Mass Effect 3 Face Import Bug ME1 > ME2 > Nope ME3

Dev update on the Bioware forums:

Chris Priestly said:
Ok, I have what I hope is some good news.

We have fixed the issue of faces not correctly importing into Mass Effect 3. It will be included as part of the next Mass Effect 3 patch.

The not completely good news is that I do not yet have a confirmed date for when the patch will be available. A new patch gets heavily tested by BioWare, EA, Microsoft and Sony before it can be released to the public. We all want to be sure that it fixes the issues it is supposed to fix and doesn't start any new issues (this is called testing or certification testing ). If a patch fails during testing, it is sent back, fixed again and retested until it passes. Then it is released to gamers. Until we know that the patch has passed certification testing, I don't want to give even a rough idea of the date, to prevent disappointment should it need further testing.

So I'm sorry I don't have the full answer you all want and are waiting for yet. When I can give you the date when the patch will be available I will.

Haven't even started ME3 single player because of this crap which should have been fixed before launch. Now I wont probably play the single player until they fix this ending snafu...I'm so confused.

Dev update on the Bioware forums:

Hey, at least it'll be free.

Assuming the ending doesn't completely destroy my will to live or ever play Mass Effect again, someday in the future when I do a straight-through 1->2->3 all-content playthrough this will hypothetically be nice to have.

What's a certification? Release that thing through Origin this instant.

Bioware : "OK!"
K.Jack : "Yay, i got my ME1/ME2 face now, let's start a new game!"
*Cannot complete the Mars mission due to an unfornate new bug that wasn't found and fixed since there was no certification for the patch*
K.Jack : "Nooooooo"
Bioware : *Trollface.jpg*

Well, you do know that the game also has to go through the certification before its release? And yet there are still bugs. ;)

Wow, I tried to recreate my ME 1 & 2 Shepard with the creator and Bioware really fucked up the noses and hair color.

Brown hair appears to be black and all the nostrils look like he has jawbreaker candy jammed up them...

I got all the other features really close to my original except the nose and evidently the hair looks brown in the creator but comes out near slick black...

I didn't think the face import was a big deal until I saw Bioware fucked up ME3's creator by excluding certain facial features/hair color(s)...

MS/Sony cert - if they kick the patch back due to issues, they'd have to fix and address them and resubmit. I'm guessing they're holding off on the PC patch because if they do end up having to fix something, they want the PC patch to get the same fixes.

Does it matter if I play ME2 through digital or disc? Because I can't find a new copy of ME2 around me

What platform?

PC should be fine, as far as PS3 I have no idea. I know that PS3 can be a little bitchy when it comes to saves in general. 360 and PC can migrate or edit saves relatively easily.

Yeah, even with the fix they're doing for the face import issue, it's not going to magically create new/edit current hairstyles, features and colors to match the ones that were in ME1/ME2.

Lucky for me the old hairstyle I used was included in ME3. I got my ME3 Shepard to be damn near spot on with my original Shepard except now he's a ginger, which looks good most of the time except in really bright sections... then he looks like Ginger Shepard... with candy jammed up his nose.

so they released the patch.... and completely ruined the most important feature of a face - eyes.

and yes, I called her after the sort of wine.

Yeah, eyes are noticably different on my Femshep too. Nose is a bit off too I think. I'm assuming ME1->ME2 imports did a straight import of facial geometry, and here they instead tried to match it to the closest features available in the editor.

I used the fix detailed earlier in the thread and my facial codes are mostly the same, they differ slightly in cheekbones, ear orientation and jaw width.

I booted it up last night and imported my face from ME2. The hair style was wrong for some reason, but other than that it looks about the same.

Of course then I got the menu loading glitch introduced by the patch...

Man some of your custom characters are way worse looking than the default ones anyway...besides Obama which is badass

I should probably take some shots of Obama Shepard in the cool cutscenes of ME3, but im too busy playing the multiplayer and Xenoblade to bother playing him. :(

it's not about looking better, it's about being the character I made to play a role. If I wanted to play some linear shooter with a default protagonist I would fire up Gears of War. Mass Effect still resembles RPG even though they work hard on hiding this.

on topic: I think the shape of eyes is still the same but they removed some makeup and eyebrows are a bit different. Anyway my Shepard resembles himself/herself much more than all characters from previous games except Liara and Wrex so I'm not dissapointed.

I don't think the importer worked anywhere near as good as that of ME2's.

It imports a really weird-looking character, that after some minor tweaks has the potential to look like the imported character. However, it's still not at all like him.

Left: Import using the website method plus several tweaks.
Middle: Import using the game, with some minor changes.
Right: ME2.

The one I created with the website resembles my Shep more than the direct import.
