I love being able to jack my mouse up to 3200 DPI for the planet scanning.
I recommend anyone on PC that has a mouse capable do this.:D

Samara's is also different and awesome for that same reason. And Grunt's is

Yeah, well, there's that. :lol

I suppose I appreciated that they dropped all pretenses and just let you have it at in that one.

I love the sounds that LOKI Mechs make. They die so quickly and there are so many of them, it's like a vacation. Too bad I just had to kill a stream of like 50 of them without being able to move. What is this, CoD4? I ran out of ammo on two guns.

Someone share my pain. :(
I was sitting at home all morning waiting for Mass Effect 2 to come, but the only thing I got was bills. FML

Now I have to wait till Monday :((

Heh, first thing that came to my mind as well. Hit my 4000 dpi button and just zoom around those planets looking and listening for noises I want. Makes finding stuff a breeze...still, I'd rather be driving the Mako :(.

Haha, the random dialogue in this game are great. I love talking to Joker and Mordin every mission. Garrus also has some pretty hilarious lines.

-Hey Shepard, nobody asked me about these things before. So fuck you, and thanks for asking.:lol :lol :lol

This game is great, so much more improved than ME1. I got 12h in, seems like there's still a lot do to (just done with
Horizon
).

Also, the writing was improved 10x, now the situation is more complicated with Shepard and Cerberus, etc.

A little confused on how/where to pick up side missions. I just
recruited my last team member, and am almost done fighting the collectors with Kaiden.
Can someone enlighten me?

Sorry for being that annoying guy and bumping my own post.

Anyone?

Scanning really does suck. It's bad enough the upgrades are few and far between, but then you have to scan for an hour to find enough materials to actually use them.

They need to get the loot aspect at least partially back for ME3.

Side quests usually involve you scanning uncharted planets, and if there's an anomaly on it, Edi informs you as such. Side quests often chain into other side quests as well, eg you might find a new location for the continuation of a side quest.

you'll need to buy star maps (in Illium) to open even more galactic pathways and such.

I don't know why people find scanning so bad, I just didn't obsess with mineral hunting that much, only hunted when a specific upgrade I wanted was available, and even then only mined in the "Rich" planets, they often have mineral spots which give off in the thousands at once. Nothing to it.

The story and dialogue in this game i unprecedented in my opinion. For a fully voiced game at least (Nothing beats the characters/side quests from the old Bioware games). This is the first game in years that makes me want to come back and play it multiple times just to use different party combinations.

So do I start buy visiting unexplored planets? thanks.

Way easier.

I haven't got to the end of ME2 yet, but the ease of ME1 has to be class dependant. My Infiltrator kicked the shit out of final Saren.

That's awesome. You know, say what you will about ME2 not having as much unprompted party banter as Dragon Age, but when it does pop up, it's so much better. If only because Shepard has a voice actor, and can join in on some of it.

My favourite bit so far, taking Garrus along on Mordin's loyalty quest (paraphrased):

Garrus: I don't like fighting in a hospital. This isn't going to be fun.
Shepard: What kind of places are fun to fight in?
Garrus (without missing a beat): Gardens, electronics shops. Antique stores, but only if they're classy.

In fact, I would play the shit out of a game that was just all-Garrus, all the time.

You can't really get any easier than the last boss of ME1. I think both bosses kind of hit the rock bottom in difficulty. If you have fingers, you'll win, even if you're playing on Insanity.

Last mission:
Yeah, I was able to end the last mission with no casualties - on my second attempt. I lost Mordin for whatever reason(I just noticed it after the credits, there was no dying scene or simething like that) when I left him to secure the door with the others. On my second try I assigned him to escort the staff back to the normandy - now everyone survived. Other decisions:
Specialist: Legion
Action Team 1 Leader: Garrus
My first Team: Tali and Mordin
Action Team 2 Leader: Miranda
My Team 2: Tali and Thane
Specialist: Samara
Final Team: Miranda and Thane (Awesome Team for the Last Battle because they both have warp, which is extreamly usefull againt the last boss, plus me and Thane can blow the easy enemies from the plattforms)

And I blew the place up of course.

Thane is awesome btw. I want a Thane Spin-Off.

I personally like it, although it isn't really fun. But it makes sense, it matches the atmosphere of the game, and it gives me some kind of explorer vibe.

All four classes I played kicked the shit out of final Saren. Vanguard on Normal, Soldier on Veteran, Engineer on Hardcore and Insanity, Adept on Easy and Easy (What? I was just rushing through at that point!). Add that to your Infiltrator and "class dependent" may mean "anything but Sentinel".

EDIT: OK, maybe I shouldn't be including the Easy ones. And Adepts were pretty stupidly weak in the first game.

Well .. how ever easy you guys found Saren .. based on my experience the ME2 end-fight was way easier ..

It's boring as shit, but it doesn't take more than a couple minutes of doing it to get whatever you need, and there's probably a good 3-4x or more what you'd need to research everything, so you never really have to go over the galaxy with a fine-toothed comb.

I wouldn't have minded it at all if they'd made it a little more interactive, the way you can find anomalies through audio cues as well as just following the little white line. I wish there was a way to trade in resources for credits, though. When you've got 60,000 Palladium and nothing to spend it on, with a bunch of stuff you still can't afford to buy left in stock at stores, it's a little grating.

Take your mouse.
Put it at the top left corner of your screen.
Turn DPI to like 200.
Drag it allll the way down to the bottom.
Move it 10 pixels to the right.
Drag it allll the way up to the top.
Repeat until alll the way across your screen.

Kind of like what scanning is except on 360, it rumbles when you hit a spike and on PC apparently you can jack up the DPI on your mouse to speed it up a bit.

Another analogy: pixel hunting in adventure games with no visual stimulation.

It's not THAT bad, you don't HAVE to scan every inch of the map .. just press and release the LT and hover over area's quickly, you'll get the readings and rumble even if you're near any area with minerals on it if not directly over it so it's not a hard thing to pin point locations with high concentration.

That would have been sweet. When I first started it, I thought to myself, "No way are we supposed to just do this randomly."

I'm the kind of gamer who is kinda obsessed with collecting though. I almost went and got every single treasure chest in Assassins Creed 2. Even though you don't get anything for it. Got all the feathers too. I just couldn't stand it if there were still icons on my map that I could clear.

So will this suck for me?

It'll suck if you're talking about scanning and collecting EVERY POSSIBLE RESOURCE in the galaxy, that's completely un-needed .. getting enough materials so you can buy every upgrade available, that's a lot more do-able.

It's definitely not better than DA banter and that game had like 3 hours of it

This isn't a collection thing you can win. Unless you set some sort of goal for yourself like 200,000 of each resource or get every planet to "depleted" there is no stopping point. At least with the treasure chests there was a map and you got a sense of completion out of it when there were no more to be found. You can't "complete" planet scanning, it's just a resource.

All right, I think I'll be safe then.

allthough I could get every planet depleted.......hmm

ME2 is a bit of an odd duck. It is, in most of the important ways, LEAGUES ahead of ME1. But in some other ways, namely a few it has no reason AT ALL to be, its dumbed down and inferior to ME1.

Im only 6 hours into the game, but I already have the feeling that Im going to end up liking it about as much, not more, not less, than the first game. Each have their own skillset, and I believe that ME3 could be the perfect title for me if they refine all that they've done right in ME2, while bringing back/beefing up a bit of the skill/levelling up depth and exploration from ME1.

SOOOOOO glad its almost the weekend. Ive only been able to play 2 hours each day so far, and Im really looking forward to having a day to sink 10 hours into it.

Personally, 40 hours into ME2, I feel all the changes have been for the better and will probably never want to play the first game again (a game I sunk 120 hours into). To me, the changes/consolidations/removals ARE refinements, and the only thing truly removed was the Mako, which I hated anyway.

the 'dumbed down' elements in ME2 are great, I reckon.

the guys behind the game obviously realised what most people were playing the game for, and it wasn't for the shitty item management and in-depth leveling systems. It was for the dialogue, the choices, the characters and the presentation. It takes some serious balls to say 'you know what? people didn't like the inventory/mako/gimped (unleveled) weapons, so fuck it, we don't need any of that shit. our combat system wasn't that great either, so let's uproot that and fix it as well. here's what was good about Mass Effect 1 with out any of the poorly implemented lip-service to our previous games."

there's room for games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect to coexist, and I'm glad Hudson and the rest of his team realised it.

Anyone happen to have a male pure renegade save for the PC? I've had a look on that save database and there seems most of the male renegades are a bit of a mix. I already went about creating my own balanced and paragon saves, but I just can't put myself through 3rd time.

There does seem to be a few pure renegade female saves on the site, but not so much for male characters. It would be greatly appreciated.

People need to go back and PLAY Mass Effect One, the loot sucked, if you think the loot In 2 is worse, really, theres something wrong with you. The loot in ME1 Didn't do shit but slow you down, I played on PC and 360 versions, the inventory was fucking MESS on both. People looking at this shit with nostalgia should go back and play it. it added NOTHING to the game other than tedium.

With that said, I do wish there were a few more guns in the game, I've got all the dlc other than the Dr Pepper shit, and at most theres 3 of each type of gun, other than heavy weapons.

A little drunk at near 10pm on friday here, so be easy on me people, before your rip me apart for my opinion. :D
