It also shows how important Playstation is to the COD franchise. There is Sony was worried about Microsoft controlling Call of Duty.
Hollywood is the same. The top ones would be slop like Avatar and Marvel movies. While the good shit like There Will Be Blood and Goodfellas would be MIA.extremely depressing list, but i guess this list would be almost the same on pc or xbox, cod cod cod , minecraft, cod.
Surprised not to see a Madden in there.
COD is a yearly game. That's a yearly game that's dependent on people liking American football. Not too surprising.
It's not the main reason, but having multiple, massively popular first party games is a key differentiator and an advantage in Sony's favour.I was literally talking about this in another topic. People think their first party games are what makes people buy their hardware...it's not. It never was.
2 games in dollars and 4 games in units sold says it all.
edit: Also...Spider-Man, a non Sony IP being there also helps to show how they don't have many established IPs as huge as the other ones.
I promise it's not COD on PC.extremely depressing list, but i guess this list would be almost the same on pc or xbox, cod cod cod , minecraft, cod.
It's pretty funny Xbox has the dudebro image.Dudebro shooter station. Even a COD game like WWII which didnt get the greatest reviews or sales since WWII themes got tired even ranks top 20 in units and dollars.
What' also interesting to eyeball is seeing how the $$$ ranking of a game compares to its Units ranking (if it's there). If the $$$ is higher ranked it means the avg price will skew higher. If the $$$ are lower, it'll mean it skews to more bargain binning (or pack in games in a console bundle if a game's unit sales still count if sold that way)
Edit: The footnote says bundled games arent counted in charts. So it means these rankings are purely individual sales.
US only… Outside nobody plays that.Surprised not to see a Madden in there.

I promise it's not COD on PC.

I assume always lost out annually to CoD. Makes it hard to be in a top 20 list over ~30 years.Surprised not to see a Madden in there.
Yes, i missed the US partIt is a US only list.![]()
Agree, but not for Sony. GAAS games generate a lot of money. That's a depressing list.
PS systems have always been heavy into shooters. It's just that they never got a COD, Halo or BF of their own to rake in massive sales. Just look at how many shooters they launched during PS3. So Sony tried. Problem is they spread themselves out too thin. If they just focused on 1 or 2 shooter IPs to get a following, they'd likely have their own shooter that could still have a modern day release. So Sony gave up on making them and did major COD partnerships deals starting in PS4 era. It's pretty funny Xbox has the dudebro image.
It is a Can/US list. Thats what Circana tracks. I'm surprised a Madden didnt sneak in there.US only… Outside nobody plays that.

True. Edited.This is WW
Those same 3p games are available on every other platform as well. Sony is not 100% dependent on 1p exclusives but that doesn't mean they are not crucial to maintain a competitive edge. And ultimately what matters is having exclusive software that people want. The distinction between 1p and 3p is irrelevant to the consumer.I was literally talking about this in another topic. People think their first party games are what makes people buy their hardware...it's not. It never was.

I have to imagine TotK would be #1 if digital sales were included.A bit surprised not to see Hogwarts Legacy in the top 20, especially since it was the top selling game in the US in 2023 according to Circana.
