Mat Piscatella: This is likely not the last time we see an uptick on PS5 price

From what I've been able to find surfing Google:
  • Sony is sending the US consoles that are made in Japan or Malaysia to avoid most of the tariffs on Chinese manufactured goods. Their accessories are still produced in China.
  • The tariff rate on Japan is now 15%, which didn't exist on electronics goods previously.
  • If you just take the previous retail prices and multiply by the tariff rate, they're still probably worse off after the price increase.
Now someone might say "but their cost isn't the entire previous retail price". That's true, but they didn't raise prices on accessories, and from what I can find, it looks like almost all of those are still made in China, which means they're taking a bigger hit on those? Anyone down to pay $90+ for a Dual Sense? Without knowing how much these products cost Sony to produce, we won't be able to do the exact math.

In any case, we voted for this. :messenger_sunglasses:

Shut the fu** up, carl fredricksen, stop trying to be THE news, your work is to share data, not try to generate data, moron!

... What?

Piscatella is an analyst. Part of his job is to make predictions about the future of the industry. That doesn't mean he's going to be right all of the time, or even most of the time (see: Patcher, Michael), but this is very much within the scope of his work.

well i mean, if you are buying a PS5, you are also buying an Xbax too. The price must reflect the value. 😎
Can't wait to get the GamePass added value on PS5. What kind of shit is this?

Worst gen for 1st party games but cheering profits and justifying price increases. If Steam brings a console out I'm off to the master race 😂

what do you expect he ran away to Blue Sky like the rest of them.

An analyst job is to try to preview things given current data and analysis, that is absolutely fair, the focus is on the analysis and the data - not the analyst him/herself. GIven this MF cannow show data, we simply cannot discuss the analysis... so, he post it like he IS the news to generate flame war, that generaltes clicks... and that moves the internet. I'm personally tired of this kind of stuff, because it generates empty discussions.

Whenever I feel any kind of self doubt, I remember that Michael Pachter exists. Then I remember how rich he probably is, and I feel normal again.

But the price will only go up in the US right, because of the tariffs?

Sony:

From what I've heard the companies might be diluting the cost across the whole operation. So countries that aren't doing the tariffs might still get an increase to level off the entire endeavour... It's confusing..

It's not confusing. They're chasing profits and they have plenty of excuses to do it. So they will do it.
