On BBC news they've just stated 406 people lived there with 50 people being treated for injuries.
Don't put that on yourself man, it looks like the community is coming together well to help out. Can't be there for everything. If it's eating at you just throw some cash when a fund is set up.
Probably been mentioned already, but the BBC New Special just had an eyewitness report of a woman who threw her baby from the 9th or 10th floor down to the crowd below to save it. A man was able to catch it, but...jesus. I can't even, and don't want to, imagine it. I'm dreading the evening report's figures.
- Fire alarms not working
- Highly flammable cladding and poor building management
- Instructions to tell people to stay put
- Water points for the fire brigade that surround building inoperable.
I mean... What the fuck. Everybody involved in this needs to go down for it in a big way. The last one takes the cake. It sounds like the firemen got there really quickly but were delayed in being able to get the fire under control because of having to run up to the next road to run their hoses back to the building. It's a fucking joke.

So the local council tried to gag the action group that complained about the fire alarms.

Awful, awful, awful.
Check the batteries in your smoke alarms, test your fire alarm and make sure everyone you live with knows exactly what to do and how to get out if there is a fire.

Breakage said:The trite "lessons must be learnt" response seems to be the default excuse for neglect and serious failures these days.
Sure it's already been posted, but this makes for a profound reading experience this morning. What an awful way to have to say "we told you so".
Though they weren't able to help the poor souls lost in this fire, I hope that the consequences that come to bear on all of those who ignored these warnings serve as a massive wake up call to others in the future.

That interview on BBC news is heartbreaking.
Young man telling how his mom and infant sister were trapped in 11th floor until around 6am. They survived 5 hours in that inferno. Absolutely incredible considering those images I've seen from the middle of the night....
The bit where his mother apparently tried to tell him 'I'm fine', on the phone, panic in her voice, got to me. Because even while trapped in the closest thing to hell on Earth, she was trying to keep her son calm.
Metro Police confirm 6 dead so far
Which means it already matches the Lakanal House tower fire for fatalities. This is just gonna get worse.
I hope the building owners are buckled up because they're going to be doing time.
Anyone know if there is a risk of the tower collapsing?
It's predominately social housing, so ultimately the owner is the local council (although it is managed by a housing association). I wouldn't expect criminal charges.

That will come back and bite them big time and rightly so.
Absolutely disgusting, the image of the person flashing their lights on and off as the fire moves towards them will haunt me forever.
This is what happens when you put profits ahead of people, people need to wake the fuck up.
Prison is literally too good for the people responsible for this building.

This will go way higher than that. It already implicates Downing Street.
This is a Hillsborough style disaster, without the possibility of a Hillsborough style cover up. I would expect significant jail time, and resignations reaching into the highest levels of government.

Having to catch? That pressure.Jesus, having to make that decision would be horrific.
