So much information! I like what I'm hearing!

-Peebee: Asari squadmate shown in previous footage. Went off on her own after arriving on the Nexus and described as having a "bubbly personality". She's smart and not concerned with social norms and "niceties".

...

wut.

Everything sounds great except the combat wheel disappearing. Not a fan of that bit.

It is definitely the worst but it is still a great game IMO.

Oh, sure. Started my love for the franchise. But people need to stop putting it on a pedestal.

YOU need to stop.

Fall back, shooter guys.

ME1 was a shooter too, just a shit one with a bunch of godawful RPG mechanics bolted on. I liked the story and the writing, but the other two games (especially 3) massively improved on everything else.

No, it had the worst combat in the series, but the best atmosphere, tone, characters and insividual story, as well as actual role playing.

-Atmosphere: debatable. ME2 had a fantastic atmosphere.

-Tone: so subjective I can't even. The other games have different tones, not inferior ones.

-Characters: definitively wrong. Wrex was great, Ashley had her moments, everybody else was mediocre as fuck. ME2 crew was a massive improvement in every way.

-Story: if by this you mean "main plot," then sure. ME2 and ME3 had better sub-plots, though. Nothing touches Raioch and Tuchanka, or the ME2 squad missions.

-Roleplaying: you do this in all three games, and the RPG mechanics (i.e. skills, loadouts) are at their strongest in 3, so idk about that.

The only disappointing detail here is the fixed name for the protagonist. Kind of necessary though I think with a family.

Ehh it's the same as the original in that way. Your last name is Ryder, you can change the first name but everyone refers to you as Ryder anyway.

Just like Shepard was named John Shepard but you could change the first name.

...Yeah no...Mass Effect 1 is not only the best in the series, it's one of the best RPG's ever made.

I'd take ME1's stellar writing and clunky yet rewarding gameplay any day over ME2/3's boring gameplay and serviceable writing.
I personally think ME3 is the best in the series, with ME2 a close second. The gameplay and mechanics in 3 were just so much better. I had more fun playing it.

I think ME1 is significantly worse than the other two in almost every regard.

I'm not sure about the class system being gone. Sounds less RPG focused.

Doesn't sound less RPG focused to me, Instead of deciding on a class from the start, you decide how you want develop your character down the line. It is just a different system.

It's more similar to the witcher, where you can choose if you want to be more specialized in Sword, alchemy or Signs or a mix of all of them.

I misunderstood then, thought the first name was also fixed.

Wait, the asari's name is PeeBee?

PEEBEE!!!

No talk at all about RPG systems? That's a shame.

It sounds like its simplified even further without the different classes, and allowing respecs - plus without the story choices carrying forward sounds like it hampers replay value to me

still excited though, ME3 is the only MP game I like

I'm quite scared for this game, because of its potential. I'm afraid they're going to do a Fallout 4 and all you can do is shoot things while story and dialogue is paid lip service.

God I hope so much the characters won't be this tryhard edgy this time like in DA:I, but "Peebee who doesnt stick to social norms and niceties" doesn't inspire much confidence.
Also sad theres nothing on side mission quality.

ME1 has the worst characters by far. Garrus isn't even Garrus until ME2.
I remembered Mass Effect 1 so fondly.... Playing through it now, the Squad feels like an after thought (basicly a limited number of small variation talking options, no missions for most characters) and all the side missions are basicly the same 2 buildings with generic enemies and generic planet exploration. I also remember the Mako being fun (which it is) but my goodness does it control horribly. Campaign isn't as long as I remember either.

It saying all that, I still find myself pooring many hours into the game, as it just feels amazing to explore the planets and go around the galaxy. I vastly prefer ME2/3 but everyone is different!

Nothing about Cerberus. Good, very good.

Guess some of the team members at Bioware were able to reign in some of Mac Walters' shit ideas.

I love ME 1 more than any other RPG but I would never ever praise it's clunky (and unrewarding) gameplay.

And outside of a pretty cool main story (something the other 2 really lacked) I don't think it's writing is much better

Well, I never cared about Garrus that much so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tali, Liara, Wrex, Kaidan where all amazing on ME1 along with some of the other ones that appear on most of the side-missions.

Granted, I do liked all the cast members in ME2 and ME3.

The Tempest (Your Ship)
-Galaxy map returns but rather than piloting a mini ship on a map, it is more immersive, you select a planet, the game gives you sense of traveling towards that planet, and when you back out, you're immediately at your destination
-You don't pilot the ship manually, but it feels seamless as you go from planet to planet and see them from your bridge getting closer in the window
-They wanted a seamless experience from picking a planet to walking down to your cargo hold, hopping into the Nomad and landing on a planet. There is a landing sequence and you get off the ship. No more loading screens and instantly popping up on the surface of a planet.

Cool. But all this is just a very fancy loading screen tho, hehe.

I can't want for more information to streamline to us!!!!!

low key though
i think i might wait for the holiday 2017 release version for the scorpio. i'd just have to go dark for so many months that it'll be torture! unless they delay it as a holiday 2017 release! hahaaa!

Nice one Shinobi!

-The (much improved) Mako of ME1, the loyalty missions of ME2, the multiplayer of ME3

They would really have to improve it a LOT. I don't want to be driving around barren worlds, fighting the controls just to reach the same copy/paste pre-fab building again.

-Class system is gone; instead you have full access to abilities from all classes, you can mix and match skills from tech, soldier or biotics
-Goal is to allow players to try different approaches to combat without being locked in at the start
-However, you can still specialize once you invest enough points into a category of skills, you unlock a profile that can get you bonuses for your particular play style
-This is where class names like "Vanguard" (invest in combat and biotics) and "Adept" (invest in biotics) resurface

This all sounds great.

Liara and Tali, I can see liking them in ME1, but honestly they're just so much more interesting in 2 and 3.

Mass Effect 1 is a shooter though and not a good one at that. The item system is a mess as well, there are so many trash items and inventory management is a pain in the ass. I love the Mass Effect series, I played through ME1 about five times, the last run was fairly recently and it really does not hold up all that well. The mission design is fairly lackluster as well. It's easy to remember the high points but ME1 has a lot of problems.

Probably didn't want to design combat encounters around the player having access to a heavily armed vehicle. Can't blame them, tbh, though it's a bit disappointing.

Like why the fuck even bring it back then? Most of the fun was dealing with those big or heavily armored enemies.

The best of each then! Hope they capture the atmosphere of 1, the cast of 2 and the gameplay of 3.
