Media Create Sales 7/9 - 7/15

Even though Vink's report has the Wii down for a solid ZERO in stock, Nintendo have really been pushing their consoles out as of late.

This week, I have been buying all kinds of electronic items, traveling back and forth between Yodobashi and Bic Camera. Out of the 5 days I popped into Bic, they had Wiis instock 3 times. Yodo had them in 2 out of 4.

This is quite unprecedented as from its release, I've only even seen a handful of (new) Wiis for sale in Osaka, one of them being the one I bought. Yet this week, there are millions of the things... I guess Nintendo have bee stock piling

Mario Party 8 should comfortably outperform Super Paper Mario... could be a million seller if it's like MP4 (which sold 902K).

Wow, if Monday's NPD correlates with Canada's.....Wii might unofficially pass 360 in my estimates in a month when July NPD comes out. Holy crap.

Seriously? Dang. I think most of us expected it to pass it on the August NPD but I guess if these increased Wii shipments becomes the new norm than July is certainly a possibility.

WOW

3/4ths of the Gamecube's Japanese LTD in 8 months
1/2 of the Gamecube worldwide LTD sales in 8 months

The Wii is definitely on the happy train.

This seems as good a place as any to ask: Which Japan-only DS games that have no shot coming to the US and that someone who doesn't know the language should I ask my girlfriend to get from there? I asked for Ouendan 1/2 and Jump Ultimate Stars. Should I ask for Observation Training? No loli rape sims please.

Observation Training is coming to the US as Flash Focus.

Personally, I think you should go with Mame Goma.

I have that :) Awesome game. I didn't know about Flash Focus though, I'll wait for that one then.

It's not DS but I really, really recommend Dotstream for GBA, the Bit Generations game. If you haven't got it it's completely in English and probably dirt cheep. And it comes in a cool little box.

Wii comparisons: At 33 weeks, Wii is where GCN was at 120.6 weeks (January 1, 2004), where GBA was at 25.2 weeks (September 10, 2001), where DS was at 39.8 weeks (September 2, 2005), where PS2 was (without those online sales) at 43.1 weeks (December 24, 2001), and where PSP was at 64.2 weeks (February 27, 2006).

PS3 comparisons: At 36 weeks, PS3 is where PS2 was at 4.1 weeks (March 26, 2000), where PSP was at 13.1 weeks (March 6, 2005), where GCN was at 16.4 weeks (January 1, 2002), and where Wii was at 5.3 weeks (January 2, 2007).

DS vs PSP: Weekly shares of 79.1 / 20.9, bringing the total shares to 76.3 / 23.7. If DS stopped selling and PSP continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 334.6 weeks (December 12, 2013). I recently bring back this DS vs PSP section out of hibernation because PS3/Wii total ratio is getting very close to the PSP/DS total ratio, so I think it's interesting to see how that develops in the near future.

PS3 vs Wii: Weekly shares of 10.9 / 89.1, Wii's highest share since launch week. Total shares of 24.2 / 75.8. If Wii stopped selling and PS3 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 154.4 weeks (June 30, 2010).

PSP vs Wii: At this week's rates, Wii would catch up to PSP in 36.3 weeks (March 26, 2008).

PS2 vs DS: At this week's rates, DS catches up to PS2 in 18.6 weeks (November 22, 2007) at ~20.90 million apiece.

That is excellent news. Hopefully some of those Wii systems will start showing up outside of the big towns. Did you go anwhere other then Bic and Yodobashi? I would imagine that those two massive stores would be the first to get new systems. But what about the smaller shops? Are they getting any? I hope so, because I have friends here looking for Wiis.

It usually goes like this Big city Big Stores>Big city small stores>Small City big stores>Small city small stores>Famicom Dojo

Absolutely EXCELLENT hardware sales for the Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii AND the Playstation 3.

Why the Playstation 3 you ask (for those who don't have me on ignore)? This is a good time to celebrate, because it marks

THE FIFTH CONSECUTIVE WEEK Wii AND PS3 SALES HAVE INCREASED

Starting week June 12 - June 18
Wii PS3
-------- --------
65,521 9,481
65,582 9,581
73,919 11,914
75,279 12,691
109,854 13,493

Total Wii Increase: 45,352
Total PS3 Increase: 4,717

Coincidentally, the Wii is 11.5 times the PS3 in this department. But a steady increase each week for the PS3 is good news, because when the truly big games hit such as MGS4 and FFXIII and GT5, we might just get ourselves a Next-Gen birth

Anyway, Wii selling 110,000? yikes that's a serious bump, best selling week of the year apart from one (January), I wonder how many get sold next week, also I still cannot believe that it is going to sell GC LTD in Japan in a year, that is just totally scary.

If DQ:S had an 80% sell through, that must mean the majority of places sold out, I wonder how quickly stocks will come in, and what sort of legs it shows, I would love to see it show the legs Zelda:pH is at the moment, but I think it'll sell about half that (60k week 2, 40k week 3 and 4 etc).

Oh dear lord, you again, the rises in PS3 in the last week would barely count as statistical noise if it weren't for the fact that PS3 has done that badly recently, a 4000 unit PW rise in sales over 5 weeks is not a good thing, especially as over the same period Wii sold through 44k more. (Also, 109,854 - 65,521 = 44,333 and 13,493 - 9,481 = 4,012)

Ah well, people must clutch at something, lowered expectations and all that, that said, next week is Minna no Golf week, so I expect a Gundabump style increase, 50k tops, though, and will fade as quickly as it came.

hmmm...add up all the Ps3 sales from last 5 consecutive weeks it still doesnt match the Wii's total 5 weeks ago (let alone come close to the full 5 weeks total)

So I wouldnt call it a "next gen birth" just yet

Actually, I take that back, since the Wii Is next gen. but among HD consoles, not yet.

Why would that be so bad? Super Paper Mario is a good game in it's own right. It's not like it's being outsold by "Horsez". Now that would be a travesty.

Well, Nintendo said they were dissapointed with Zelda sales.
I wanted it to remain the highest selling "real" game (See: not wii sports/wii play) for as long as possible, so it looks like the pinnacle of performance for these types of titles. If titles like Wario Ware and even Paper Mario sold less, it may give more weight to the actual performance of ZTP. The crazy success of Phantom Hourglass isn't helping much for the ZTP (Which I prefer) anyway, so.

Yea... I know, its a stretch. ::shrug::

No, it means that if sales increase by 6% (Median value of the increases over the last 4 weeks), every week for 20 weeks, it would sell 43,273 during that week using compound calculations, how the hell did you get 100,000 out of it?
