EDarkness said:Based on some recent announcements, I get the feeling not many companies have moved over assets to the Wii. Seems more and more announcements are PS3/360 which doesn't bode well at changing the Wii 3rd party landscape. I think the Wii will spend the rest of its life covered in ports and low quality software overall with the occasional token franchise spin-off hitting the system. The situation is fairly sad, to be honest.
Minsc said:The amount of software titles which have seen decent increases this week is also pretty surprising, didn't expect Galaxy and DQ4 over 100K each.
I don't think that's so. I think most developers is playing the wait and see card to see if putting games on the Wii is worth it. Couple that with the fact most traditional games doesn't translate to the Wii very well in the traditional sense. New IP's is the way to go this gen for the Wii. Sales play a big role in the videogames business.llTll said:some people miss an important points here. maybe some high profile developers dont want to work on Wii regardless of the sales?
last Gen. most of the developers were stuck with the PS2 to the point they even didnt develop for the Xbox 1 which had a powerful hardware. now the PS3 and the 360 are out. not many japanese developers are making great looking games on these 2 systems because they lack the talent to do so. not saying they are stupid. they just dont have experience in it
maybe they feel if they spend their time on Wii, they will lack even more in terms of up to date with graphics/physics etc etc.
i am not saying that this is the only and the main reason. but as a gamer, we dont look at this point because we dont care, we only care about our console and getting high profile games we love on it.
BishopLamont said:Last week's Famitsu > MC was about 10k IIRC. So best case scenario the PS3 remains stable, which is still disappointing. Major releases and killer apps don't mean much during the holiday season, everything gets a boost regardless of software.
Weisheit said:Personally I didn't expect it to do anything special, but that doesn't negate the fact that we're in the middle of the biggest shopping season in Japan. At some point these consoles sell because of the games and features they already have rather than whats coming. When a console can't get a big bump for the holidays it's got big problems in my book, just look at the PSP, no big releases (I think) and it did over 150k.

The PS3 has been about 50k for the past few weeks, this is the time when it's suppose to increase not remain the same. Why would it drop after weeks of doing 50k, especially in the midst of the holidays?test_account said:It might have been 2 weeks ago i think. Killer apps and good games will always mean something for the sales, regardless if its the holiday season or not. After all, the reason that people are buying a game system is usally because of the games for it. Sure, people buy more around x-mas, but without those killer apps i.e Wii Sport, Play and Fit, Wii would never see this high of a boost. PS3 doesnt have any of these killer apps, therefor the chance for a big boost on holiday season isnt that big.
It only dropped 2k (from 53k to 51k) this week and last week was the release of GT5P. By this i guess you can say there was a boost in sales due to holiday season since it only dropped that little. I think it would have dropped much more if it wasnt for x-mas.
As you can see most third party games on the Wii hasn't exactly performed spectacular, I think they're waiting till sales get better. It's just a really bad time to be a third party in Japan right now, unless you're Nintendo and SE.norinrad21 said:They've had more than a year to do their wait and see nonsense. How much longer do they need? and by the time they finally make up their damn minds, Wii-2 would have already been released.
starship said:PSP is lower than last week which is not great at all.
But this week is so much bigger than last week. Just look at the boosts Wii and DS got.AnimeTheme said:Last week was the launch of limited PSP Slim Deep Red. A slight drop in this week is absolutely normal.

llTll said:wait and see on Wii? what is there to wait for? the system is number 1 world wide. its selling in japan alone more than the PS3 and 360 sell world wide in the same month. let alone the huge sales in the rest of the world.
there is no wait and see here. we would say wait and see aroud early 2007 when you might think that this amazing wii sales is just for short period and it will go down. but not now.
norinrad21 said:Most 3rd party games have been ports of half assed shitty games to insult the Wii-base....a few games from Konami comes to mind.
Where are the Mystical Ninja's etc? I remember the N64 version selling very very well, even hybrid heaven did well
Why didn't you tell me earlier.AniHawk said:No that was always supposed to be Metal Gear Solid 4. Gran Turismo isn't really a system seller. People should've expected it to bomb.
PS2 version did the same as other years.Lobster said:Power Pro bombed on both Ps2 and Wii :\ Hard too.

Ok we're mixing Famitsu and MC numbers and what not, let's just wait for this weeks MC hardware to have any conclusive debates.test_account said:I said so myself, but after looking at the chart i have to withdraw that statement. Its been more up and down than i thought. I thought it was closer around 50k (maybe i'm thinking of Media Create, but this comparision is with Famitsu numbers). This chart shows hardware numbers from 1. November 2007:
http://joshuajamesslone.name/gamech...4]=&system[5]=&date[5]=&group[5]=&tracker[5]=
Its hard to say if it really dropped or stayed stable due to the release of GTP5 last week. I think its safe to say that this game moved quite a few units last week. This week the numbers are about the same as last week, and this week there wasnt really any big-seller games released. That can be a strong indicator that the sales went more up than it would if it wasnt for x-mas.

Taiko no Tatsujin DS shows some really nice legs. The games release was a horrible disaster with a game breaking bug, the inevitable recall and the resulting non-availability for many weeks. You would think those circumstances would've completely killed the hype.
