Mass Effect: Andromeda - EA/Origin Access trial coming March 16th - 10 hour trial

The codexes aren't voiced anymore.

I'm legit upset about this.

Yeah this is disappointing, but understandable to an extent. The Codex is many times larger than it was previously. It's an inordinate amount of text to have VA for. If I recall correctly not everything in ME codex was voiced either. At least the very least in ME2/3 many of the newer, less important, additions to the codex were not voiced.

Played quite a few hours on Xbox One today, game is fun and looks really nice, set aside some weird facial expressions.

I actually thought the performance on the Xbox One became a tad smoother turning grain and chromatic abomination off. I'm guessing turning off the latter helps slightly like it did when turning it off in The Division back when I played it on the PS4.

Any word on a post-launch patch to fix the horrible character customization? I can't believe how terrible it is, it's appalling even by last gen standards. I'm not too picky when it comes to character customization normally but the character customization in this game is so bad I was forced to use default Ryder. It's 2017 Bioware I should be able to make a black male character with a fade, ME3 let me do this for chrissakes how come I can't do this in ME:A?

Other than terrible character customization and weird animations the game is actually good. Combat, exploration, and graphics are really good. My squad mates are already growing on me and I like the story so far.

Do elaborate.

What's good about it?

Like, what are this game's redeeming qualities?

What's good about it? For me, pretty much everything.

Graphics - Amazing, HDR 4K is so rare on a PC game, love it!
Combat - Fun and Fast, best in series: easy.
Dialogue - Natural feeling and more organic than previous ME games.
Story - Slow burn, but starts to heat up at the 10 hour gate, it's very good so far.
Characters - Likable and unique: Liam is the bro, Cora is definitely bae.
World Building - Mysterious and grand, there are many layers here.
Voice Work - Mostly great, the odd oddball though:
Jarun Tann
is amazing.
Music - Phenomenal, maybe my favourite equal with ME1 in this department.
Sound design - awesome: ambient chatter and such is just right.
Lore - Loads of it, lots of cool tie ins with the ME:T too.

In my 10 hours, I never once thought "that's some horrendous animation" either, it's all blown out of proportion, meme riots incited beyond reality.

The game honestly feels like it could be a 100 hour epic at this rate, so much mystery too....no I'll be jonesing out for a week: god damn it! haha.

I do hope this scanning of glyphs and then using those terminals isn't going to be a common thing because I didn't find it particularly interesting or fun. And so far it's already two of the main quests doing exactly that on Eos.

Aliens still look dope as hell. Maybe should've had the main characters at the least be Asari instead of human since they have such trouble with humans.
Really like Sara Ryder now though

I'll give you the music :D The music is great.

But man, I can totally and easily stop caring about the animations, but by no means is its awfulness exaggerated..

On a side note...Cora bae? Yeegh. I like that she's buff though.

The MP plays like absolute garbage on xbox one.

Framerate drops

Framepacing issues

frame stutter

Horrible input lag

And everything is so glitchy and janky like what, feels like an early alpha tbh

I was having fun dicking around in the multiplayer tutorial. The new mobility moves feel fantastic, the soft cover is kind of weird but everything else is very snappy and kinetic. Then I tried to play a couple rounds of multiplayer, both games I had to quit out because they were so choppy I couldn't even properly interact with the objective, everything was teleporting all over the place.

Hope they sort this out asap, tons of potential here but the netcode is just killing it for me. I think I'll save the rest of my hours for the campaign this weekend.

I should mention, playing on PC with a fast, wired connection.

There were primary and secondary entries in the original games and only the primary were voiced if I am remembering correctly.

Haha... well I guess we have different taste in women: she's stunning IMO.

The music is great isn't it: give the OST a burl, so relaxing :)

Nobody can help me with that glyph decryption? It's the only quest left now. I tried to find a pattern in it, i made sure none of the rows had the same glyph. I don't get it.....

Oh now I can't use the terminal anymore, what the hell.

I appreciate this write up, thanks.

9 hours left, just tried to make a custom Ryder, nothing pleases me. I mean fuck you can't even remove freckles from some of these models. Shittiest character creation ever.

On the plus side the game looks great and runs good for me but haven't got past the waking up section lol

I like the companion characters so far. I want to get to know them more...although I'm super suspicious of Cora because of a certain Jack Harper. The way the characters actually talk about them being the aliens and how they would react if they turned up on earth, fully armed, makes me think they could talk about some interesting story stuff...

I've played about 5 hours and I like what I've played so far. This is definitely a Mass Effect game. If those aren't your cup of tea, I don't think this will be any different.

Environments look good but characters are really inconsistent, and Female Ryder makes a lot of weird faces. Playing on PC with a 970 at 1080 with everything on high. Mostly 60 with some occasional drops. I haven't messed with the settings, I just let the game do it automatically. I figure I'll mess with that stuff when the game proper comes out.

The idea that they think it's okay to launch more options for the character creator after launch is laughable.

FFXV is rehashing and re-releasing a whole different chunk of the game that's not even DLC, just 'cause'.

I can't see how a CC addition or 2 is that crazy.

I don't think FFXV taking the trip to crazy town somehow invalidates ME:A's addressing the issue post-launch.

You literally create your character at the beginning of the game, and unless there's a 'Dark Emporium' DA2 equivalent, you're stuck with that character for the rest of the 40+ hour game.

To have additional options come into play, after the game's release at some indeterminable point, that might have altered your ability to make a character you like, or that looks more like you.....how is that not crazy?

This is how i feel after playing the game for 3 hours, what a boring game, like wtf Bioware, what did you do...

Still Day One because its Mass Effect and I don't want to believe that the game is shit so I'll play the thing entirely and judge at the end.

Have the characters been better as you play along? I've heard that they're not as interesting as the past's so far.

You should never use the "Yeah but that game does it worse!" argument.

Only played the SP for 2.5 hrs, but I really enjoyed it. And I was surprised that it looked pretty nice on the Xbox. I'll be playing Pro/4k, so I'm definitely holding off on furthering my xbox foray. The voice acting was fine, and while it did have some weird animations and dated looking facial expressions, the overall package was appealing. Liam is ridiculous though. The sequence where he was continuing to shoot the alien corpse was laughable. He had a few other terrible battle banter lines too.

The MP seemed like it would be fun, but I had horrible lag issues. Teleporting shit all over the place. I'll try that again today.

Has anyone tried running the game under 2 different origin accounts on PC?

I dont like feeling rushed so I'd rather mess around with 1 trial and then make progress in the other which would carry over when the game comes out.

In theory, can you just logout of origin then log in with a new account sign in and play the same game? Does it share the same install versus having to download the entire thing a second time?

Sending out a subpar character creator for a narrative-heavy third-person RPG and then say that you'll add extra features some time later on doesn't mesh well with how mainstream RPGs usually are released and how players expect to have the first taste of the experience and relation to a character be a fully realized one.

Hey guys,

I hope you're enjoying the game!
I have two problems.

Playing on PC. The first problem I had was that the game just booted to a black screen. I had to uninstall my mechanical keyboard drivers (Corsair Utility) to fix it.
After fixing it, I only had 8 hours instead of 10 to play of the trial. :<

Second problem is the ingame scanner. It's broken for me.
I just reached Habitat 7 (the first planet). An objective is to scan the enemy corpses but as soon as I try to open the scanner with down on the dpad, or "G", the scanner just instantly closes again.

Anybody know a fix for this? I would like to be able to use the scanner. I'm using DS4Windows with a PS4-controller via usb. Maybe it somehow double clicks? But "G" on the keyboard doesn't work either. I see the scanner come up for half a second then it immediately closes again.

Game looks and runs fantastic on my 1060 but this bug is making it hard for me to really get into it.

Thanks for reading and take care!

I replayed the original trilogy in preparation for this coming out.. and I'm still somehow disappointed in the graphics/faces on xb1.

I've only played about 45 minutes so I'm hoping that changes, tho. Its not looking good from the outset, and I kinda wanna go pc when it actually comes out, but I might just stick w this version since my gtx770 probably wouldn't do much better.

Slightly bummed out atm.
Imagine expecting good performance/graphics on xbone

If you want an actually good mass effect in the future though like me, you won't buy this unpolished turd. Send a message. Otherwise you're just going to keep getting whatever this is.

It's sudoku with alien symbols. the symbols can't repeat in the square, vertical and horizontal line.

https://youtu.be/FGs-pLmDd1s?t=7326

Goddamn I never actually played that myself. I might go look for a decryption key. Wonder where I'll find those.

By the way, does aiming feel slightly off for others? Almost as if there's input lag. Controlling the character also feel heavy, sluggish. Bit like Witcher 3 until they added the better option for movement.

Jesus

Something about that turian lady makes me want to consider her over girl with angry mom screaming to see the manager haircut

Not sure if want to bang, ok
Oh man. That's where I've seen that haircut before.

Multiplayer is still fun. I think the combat in this game is the best in the series, it's a tiny bit stiff but nowhere near as still and clunky as it felt in Mass Effect 3.

As for the main game, the faces and character models (minus the Kett) look awful, which is a shame considering how great everything else looks on the environment. Character creator is easily one of the worst out there, too, for an RPG like this.

Music is fine, I haven't hear anything beyond the main menu that's caught my ear.

The idea that they think it's okay to launch more options for the character creator after launch is laughable.
i guess at this point they know they've fucked up and are just saying anything to quell the inevitable backlash. If they had any sense at all they would release the improved CC in a day one patch.

Can't wait to find out more about him. He looks amazing.

His cutscene at the end of the tutorial level was really impressive. Minor spoilers in case you or others haven't seen it yet:
The complete absence of dialogue, and showcasing his emotions purely through animation, was probably the best thing I've seen in this game yet. I completely got what he was feeling without a word being spoken, in a game with dialogue so dodgy at times I often have NO idea what human characters are feeling even when they do speak :P
