Mass Effect 3: Leviathan Trailer [Out Now]

for all intent and purposes ... they could make a post game dlc(dont think it) because they have decided that players "think what is right" can be wrong ala that whole DAO to DA2 fiasco with so and so not dieing because the creator decided to retcon that action to fit his needs and made your choice completely irrelevant

I am not excited for this which sucks. I want to be, I used to love everything mass effect. I thought 3 was a great game but that ending. It has less to do with the actual content but the way the entire internet reacted towards it makes me throw up a little in my mouth.

Yeah I know it is incredibly dumb to say the internet ruined my love for a franchise but seriously, the month after that game was released was INSANE. it was pure batshit crazy over the outcry, arguing and and attacks at the gaming media and other members on a 5 minute sequence. Was it an overreaction? Hell yeah.

It's totally dumb to say that the internet ruined your enjoyment. It makes no sense!

You loved the game, you enjoyed your time with it. The opinion of anonymous faces on the internet should not matter.

Everything outside the game is just pure venom, I can't play it anymore. I am disappointed at the ending but I can't not think about mass effect without thinking about its ending and the internet-rage over it.

I enjoyed RE5, loved ME3 and don't mind to play some rounds COD.

Boy, if I cared about internet-rage I wouldn't fucking touch videogames anymore. Guess you didn't like Mass Effect enough if the opinion of a bunch of strangers changed your mind on it.

Not trying to be snarky or anything, though.

EDIT: And I really liked Splinter Cell Conviction as well, I'm pretty sure somewhere out there might have an aneurysm reading this.

More or less.

There's also the point of urgency and scale. The scale of the game is a galactic threat. Any DLC that is less than that is going to feel like a downgrade. The Extended Cut DLC expanded on the story in the only way that really mattered: forward. The galactic threat is over. But there's not much room to escalate the threat when the Reapers are here already, and there's a desperate, but plausible plan in the works to counter them. I mean, what more do you need?

ME2 had it easier with making DLC relevant as it was a more personal story. Lair of the Shadow Broker was the Liara DLC. Which was perfectly fitting for the game. A friend is in trouble, go help her. Like you did with so many other characters. Arrival then ended it all with a reminder that from here on out, it's all about the Reapers. Setting up ME3.

So any story DLC that isn't about the direct path to defeating the Reapers is going to feel like a bit of a detour. Even Javik seemed a bit of a detour, but he made up for it by being a a squadmate. Unless you actually recruit Leviathan, making Shepard's unlikely alliance even that more unlikely, I just don't see why Shepard should bother. Same with Omega. He has a fleet, he has a plan, it's time to take back Earth. Leviathan and Omega? Yeah, it can wait. the Reaper invasion? It can't.

But then the game ends, rather definitively. And guess what? With the
Reapers defeated
, then Omega is safe, and whatever Leviathan was is irrelevant.

Bioware basically painted themselves into a DLC corner with the way ME3 ends. ME2's open ending was a much better starting point for DLC.

Good points. So good in fact that it kinda makes my steadfast interest in this dlc and the future of the series seem a bit irrational, if I stand back and think about it.

The one hope that keeps the encroaching sense of apathy I have over all of the upcoming dlc at bay is that characters like Leviathan will be well-written. We shall see.

Leviathan should have been in the main game. He was being hinted at all the way from ME1, and would have made a much better Reaper-defeating thing than the arse-pull Crucible.

Really not sure if I'll get this. It does seem a bit pointless, but I do like Reaper Doom Voice...

Laidlaw didn't write the script, that was Gaider. And there's also a healthy dose of EA rushing dev. I don't mean to be picky - but I am - and when you talk about "the creator deciding" as if it's just one guy in his mom's basement, that's kind of a pet peeve of mine.

As for ME3, yeah, you're sort of right, Walters and Hudson locked themselves in a room, but that was only because nobody above them stopped them.

There's no one creator of a video game. So when you act like there is, it doesn't make your indignation sound good.

Is it going to be available early tomorrow or is it possible we might have to wait until some stupid hour like 7pm PST?

So I originally thought that 3 tainted my view of the series, but then I went back played a little of 1, 2 and really gave 3 another shot and realized that yes, the ending wasn't that great, but everything else so good it's worth going back and playing and enjoying everything all 3 games have to offer. I would say if you were a fan before, you can be again, just go back and play, you'll be sucked in again.

I'm really curious to see what the underwater segments are like. I hope it's not just walking around and seen from the Atlas mech's first-person view. There probably won't be any combat in those segments because that would require that Bioware actually design new enemies.

DLC didn't stop them to design the Shadow Broker boss, hell even a whole "never seen before" car chase sequence, in ME2. :P

But yeah, i'm just assuming that we'll fight an army of Atlas underwater or Cerberus troops equipped with Iron Boots stolen from Link.

Those were different times. I'm not so optimistic.

Regardless, I will see for myself tomorrow.

yeah, lol I just played the extended cut and am now doing another play through. The extended cut really answered a lot of my concerns of the ending.

Leviathan times.

PC - Between 11am-12pm MDT (-6 hours GMT)
Xbox 360 - Between 2-3am MDT
PS3 - Between 4-5pm MDT

Nothing at the moment.

This shit is going to have achievements attached to it but they are not updated on xbox.com yet. This sucks.

"It was amazing!!!" - Ign
"The best rpg experience in a long time, as expected from EA and Bioware" - Gamespot
"Fuck it"- 4chan

Hehe, well of course I'll read GAF, but I generally disagree with most of them about ME3.

I like the game quite a bit, even with its faults.

I'm looking forward to EatChildren's impressions. Personally, I'm more concerned with the quality of it rather the length. If it's Shadow Broker good, I'll be there day one. If it's OverLord/From Ashes good - eh maybe, etc.

All this talk of DLC made me realize i never bought the ME1 ones. I heard Pinnacle Station is shit, but what about the other one?

I bought all of the DLC for ME1/2 + collector's editions and Dragon Age 1/2 + all DLC oh god this will never end.

One day we will be rid of this cruel developer. Only then will we know peace.

Pinnacle Stations is pure shit (and yes, I bought and completed it 100%). Bring Down The Sky is one of my favourite missions in the series, and almost perfectly represents how story focused planet exploration missions can work very well. Earlier on I expected Mass Effect 2 to follow the BDtS design model.

Bring Down the Sky was alright... definitely one of the better ones.

What's funny about that one is that it has almost the exact same storyline as Arrival with the Batarians.

Pinnacle Station is below shit.

Pretty much... what could have been.
