Mass Effect (BioWare/MGS)screens

GAF am bitching.

Looks pretty fucking cool. Graphics are pretty good for a wide-open RPG like this.

Here's a question.

With 3 original Xbox 360 titles coming from a company that released 2 games during 4 years, where is this Jade Empire PS3 game? Oops.

For some reason I don't care too much about the graphics of this game, It got me interested just because is Bioware and the sci-fi settings

A rumor not coming true? Shocking...

I wish someone would pick up the ball and do a continuation of this RPG FPS

Good times. Good times.

Shroud who's from Bioware had this to say on the IGN boards:

Hi guys!

A few things:

1) it's being produced/developed by the same team that produced KotOR.

2) there's still more goodness to come today

3) all the shots are in-game. None of the media being released right now is pre-rendered CGI stuff.

4) it's an action-RPG a-la Jade or Fable.

More goodness to come today? :D

Please tell Bioware that their character designer needs to lay off the prozac.

geez, they all look stale.

But nonetheless it'll probably be an awesome game.

Why are you so anti-Sony?

BioWare games bore me to tears, but I really love that character design (second shot, far right). Here's hoping it's fun.

Bioware's a good developer, but fer chrissakes, how many next-gen games do we need featuring sci-fi worlds with badasses in body armor?! Mass Effect, Gears of War, Too Human, (the inevitable) Halo 3... I'm sure I'm leaving at least two titles out of that list.

I'm anti-rumor and anti-defection. Sony has nothing to do with it. As a matter of fact, I expect so many great PS3 RPG's that it won't need such a game. The 360 however needs RPG's, and many of them.

I've been a big lover of Bioware for a long time, but this just looks like KotOR part 3. I'm bored just looking at it, but I'll try to wait until I play it before making judgment on it.

This sucks, I was hoping Bioware would continue down the road they began with JE; ie. new IP's set in worlds/settings we don't see that often. This just looks extremely generic and tired, and the visuals are kinda mediocre. And I swear if they tout 'choose good or evil' as a feature on this game I'ma barf.

JE has shown that Bioware isn't infallible when it comes to crafting good, original gameplay, so I'm finding it hard to get excited about this, even though I really, really, really love Bioware. =(

QFT. I really liked the setting in JE but this futuristic sci-fi stuff has got to stop. Its fine in small doses but its reaching critical mass now.

Halo, UT2007, GOW, Huxley, Mass Effect, Too Human, Quake 4, etc, etc, etc.

Futuristic sci-fi = the new World War II.

In case you haven't realized it. The PS3 is still very far away from a western release.

Look at how many months before the X360 release the Bioware game was shown...one month. Expect to see the Bioware PS3 announcements/pics (and many of the western developer announcements) around the same timeframe before the PS3 hits.

People keep thinking Sony will show their cards when X360 shows theirs. But there is a 6 month difference between the consoles. Expect PS3 announcements 6 months after X360 announcements...not now.

...and my money is on several big western rpg franchises coming to PS3 exclusively. But we'll see.

Fucking whiners. Shutup with your "too much sci-fi" bs.
Yeah, you're probably right. I mean, why would anyone desire diversity? Variety in gaming is soooo overrated.

=/

This quote = the reason why many skipped on the Xbox.

Yes, because another RPG taking place in a land of castles and swords is what's in dire need these days.

We need more RPG's with crystals, destiny, and mana.

Those are in short supply.

Seriously, are you aware of what you're saying? There are so few Western RPG's out there and so many Japanese ones that anything Bethesda, Bioware, etc. develop is a gift to any platform.

I don't even know of many "big Western RPG franchises". There haven't been many this generation, that's for sure.

You try so incredibly hard I can't decide whether it's comical or just plain sad.

Hey, say what you will about me. I've read much worse. Your closed-minded attitude is only hurting your overall gaming experience.

Here's a thought - maybe they've just increased their production capacity...! Shocking, I know. Also, Bioware doesn't just make Xbox games, so their existing overall output is a little higher than 2 games every 4 years.

Anyway, this looks pretty good. I like the facial detail in the main character. The trailer is quick but hints at a range of facial expressions. Look forward to seeing more.

Hrm I'm a little bit wary after Jade Empire (combat system waaay too gimmicky). But oh well there's another console for me to buy.

I don't know what to think about the sci-fi theme. There are too many games like this these days. I like the direction they went with Jade Empire... however, this is Bioware so I expect the game to kick all kinds of ass anyway.

Looks good enough to me, but what I"m really concerned with is the depth of the gameplay. I fucking wish Bioware would go back to making PC games, unless they are willing to stop dumbing down the games for the console audience. Will we ever get the in depth story of Planescape Torment present on a console game? Will we get the virtually limitless customization and choice of games like Baldur's Gate and Fallout?

If you showed me those screens and didn't tell me anything about them, I would've sworn it was your typical futuristic squad-based FPS. I'd have even preferred a Jade Empire 2 sequel to this (cuz at least that game had some interesting environments).

I also am one of the minority who thinks Bioware is overrated as hell... they're good at dialogue, but not much else.

IGN Behind closed doors interview. Has this been posted yet? There is one thing that really worries me in that interview.

IGN interview said:
In another interesting tack, Mass Effect is the first game in a trilogy, which, BioWare says, will cover the lifespan of the Xbox 360's five-plus year cycle. When you finish the first game, BioWare plans to upload content in between games in an episodic fashion, filling in the story between games. Thus, when the second big title arrives, fans who stick with the downloads will know exactly what's going on.

I don't know if I like the sound of that. On top of $60 for the game (probably), I wonder how much this content will cost us to fill in the story. Other than that though, I'm pretty excited about this game. I love me some good sci-fi, and I have great faith in Bioware that they will make the sci-fi setting really great and make a really awesome game with a great story.
