Is 85 K for #1 and 32K for #2 good enough for Sony ? IMO, it is considered failure, but I don't know much about Japan's volume and / or Sony's expectation, so I could be wrong.
Considering how many DVD's they sell it's very low. DVD's are very hot over there (no surprise).

Shortages? People anticipating the FF pack? a 1 missing?

A "1" is definitely missing there or some shortage issues.

How else do you drop by 60k in one week, just prior to the arrival of the second-most anticipated title in all Japan?

Wow at DS software sales, absolutely unbelievable legs for NSMB, Awesome legs for Mario Kart (over 20k in a week, 9 months after release), great legs for Project Hacker and Star Fox Command.
Also touch generation softwares all doing great and its established as a fact now. BT, BT2, Tetris, cooking Navi and English Training will be in the charts for a long time.
AC WW and Tamagotchi 2 sales are great too, Tamagotchi 2 will be another million seller definitely.

glad to heard people isn't stupid anymore
Cooking Navi is doing as I expected.

Touch generations = more than gaming.

I'm coming Nintendo :D

I think this is just the calm before the storm. Bare in mind we have the FF3 pack coming soon, FF3 itself and obviously the behemoth that is Pokémon.

Nintendo are pulling back supplies for the impending apocalypse.

Nintendo is probably just undershipping the DS Lite purposely so that they can provide enough units to meet demand for the Final Fantasy III and Pokemon Diamond/Pearl launches.

If there's any right in the world, Tales of the Tempest will perform about as well as Tamagotchi 2 is... no chance of that, though. But Tamagotchi 2 is pretty assured to pass the million mark, I think.

Mario Hoops is doing really well. It's steamrolled past Mario Tennis Advance now, with a 75k lead. Not bad at all. I wonder how long it'll keep selling?

What's the sell date for FF3, by the way?

They maybe holding back stock for either FF or Pokemon.

Random guessing to follow:

Previous four weeks
~275K
~175K
~165K
~200K

This week: 75K

Let's say they can push out 200K per week, but they held back 125K this week for the FFIII release.

125K (held back from this week)
200K (regular weekly release)
100K (limited edition FFIII DS)
------
425K for FFIII week

All sold, too.

I had been thinking that the shortages would be over by next Spring. Too optimistic? This is crazy.

nice sales for the awesome rhythm tengoku, could end up selling over 200k. looks a likely candicate for a sequel, which would be amazing on wii or ds :)

nsmb is now ~2.84 million! over 100k for another week, with a huge drop in hardware sales is incredible!.

acww has hardly dropped from last weeks sales, no doubt thanks to the new promotion, it's ~3.12 million.

cooking navi and tamagotchi 2 both look like potential million sellers.

That's amazing for NSMB. I never thought that it would have the potential to reach Super Mario Land. I was anticipating about 1.5 million in sales at the point it was released (but I also wasn't figuring on the DSL hardware's unprecedented sales). After seeing first week sales of Tamagotchi 2 and it's 40% sell through rate, I thought that would drop off pretty quick. Seeing it outpacing the original now makes me believe that it will be a definite million seller. Rhythm Tengoku has outsold seller's predictions.

So what is the news with the hardware this week? Has DSL been shorted or are the stacking up? I don't think having extra units around will help FFIII's sales, but maybe that's what SE thought. Meanwhile, the PSP has another pretty good week for hardware and Gundam, while slowing down considerably, seems to have the potential to hit 500k. I'm going to assume that most of the PSP's sold are for emulation/porn, because between it's software sales and it's UMD sales I just don't see where the consumer interest would come from. I imagine at this point that Sony is actually making a pretty decent profit on the hardware.

I know they have. From 1.x million to 2.2 million the month, no? But it's the quietest time of the year, and they are still selling every system they produce. If you add total sales for Europe, US and Japan, you get a 2million month total right now. And they still have massive shortages in Japan. What on earth are they planning on doing when it's christmas and Pokémon is released? :s

Nintendo is D00m3d!
No really; they need to "up" the production again to 3.5 mill for the holidays which are fast approaching.

1.8M for Japan / Asia
.8M for Europe
.9M for NA

powerless or are they? o_O
NSMB is at around 3 million units now and still selling 100,000 per week. Could we see total sales pass 5 even 6 million?

so how many games with over 1m units sold is the DS on course to have by end of 2006? NSMB looks destined to hit at least 4m...I wonder what kind of numbers it could do without the release of FF3 and Pokemon to dent sales

Since there are going to be more DSL's present for sale next week, I wouldnt be surprised to see it stay above 100k(mario) even with FF3. Same goes for whenever PokeTON hits. As for my prediction i think Mario will do 4.2 to 4.6 million; Could go higher, but that is very dependent on what the DS situation is next year. Wii and PS3 will put a dent into DS early next year it just depends on how much of a dent.

there's no question nintendo's in trouble with ds, in the sense they've created a market they can't satisfy.

2, 3 months of shortages, fair enough, but it's been nearly six of under delivery in hardware! moving 100k from here to there, as they have been doing around big game releases, isn't doing anything.

at the rate ds lite is selling around the world nintendo has no chance of building any stock for the year end rush. even with new home console hardware launching ds is likely to be the most wanted, least available item come nov/dec.

i'm sure nintendo could ship 3 million a month, maybe 4, if they could produce them.

Looks like the new AC campaign worked a treat, wonder how long this upsurge will last. Surprised that Mario still managed to sell over 100k with such a drop in hardware. I can definitely see 5m by the end of the year.

Added totals for AC and NSMB. Absolutely amazing. I can't help but notice Mario Kart DS hanging on pretty nicely. I predict 2 Million by the end of the year, which would put it in line with MK64. Tetris DS is going to get there for sure, Cooking Navi has a great chance, and I'd even be willing to gamble on Pokemon Ranger.

And with 100K magically lost from last week, and the FFIII bundle, I think sales for the following week will be even greater than the week of NSMB's release.

If DS sold only 75,000 this week, then the bastards at Nintendo withheld stock. They just want 250,000+ next week

If its 175,000, then continue as usual.

And ****, how often can you debate if a sales number is 100,000 short? :lol

I guess with the original xbox.

yeah, i think pokémon ranger has a shot a million.

i've been checking the performance of the new (9th) movie in japan and it's been another success. it's been out for 5 weeks (debuting at no. 2) and is now moving back up the chart.

Well as of last week, Mario Kart DS is now actually tracking ahead of MK64 and should easily do 2m- maybe even beat MK64's 2.24m.

Cooking Navi, Tamogotchi 2, Pokemon Ranger, Tetris should all do 1m.

That would bring the total million sellers upto 17 by around the end of the year or so (current sales in brackets):

Animal Crossing: Wild World (3.36m)
Brain Training 2 (3.34m)
New Super Mario Bros (3.00m)
Brain Training (2.96m)
Mario Kart DS (1.67m)
English Training (1.46m)
Nintendogs (1.36m)
Brain Flex (1.32m)
Tamogotchi (1.14m)
Wario Ware Touched (1.04m)
Super Mario 64 DS (0.99m)
Tetris DS (0.86m)
Pokemon Ranger (0.71m)
Tamogotchi 2 (0.41m)
Cooking Navi (0.38m)

Plus

Final Fantasy III
Pokemon Diamond / Pearl

Well, what I've just said, 16 / 17 million sellers :D

Sales something like:

Animal Crossing: Wild World (3.36m) - 4.00m
Brain Training 2 (3.34m) - 4.25m
New Super Mario Bros (3.00m) - 4.45m (3rd / 4th highest sales ever in a calendar year- depending on Pokemon D/P)
Brain Training (2.96m) - 3.55m
Mario Kart DS (1.67m) - 2.00m
English Training (1.46m) - 1.80m
Nintendogs (1.36m) - 1.50m
Brain Flex (1.32m) - 1.45m
Tamogotchi (1.14m) - 1.20m
Wario Ware Touched (1.04m) - 1.15m
Super Mario 64 DS (0.99m) - 1.10m
Tetris DS (0.86m) - 1.20m
Pokemon Ranger (0.71m) - 0.95m (close, but maybe not quite by the end of the year)
Tamogotchi 2 (0.41m) - 1.15m
Cooking Navi (0.38m) - 1.05m

Plus

Final Fantasy III - 1.10m
Pokemon Diamond / Pearl - 5.35m

So 4 games over 4m !! Definitely a record after only ~26 months on the market

Man WTF. I am shocked that NSMB did over 100,000k for another week. Am I crazy or are the "new gamers" Nintendo is drawing in picking this game up as well?

This game may end up at what I guessed earlier at or around 5+million at this rate.

I really think that NSMB has a chance to sell to 1/3 the installed base of DS in Japan over the life of the console. I think it could sell upwards of 6 million by, let's say, the end of 2008. Nintendo really needs to learn from past mistakes and release a budget series of games for the DS. By budget, I mean a player's choice type lineup. Maybe mid 2007 drop the price of Mario Kart, NSMB, AC, and other early releases to around $20-$25 USD equivalent in Japan. Around the time they drop the handheld to $99.
