What games actually push the industry forward besides the ones I listed?
Before that, how are the games you listed pushing the industry forward to begin with? Not some vague "graphics look good!" reason, actual tecnical aspects of the game that positively influence the rest of the industry, set trends and are actually relevant to players.

Freelancer from 2003 is the best space game ever made, imho.
Re-Volt is the best Mario Kart clone
Metal Marines on the SNES is really, really good.
Battle Realms: Zen Edition is an underrated RTS gem.
Elevator Action Returns is also really great. One of the best games on the Saturn
Brigador is a top-down shooter that should be more popular.
And, of course, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic has still the best first-person melee combat system ever.

TLOU2 Visuals (Still better than 90% of games available today) on 2013 hardware, true motion matching animations, attention to the smallest details (Example: Dina squinting from Ellies flashlight or Abbys muscles flexing when firing a gun or Eyeball rendering), cinematography, using advanced technology to convey a narrative, controls and fight system, most GOTY awards in history. The Order 1886 pushed CGI like visuals in 2015 on PS4 and helped make PBR more popular and mainstream, Showed what devs can do when they squeeze all of the power out of a console. The Order 1886 still looks better than 90% of games ever created. Hellblade 2 brought true “next gen” CGI like visuals to current gen consoles. Death Stranding ignored the common dogmas about what a video games should be and became one of the most immersive and unique gameplay experiences today, that’s why its getting a sequel and the visuals are still breathtaking. Alan Wake 2 bought Remedys lore and gave us a unique but familiar cinematic experience with masterclass level graphics. Star Wars bought us true RTGI to consoles in an open world game with great visuals.

These are titles that should be praised more than mocked. They are the cream of the crop…

Freelancer and Dark Messiah need more love.

The fuck did i say.

true motion matching animations,
Their animations are nice, true

attention to the smallest details (Example: Dina squinting from Ellies flashlight or Abbys muscles flexing when firing a gun or Eyeball rendering),
"Attention to detail" is far too vague and extremaly relative.

cinematography,
Using cinema techniques is far from a new concept in games.

using advanced technology to convey a narrative,
Such as.....?

controls and fight system,
Not particularly special

most GOTY awards in history.
Irrelevant

The Order 1886 pushed CGI like visuals in 2015 on PS4 and
The fuck did i say

helped make PBR more popular and mainstream,
PBR was already being pushed back then and there were earlier examples, so not a strong point.

Showed what devs can do when they squeeze all of the power out of a console.
Irrelevant

The Order 1886 still looks better than 90% of games ever created.
The fuck did i say, for the third time

Hellblade 2 brought true “next gen” CGI like visuals to current gen consoles.
thats the fourth now.

Death Stranding ignored the common dogmas about what a video games should be and became one of the most immersive and unique gameplay experiences today,
death stranding did not invent creativity nor immersion.

Alan Wake 2 bought Remedys lore and gave us a unique but familiar cinematic experience
not relevant

with masterclass level graphics.
Thats the fifth

Star Wars bought us true RTGI to consoles in an open world game with great visuals.
The sixth. And pretty sure the first was Metro exodus enhanced

These are titles that should be praised more than mocked. They are the cream of the crop…
K

So yeah, the only remotely "industry-pushing" thing among the games you listed is animation tech. Thats it, thats what you're holding up as some holy grail.

I've finally gotten around to trying this and maaan if I had known it was Arkane I would have done so sooo much earlier.

It really does hold up so well even today and each combat encounter gives you 10 different ways to go through it and I've actually gotten shocked at a couple points in the story already like DAMN

Nowadays? In terms of tech its all spread too thin, this isn't the 80s or the 90s. For modern challenges i'd say the greatest milestones are set by the devs who can best figure out good business models and adequate production pipelines, for being bad at that is whats stopping bigger, better and larger games from being made.

To that end, studios like From, Larian, Epic Games, Atlus, Capcom, as well as smaller ones like SCS software, Ghost Ship Studios and New Blood Interactive, have all shown how to best cultivate audiences and nurture them, which eventually led - or will lead - to the creation of some pretty amazing stuff that wouldn't be possible with just budget and talent.

And even if you try and argue i'm wrong, the results speaks for themselves. These are all studios who managed to extract great success stories from what most considered (until they came around) niche and unpopular types of games, often unique enough that they're considered the ones who created or pioneered a genre.
