These are all real sales. Sony take 30%, for doing nothing, Microsoft get 70% and have access to a nearly 3x bigger userbase. They both win here. And for Microsoft it means more money than ever before from their games so they can make more and better games and maybe stop doing job cuts and can keep Gamepass around.

There is literally nothing bad coming from this. For anyone. Platform warriors just don't know how to handle it when there is no clear war anymore. Next month if Helldivers 2 tops the Xbox chart there will be lots of Syntax Errors on display.

Used to be that you can release a Forza-like racing game on PS5 (which Ubisoft actually does to decent sales and acclaim) and get that entire massive market to yourself, now your former 1P partner is fighting you on that frontier too.

Releasing "not-exclusive" games like that on multiplats used to be an easy winning strategy for 3P players, but now that 1P companies are eyeing up that slice of the gaming pie, expect a lot more revenue problems for big 3P players on the market in the coming days.

I think many users who aren't subscribers don't really understand how gamepass works. It only affects sales of MS first, 2nd party games but that's only because those games are Day One and permanent to the catalog.

Third party games added aren't permanent but mostly 12 month contracts, with very few repeats except Tombraider and GTAV.

EA games get added to EA Play thus Gamepass Ultimate after 8-9 months for sports titles and 12 months for AAA releases. But all those games do sell on Xbox within that 12 month period and even after.

Day One indie games get their development costs subsidized by GamePass and they get free marketing and allowed to be sold everywhere, in exchange for 12 month contract on service. If someone doesn't get to play within that window, they still have to buy it if they want to play.

99% of AAA third party games won't be added on Day one to begin with, and unlikely for 2-4 years after release. And when they do eventually get added, it would be for 12 months.

So when someone says xbox users wait for third party game to be added to gamepass, they're basically saying they wait 3-4 years for a major game, then play it within that 12 month time period, and will never touch that game again if new DLC. That doesn't make sense at all. Because Cyberpunk wouldn't have sold on Xbox and gamepass users are still waiting....and waiting....

Good games will sell regardless of GamePass.
