Slow time of the year. CC releasing now is a work of marketing genius. PSP will probably outsell DS next week (Not evcn MH2 managed that,) and that will look really good sales-wise.

After CC, what are the next major releases on ds/psp?

DS will get DQIX in early 08 I think.

That's really all I can think of, PSP has nothing now that CC is out:p

The tide has indeed turned. The people have chosen, and the video game duo that will soon be leading is the GCN/GBA. These are the systems that are on the rise, as opposed to all the other failures dropping like flies.

Veteran Sales Agers- is there any legitimate reason to be concerned about Wii sales, or is this completely typical of the time of year?

Yeah PSP is essentially dead software wise now that Crisis Core is out finally. Maybe we'll find out more at TGS but at the moment everything looks bleak.

DS you have DQ & FF remakes alongside DQIX, Tales of Innocence and then a lull of sorts unless stuff is shown at TGS again. Nintendo's 1st party efforts have dwindled on the DS because they don't really need to be trying to push it as hard as before I suppose. Then again you have Level 5 pumping out Layton and INAZUMA!

What the hell happened?

My money's on the Wii now having *finally* started its summer lull, which had been masked in the weeks before the drops by the overwhelming supply constraints; now those supply issues have cleared, in the next few weeks we'll see what the Wii settles down to for its general, nothing-special-going-on week's sales.

Right now, that's still significantly more than the PS3 and 360.

We've returned to DS outselling all other systems combined and that makes me happy even if it's only for a week. :D Hail to the king.

All systems drop from 20-25% so this is more of an overall gaming demand trend as opposed to a wii demand trend.

Not especially concerning on its own. Everything seemed to have dropped, and the Taru Jesus only knows why. Honestly, we probably won't be able to make heads or tails of it until after Xmas because everything should start picking up speed soon.

Though we can say that the Wii supply has finally met demand. Take that to mean either apocalypse or be amazed at the fact that it took this long.

Oh yeah I forgot about all the other ports the PSP is getting, and the DS' FFIV and DQIV remakes.

PSP needs more original games tho (or remakes instead of ports).

Isn't it getting a Tales game, ASH, FFTA2, and some other stuff too?

And Deltora Quest, which looks pretty interesting to me.

The streams have crossed again, in the not-so-good direction. Blimey what a week!
Expect incoming PR: "With their high expectations they've set themselves up for failure. We succeeded because all we wanted to do was outsell the GBA, and we fuckin' did".

On a different note, when was the last time DS was this low?
DS Lite was nearly this low on the week of March 26 this year (79,897). The last time it was actually lower was... the week of August 14, 2006 (74,495). Other than that it's only been lower launch week (68,438), though at that time original DS was still racking up fairly big sales.

Total sales of 150,666, which sounds like a DS weekly number now. The last time it was lower was... the week of August 14, 2006.
GCN: 922
GBA: 20
GBASP: 3,823
GBM: 2,266
DS: 712
DSL: 74,495
PS2: 26,833
PSP: 41,535
Xbox: 6
X360: 1204
Total: 152,106

Since the release of Wii, the lowest week other than this week was... err, it appears the previous two weeks.

This time of year tends to be a bit slow, but this seems to be a bigger slump than usual. DS and Wii were previously amazing-huge, though, so this is only as worrisome as them acting regular-huge for a change.

I think the PS2 was even lower in it's first year. 15k - 20k or something.

29K for Wii

I never thought I would EVER see sales that low. Wii has been brought back to Earth and now Nintendo can start making real games for the system.

No, it doesn't. Off the top of my head there's Mingol 2, Final Fantasy Dissidia (20th Anniversary title), Gundam and Fate/Stay Night title for the Xmas season.

There'll be PSP software report in the next Famitsu - look forward to it.

Wii comparisons: At 41 weeks, Wii is where GCN was at 170.7 weeks (December 17, 2004), where GBA was at 36.3 weeks (November 27, 2001), where DS was at 49.2 weeks (November 7, 2005), where PS2 was at 54.0 weeks (March 10, 2001), and where PSP was at 79.4 weeks (June 13, 2006).

PS3 comparisons: At 44 weeks, PS3 is where PS2 was at 5.0 weeks (April 1, 2000), where PSP was at 16.8 weeks (April 1, 2005), where GCN was at 19.5 weeks (January 23, 2002), and whee Wii was at 6.2 weeks (January 8, 2007).

DS vs PSP: Weekly shares of 83.3 / 16.7 bring the total to 76.5 / 23.5. If DS stopped selling and PSP continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 858.1 weeks (February 19, 2024), a new record for this stat.

PS3 vs Wii: Weekly shares of 31.3 / 68.7, tinily more in Wii's favor than last week. Total shares are now 24.2 / 75.8. If Wii stopped selling and PS3 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 181.6 weeks (March 4, 2011).

PSP vs Wii: At this week's rates, Wii catches up to PSP in 175.9 weeks (January 23, 2011).

PS2 vs DS: At this week's slower rate, DS catches up to PS2 in 22.5 weeks (February 13, 2008) at ~21.0 million apiece.

A little fluff between the ears never did any harm...
Am I the only one who would love to see the reaction on GAF if the Wii really did just suddenly stall completely at 4 million?

There was no drop like this last year around this time, so I don't know how to explain this. Of course the only things to really compare were the ps2 and psp. There's kinda a drought of games I guess, but there are some decently big ones out for each system.

I say Sony and Nintendo are diverting shipments of everything to america to meet demand here, and that's why sales are low.

I still say it's a drop in consumer spending due to the recent political crisis.

*looks at hw numbers*

Hardware - This Week | Last Week | YTD | LTD
1. NDS - 77,488 | 94,339 | 5,267,004 | 19,272,683
2. WII - 29,088 | 39,371 | 2,619,238 | 3,538,881
3. PSP - 15,564 | 22,196 | 1,385,230 | 5,917,359
4. PS2 - 13,360 | 14,280 | 559,434 | 20,714,293
5. PS3 - 13,248 | 18,068 | 675,170 | 1,132,728
6. 360 - 1,286 | 1,635 | 142,644 | 407,346

8. NGC - 82 | 73 | 9,547 | 4,179,015

DS numbers are still very, very good. 29k for Wii? That's lower than the 30-40k that the PSP Fat used to manage.

I think it's time for Vinnk report.

I meant about the "tide turning" thing.

The Wii's sales will drop in draught times, but the "tide" isn't turning.
