So how are Fit numbers and Wii hardware - good as expected or less?
I think Fit numbers are within expectations but Wii hardware is probably better than expected. That also gives a little perspective as to why we saw a significant ramp up in sales last week too.

It's safe to say that it will do a couple hundred thousand in the first couple weeks. I'm not sure about Japan but worldwide, GT is the 10th best selling franchise in gaming ever.

It'll never happen. I don't even think SM64 hit 1.5 million. But this is all about what should have been, the hopes and dreams of the many (a.k.a. me)!

Is Dragon Quest IV having shortages? This is a normal drop off for a DQ game, so I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't, but I still remember the first day sales were like 300k, which was 70% of the shipment then.

Pretty sure Vinnk said it was not to hard to locate.

Yeah I know the game does great worldwide.

Amazing sales for Wii, hardware and software! This is it's highest point since the end of August. PS3 sales drop, not surprising since the new hardware bump has worn off.

Also, a great start for Wii Fit, we can expect over 500k by new years.

As expected Wii Fit revitalizes Wii, Wii Sports and Wii Play but barely managed to prevent Galaxy's fall. But hey! 3 weeks more like this and Galaxy will sell its first shipment! :lol

Naruto died. Takara Tomy better rename it Sasuke or something, can't wait to see Accel 2 for further confirmation.

This week releases:
NDS Gintama: Gin-Oh Quest
NDS Power Pro Kun Pocket 10
NDS Tales of Innocence
PS2 Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
PS3 Uncharted: El Dorado no Hihou
PSP Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
PSP Minna no Golf Portable 2
PSP Silent Hill Zero
WII Minna de Asobou de! Namco Carnival
WII No More Heroes
WII Tamagotchi no Furifuri Kagekidan
360 Atsumare! Viva Pinata - Let's Party
360 Lost Odyssey
360 Momotarou Dentetsu 16 Gold
360 Virtua Fighter 5 Live Arena

I don't want to be here when first day numbers come, too much to translate :lol

I wonder how Uncharted will sell in Japan or if it will bump up the hardware sales at all, since it's the only new release.

No More Heroes seems to be liked by a lot of Japanese, too, so I'd expect even higher Wii sales next week than this week's numbers.

Next weeks Media Create charts will be even more interesting than this week. Tales of Innocence, Silent Hill Origins, Minna no Golf 2, Lost Odyssey, Virtua Fighter 5 and last but not least No more Heroes. At least 2 of these games won´t enter Media Creates Top 10 charts most likely Virtua Fighter and Silent Hill.

You think No More Heroes will enter the charts but Silent Hill will? Really?

On PS2 userbase...
GT3: ~1.4 million
GT Concept 2001: ~330K
GT4P: ~800K
GT4: ~1.1 million
GT4 (the Best): Not as much as some long-legged Best games; the only data point I have is that as of a half year it was at ~50K.

1.Layton2 308000
2.WiiFit 254000
3.Gジェネ 231000
4.DQ4 132000(734000)
5.BASARA PS2 94000

8.Mario & Sonic 42000(109000)
9.Yugioh 39000
10.SMG 36000(452000)

Others
12.WE2008 PS3 31000(176000)
14.Wii Sports 27000(2162000)
15.Wii Play 26000(1707000)
18.Musou5 PS3 15000(295000)
19.がんばる私の家計ダイアリー (DS) 14000(310000)
21.REUC 13000(147000)
22.Mario Kart DS 13000(2566000)
24.Layton1 12000(696000)
26.Pokemon dungeon 12000(1076000)
27.MHP2 11000(1387000)

Layton sales (1 and 2) are really performing well. Nice to see MnS and SMG showing some staying power. Nice debut for Wii Fit. REUC sales seem strong - Capcom is probably satisfied with the Japan performance. Mario Kart DS rises from the grave (was it ever there), and MHP2 makes an apperance.

Lot's of stuff coming out this week.
As long as NMH outsells the other two Wii games. I'm happy..

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
As much as I herald it, I think people are setting themselves up to be disappointed with NMH sales numbers.

If it sells 50k or more the first week, I'd consider it a success. This game has been getting much praise and positive feedback. And it's a really wierd game, so that's a plus for it, too, in Japan.

Wow, interesting numbers all around.

Wii Fit- great start. I honestly had no clue what to expect, but based on the 150-300K pretail order, that's awesome.

Wii hardware- about what I expected, maybe more. If I remember correctly, last week Famitsu had it at like 45Kish? So a pretty healthy jump. MC numbers might be higher.

Wii software- Pretty impressive IMO. Like I hoped, Wii Fit at least temporarily might be helping more "traditional" games keep going. Galaxy showing legs. M@S showing legs. Of course Wii Sports and Wii Play get a boost. RE:UC keeps chugging..hopefully it manages to break 200K.

Don't get me wrong, I have had this game pre-ordered for months and can't wait to play it. But it's not going to set the world on fire. I'd be impressed if it did 100k lifetime.

Should be interesting to see how Tales of Innosence and No More Heroes performs. I predict over 100k for Tales first week, but I predict a semi-bomb for No More Heroes. I think it'll have problems selling more than 50k first week. Uncharted will not sell more than 30k first week.

Expected sales for Wii Fit, solid boost for Wii sales and general Wii software. PS3 keeps steady pace despite having few releases this week. Good showing. PSP doing crazy numbers still (hardware).

Why is Layton so popular in Japan? It's got a western european artstyle and it's a brand new franchise? What made it take off from teh get go? Is it Level 5's pedigree or is it something else (the games are good, but that really doesn't mean squat regarding the success or failure of a franchise). I never expected Japan to love that type of game so much.

I'd say 50k would be amazing numbers and nowhere near a bomb

Great Wii Fit numbers, and a decent boost for Wii hw sales. PSP sales down from last week, but still excellent. Really racking up the LTD in Japan now, very impressive. PS3 sales also dropped, but that isn't surprising.

Big debut for Layton 2, with the time of year and decent legs it could top 800K, maybe even make it to a million. Mario and Sonic is continuing to have decent sales, it could manage a really nice LTD when all said and done, over 300K isn't out of the question. My Housekeeping Diary has shown great staying power, and has amassed a really healthy LTD, much higher that I thought it would. Pokémon MD2 is doing well and MKDS continues to sell good numbers, over 3 million could happen when all said and done, which is amazing.

Great to see SMG and Wii Sports having good sales. I still think there's a chance for Galaxy to reach a million, if not 750K should happen, which is good.

Good chart all round imo, nice mix of styles.

If SMG keeps selling at this rate for the next couple of weeks, I think we can say that it's selling through word of mouth, from people who may not have played games very often. It's nice to see that it hasn't fallen off the face of the earth. It isn't ever going to do NSMB numbers, but if it keeps NSMB-esque legs, then we could see at least 1.5 LTD if not more. (Without a price collapse.)

Minna de Asobou de! Namco Carnival
What is this? Searching for information has lead me to a bunch of pages with the name listed but no information. The tone of the title (Everyone's something something! Namco Carnival) reminds me of one of Wii's early legged titles, Namco's Ennichi no Tatsujin.

I really do hope SMG has BT2/MKDS style legs, but I am not going to have any expectations. Once bitten twice shy. Twilight Princess.... looking at you.

I think Wii Fit is going to do well. I think its far from killing gaming, if anything it is going to expand it. Whether EAD change the resources or not remains to be seen. I know if I was a business man, I would've put insane amounts of money behind the push of these "non-games". I would've told 3d mario and Zelda to fuck off. As much as I love them, I don't think business men have passion's of this sort. Its just money. And Training games are 1000's% more profitable.

I went into my local GAME today, and couldn't see any Phantom Hourglass. Its not on the chart or on the shelf. Could it be doing so well it sold out and NoE hasn't really got itself organised. I doubt it, they prolly couldn't even sell one copy, so they sent them all back or to other stores.

EDIT: who thinks we will still see WiiSports charting here and there in two years time? SO long as it isn't being bundled.

The DQ4 numbers don't seem bad to me -- but then I don't have the PS1 version's numbers on hand, so I can't see how it's tracking relatively. At least it doesn't look like it's been completely choked off by a lack of supply.

Code:
Dragon Quest IV PSX 620,802 143,232 71,850 1,173,671
Dragon Quest IV NDS	602,000 132,000

Or, more simply: one million, here we come.

I have a feeling WiiFit will be sold out soon if the the retail orders were around 300k. WiiFit game might require more time to manufacture because of the Wii board, sorta like guitar hero 3 here in US. Seeing how conservative Nintendo has been with the Wii, Wiifit might be sold out for a few weeks or even months....

Well from all accounts Nintendo has been banking on Wii Fit as their big holiday release for a while now. They said way back at E3 that they were starting to manufacture the boards. I'm guessing we'll see a pretty consistent week to week shipment.

That's not very daring. ToI needs to do something like 450k lifetime to do "well," which probably means an opening week around 250k. 100k would pretty much mean that Namco had tainted the DS well forever with Tempest.

It's not really that unusual, is it? It hits up a fairly proven area of gameplay (simple puzzle-solving) on the DS, and it's cute. I don't think its artstyle is really that far outside of what Japan is known to like.

As a reference, does anyone have the DS/PS2 numbers from last December. Given they're about 100,000 apart this week, that puts DS with 700,000 of PS2, and I'm wondering if it can pass it this month or soon after.

On Amazon alone, Uncharted seems to be doing good (tight supply it seems). It may not be a bomb.

On PSP side, I have been paying attention to a game called "勇者のくせになまいきだ" (also tight supply it seems). Maybe the performance of this little almost-ignorable puzzle game will surprise everyone.

Regurgitating old titles as usual...I didn't add Hanetobi to the 12/6 list though...it was enough with this one, tales, tamagotchi, gintama....ehhh Namdai should spread their releases a little more.

Even Suda said that NMH was a western centric game, so I wouldn't be surprised if thier expectations are very muted for Japanese sales. Even the VA of the game is already in English.

Good word of mouth. It's opening week was 120K in February, and it's almost sextupled that. Weeks 2-7 ranged from 42-53K, so it had amazing staying power.
