All signs point to the fact that they didn't even get to finish it, so I don't know if it counts as "something to show" in anything other than the most literal sense.
Game development is hell. There are worse things than not getting to finish if that is the case
Is this like giving out participation trophies instead of keeping score?
It's more like hey, you released a AAA title, that didn't get canceled before hand, will still probably please some fans, and honestly isn't all that bad being a first effort.
