Media Create Sales 12/3 - 12/9 2007

The DS should pass PS2 and Wii should pass Gamecube by the end of the year.

And 360 has now officially passed Xbox 1 according if you go strictly by Media Create numbers.

Xbox360 8,876
Even with Wii's enormous jump, DS still outsells all three current-gen home consoles combined. Good stuff. Good, good stuff. :D

Thats when the Wii numbers should start declining, after all GCN owners grabbed one. :p

With 3 more weeks left, I think the DS will do 1mill+.

I think jj984jj was referring to the gap between the DS and the PS2, which is now less than 500k, and hoping (and I'd expect it to) that it will pass the PS2 LTD before the year is done.

That seems... a little high in Japan. Still, if any system can do it it'd be the DS.

Fucking be careful with what you post. Say "Predictions" or something like that.

Also, nothing really surprising or amazing with the hardware figures. The one thing I find odd is that Wario Ware: Smooth Moves is still up high. I'm betting it ends around 700k LTD.

The first two were million sellers, no? But that was about a decade ago, and Fables bombed, if I remember correctly. We'll see...

So Wii is back and DS reigns as the beastly king once again.

PS3 goes back to regular sales, which is a bad sign since we're a couple of weeks away from holidays - wait, do game sales go up in Japan in December?

Compare Dec Week 2 (03-09), 2007 :
Code:
NDS	PSP	GBA	PS3	Wii	XBOX 360	PS2	GC
 168,267 91,481 114 38,123 115,057 8,876 11,987 46

and Dec Week 2 (04-10), 2006 :
Code:
NDS	PSP	GBA	PS3	Wii	XBOX 360	PS2	GC	XBOX
 309,797 28,930 3,468 50,171 85,439 35,343 30,460 569 6

PSP is doing much better this year (because of the new model ?), while X360 was doing much better last year (since Blue Dragon was released on Dec 7, 2006)

Weelllllll, in all seriousness, it should rank #3 at the very least. I really don't think it'll beat Dragon Quest Swords, so the only question is if it'll also top Blue Dragon's 200k. I'd be pretty shocked if it didn't surge past the rest of the underperforming field -- Lost Odyssey, Oblivion, Enchanted Arms, Eternal Sonata, Folklore, Phantasy Star Universe, Wings of the Goddess and the rest aren't offering much in the way of competition.

If it makes you feel any better, it shouldn't lead to a substantive increase in support from Square Enix!

Unrelatedly, I'm a bit disappointed about the DS's impending conquest of the PS2's lifetime sales. Software-wise, the system clearly hasn't earned that, though I can console myself with the whole "one household = one console, many handhelds" rationalization.

This has been a disappointing year for jRPGs, hasn't it?

Wii comparisons/PS3 comparisons: What should I do here? Since I already did the comparisons with the early leaked Famitsu numbers yesterday, this would be a bit superfluous. I suppose if I did a Famitsu-to-Famitsu-to-Famitsu comparison I could drop the old Famitsu ones and only do MC-to-MC comparisons here.

DS vs PSP: Weekly shares of 64.8 / 35.2, bringing total shares to 74.3 / 25.7. If DS stopped selling and PSP continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 146.1 weeks (September 27, 2010).

PS3 vs Wii: Weekly shares of 24.9 / 75.1, the first week Wii has tripled PS3 since mid-August. This brings total shares to 26.5 / 73.5. If Wii stopped selling and PS3 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 68.0 weeks (March 30, 2009).

PSP vs Wii: At this week's rates, Wii catches up to PSP in 128.2 weeks (May 25, 2010).

PS2 vs DS: At this week's rates, DS catches up to PS2 in 2.6 weeks (December 27, 2007) at ~20.9 million units apiece.

At week 49, total hardware sales for the year passed 14 million. Not done last year, or presumably ever before.

Famitsu Software Pie data, week of 2007-11-26

DS: 43.7
PS2: 24.7
Wii: 22.3
PS3: 3.2
PSP: 3.1
X360: 2.7
Other: 0.2

Wii Fit isn't enough for Wii to take second place from PS2 this week. However, it does make another off the rare weeks where home console software outsold portable software.

Gaborn said:

Last year DS either did 1.3 or 1.5 million in December depending on whether you look at a 4 or 5 week December. Of course, it's recently been way down this year from last year.

http://joshuajamesslone.name/testsoftware.php?platform=
and fill in GCN/Wii/GBA/DS/PS2/PS3/PSP/Xbox/X360 for the platform. Currently has Famitsu data through the week of November 19-25. Due to a combination of my connection acting shitty tonight and other priorities, I won't be putting the latest Famitsu software data into my database tonight. Tomorrow maybe.

Sure, if you care about sales... but to those who actually play the games it's been a rather great year, Blue Dragon in particular was a favorite of mine (maybe the best RPG I've played since DQ8?), Persona 3 got some great reviews although I haven't played it, Etrian Odyssey on the DS, etc.
