and they had nothing to do with all of this. (we have some big chinese communities in 2/3 cities) They avoided even chinese restaraunts. It would be the same thing if you were to treat like shit the italians who live abroad but never have been back home during the virus, only because of their nationality. (and I hear this is happening in Germany)

It wasn't to be cucks to evil China, or to stick it up to Trump(what does that have anything to do with this?), it was just for human decency.

People should stop the false narrative about Italy "hard, because old".
It leads to people below 50 thinking "oh, so it's only dangerous for oldies", which is bulshit, 22% of hard cases in US hospitals are 22-40 y.o.

I don't see the difference in trajectory between Italy vs most countries (note that scale is logarithmic, linear raise means it's expenential):

Even though they are partially responsible

No, they are not. The same way you are not partially responsible for whatever shit your government does or what your neighbour does. People are only responsible for their own acts as we are individuals. The moment you start talking about "they" versus "us" everything goes to shit.

Unfortunately, rough times bring out the worst of the human side, from hoarding in supermarkets to insulting chinese people or trump supporters whose relation to the problem is zero.

Maybe if we were not that hostile to one another, no nation would make biological weapons in research labs as all the well-known superpowers do.

Let's be better than them.

I'm wondering how Russia is handling this whole thing. No numbers from what I see.

I had to work next to someone all day today who still thinks this is just a hoax by the democrats. I don't get it. There is a few of them that I have to work with but he is the last holdout that is making it hard to not escalate into a verbal argument. The constant mocking is becoming an issue, anyone else have to deal with douche bags like that? I have some auto immune issues as does 2 other co workers.

Sorry you have to deal with a douchebag ideologue. I've got one I work with who argues that "The real danger of this thing is the President calling it a Chinese virus! Racism is not ok!"

Yet...thousands of deaths = ok? Truly staggering logic.

Ideologues gonna ideologue.

Most efforts to tackle the outbreak took place in late January, weeks after Wuhan ophthalmologist Dr Li Wenliang tried to warn about the mystery disease on December 30. He was among eight people who were punished by police on January 1 for spreading “rumours” about the virus.

The Public Security Bureau made Li sign a letter stating that he had made “false comments” and had “severely disturbed the social order.” He died last month of the disease, aged 34, prompting widespread outrage in China.

According to the New York Times, China also ignored offers of help in January from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.

These MFers.

Let them burn in hell.

Tries to save people, gets censured and (probably) killed by the State. Sounds about right for China.

I still think that the high smoking rates in Europe (Especially Italy and France) are the biggest reason for the high death toll.

There was a video going round of a young UK woman in critical condition telling people to stop smoking, I assume because she was also a heavy smoker.

Smoking has nothing to do with coronavirus

Smoking caused lung cancer not coronavirus infection

Two separate disease

You know that heavy smoking reduces your lung capacity, right? Cancer is just the end game.

My smoker friends can't even walk up stairs without getting out of breath.......... How do you think these people will cope with pneumonia? (They won't).

I'm living in a world, where on the news channels, they are actually playing instructional videos of how to wash your fucking hands.

We are at the event horizon of stupidity.

It might come as surprise but you'd be utterly astounded about just how bad some peoples personal hygiene is. It's a mistake to assume everyone had good role models in their life to teach them basic principles.
