Mass Effect: Andromeda - The First 45 Minutes (Gamespot)

I think the performance would be the same without the pro tbh. This is on Bioware not optimizing the game propperly on each system. I expect the X1 to be worse.. Sadly

Edit: correct me if wrong
And what will be xbones excuse? Why do people think the standard ps4 version got shafted instead of the ps4 pro version simply and obviously being better? The game would have ran just as shit on ps4 whether the pro existed or not.
How do you know the performance wouldn't be the same if the Pro didn't exist? Lets see how the Xbox One fares. If it's the same as base PS4, what's the excuse?

Pro gives them an excuse to not optimize the game any further on base PS4. It acts like a sort of scapegoat for them. Even if the game doesn't run that well on base PS4, they can still say they had good performance on consoles and since many gaming outlets use Pro for playing the game, most of them will agree on that.

Look at what CDPR did with the PS4 version of Witcher 3 and how they optimized it through many patches to finally achieve a stable framerate. Do you honestly think they would've bothered if the game had a PS4 Pro version which ran at an almost consistent 30fps?

I know base PS4 wouldn't have magically be able to run this game at a smooth 30fps if there wasn't any Pro. But if the only console versions of this game were OG PS4 and Xbox One, then Bioware would've put more effort into optimizing those versions cause that would've been THE versions that many outlets and console gaming enthusiasts experienced.

I'm really curious to know what went wrong with the facial animations. They look like dolls at times. The animations were fine in DA:I. How are they worse now?

I seriously dont get it. Look for example the part with Peebee in this EA Play 2016 clip (around 0:51)
https://youtu.be/y2vgHOXeps0

How in the hell is that looking like different gen when compared with the same exact scene of Peebee in the 45min gameplay video? Eyes, animation, shaders...even lighting!

I don't understand why GAF hates on this game so much.

This forum places a high emphasis on everything but gameplay when it comes to games with rpg systems. You have a great story, animations, and graphics and the gameplay could be ass but the game will get praise. With this entry of ME the gameplay (action) seems to be front and center while other areas arent on the same level. People are going through Mass Effect vidoes frame by frame to point out issues with the animation, ive never seen anything like it. Not even with Bethesda games and you know those have a lot of jank. There are people complaining that there arent any footprints in the sand or snow, yet not once did i hear that complaint about Horizon.

Gameplay is basically the only thing you can't judge via a video. Of course people focus on the other stuff.

Or praise for the trackmarks of the truck, for that matter.

Ok, so I just sneaked in a few snippets here and there in the beginning. You folks weren't kidding about the animation feeling "off" (they all look so stiff in their places-
reminds me a lot of 3D hentai of old days for some reason
.

Comparing this to the animations in the only other open world third person RPG game worth mentioning, this game's early showing is nowhere near as fluid as that one. CDPR has truly set a benchmark.

that's because there are footprints in Horizon. They were there when i played it last night. Load the game up and see for yourself.

Mass Jank: Andromeda

Looks like it's seriously lacking in the graphics department unfortunately. It's like watching a puppet show with wooden characters, I'm waiting for Pinocchio to jump out.

I can't unsee that lego hair.

Can't stand the writing in this game. Everyone sounds so naive and sentimental. It's hard to believe that these characters are professionals.

Also can't stand the quips and little one-liners.

This looks worse than Eurojank stuff like Spiders's Technomancer or Mars War Logs. Not necessarily graphically, but overall aesthetic wise. Nothing looks distinct stylistically, doesn't seem like they have a vision for it and it looks unpolished and sterile. At least eurojank games have passion behind them. The writing sounds worse than Syfy stuff too.

That complaint has been echoed in the Horizon OT a few times by different players.

Exactly what I'm thinking.

I really need to finish The Technomancer, it has great atmosphere.

Oh god, "Mass Jank" is right about how I feel right about now. In a world where TW3 didn't exist, I think Andromeda would have been looked at with a more favourable light.

I really hope these disappointing shortcomings are compensated by other aspects. Honestly, after ME3, as an ME fan, I had assumed that with the time and budget afforded to Bioware, they'd be able to match TW3's presentation (at least the scope seems larger in MEA). This is especially more relevant because inevitably, EA will nickel and dime consumers with microtransactions.

Animations have always sucked for mass effect unfortunately and I do feel complaints are justified. I remember how much I hated mass effect 1 for its gameplay but I fell in love with the story, more, and hilarious decisions

Animations in ME1 were top of the line and very impressive for its day.

DA:I is a good game and most people liked it initially. Then the hate train came strong post Witcher 3 which turned out to be miles ahead in terms of side-quest quality and graphics. People love to just compare and derisively comment on the lesser of the two.

Bioware (and Bethesda) need to get over their janky animations from 2011. These simply don't do justice to the beautiful frostbite engine graphics.

smh

They really do tho. Like I love BW games but this is too much jank even for them.

It's a pretty good deconstruction of the chosen one trope, which DAO adhered to to a T.

Yep. I can't wait for DA4 :D

Bummed about the framerates. I need a new PC.

Kind of reminds me of when a new Ubisoft or Bethesda game comes out. You would think if people are done with a specific developer or no longer like their games then they would actively avoid them and rather spend that energy focused on something they actually do enjoy. I guess Bioware is now part of that club now?

Yes.

What are people complaining about? It looks like Mass Effect, better than the previous entries, but in essence, the same. Yes, animations aand faces are not the best, but it looks just like what I assume was expected from a Mass Effect game?

What are the problems people have with this other than animations, faces and maybe hate for EA and Bioware because of ME3?

It's Mass Effect (and BioWare). Something about this series broke some people on a level I don't really understand.

Even before Mass Effect 3 you had people going on about the second game like it was a deep betrayal in a way that really came across as emotionally unhinged.

Honestly the series has always been fairly mediocre from the start so to me it makes sense to either look past the flaws and enjoy the stuff you like or simply move on to other things. There's some people with an obsession that just isn't healthy and is disturbing coming from ostensible adults.

Does anyone here know of any decent blind Let's Play series of the first 3 Mass Effects?

Got nothing to play until Andromeda comes out, and don't feel like playing through them again myself

Yea, there doesn't seem to be a cohesive style everything seems mishmashed together imo. It's really showing how this was made by the multi team from ME3 and it had some "problems" or a rough patch during development.
I don't hate it, I'm just worried that it's going too much in the Inquisition direction, which had its moments, but ultimately became a chore.
Yea, it's annoying how any time someone talks bad about this game it's always met with hostility. Yes, there a definitely a lot of people just hoping on to talk shit just because but there are a lot of me trilogy fans(myself included) who just don't like the direction the game seems to have headed in and our "negative" opinions are coming from a place of concern for a series we truly enjoyed and loved. A lot of us didn't want inquisition in space and it seems we're getting that.

Honestly after 3 when I was dreaming of a next gen Mass Effect this isn't exactly what I had in mind. I'm sure there will be plenty of fun to be had in there, but the whole project feels... underwhelming.

Incidently that's exactly how I felt about Sims 4, for some reasons.

As a huge fan of the original games (sans Ending), this bums me out. Really surprised by how little I'm looking forward to it.

Character facial and body animations are awful in cutscenes. Like, quite terrible. Everything else looked mostly fine to me.

Edit: The person that said it's like watching Robot Chicken, but without the funny, is kinda spot on.

Something about the dialogue during the fight around 38minutes in seems so bad. It comes accross as too casual, emotionless and forced all at the same time. I don't remember there being any lines that felt so out of place during combat in the original trilogy.

To me it felt like one of those conversations a team would have during an E3 presentation. Some real Ubisoft fake multiplayer tier dialog.

The facial animations were sure but man the rest was rough. I always complained about how stiff everything was

Going from KOTOR1/Jade Empire to ME1 was pretty great though. I remember the first trailers of Sheploo having that conversation with the salarian bartender. Pretty impressive for its time.
