That's so classic.

We all know your horse owns literally the entire island of Japan, OK? And you don't need to get all down on the prototypical Xbox Bald Space Marine Murder Simulator breaking the top 10, OK? It's a big deal for us, alright? We all know Nintendo sells 30k copies of Mario Party Ware: Ruby 8 every second, but success can be a relative thing. Journey of a thousand miles, all that shit.
I know most of you went a little crazy during the PSX/PS2 years, but goddamn, show a little decorum.
Donnie said:Actually what people are discussing is wether or not 360 can reach a life to date sales number of 500,000 within the year. Considering about 300,000 were sold before the year began the discussion is in effect "can 360 sell 200,000 in 2007".. its even sadder then you first suspected
If you think I am emotionally invested in the success of failure of any corporate entity that sees me as nothing more than a walking wallet, you are wrong. I am just saying that MS is beyond the underdog in Japan. They are never going to achieve any sort of mainstream success. We all know this. But maybe they can do some sort of niche thing. Sell a million units or two, become the crazy hardcore gaijin box or something. As a fan of the style of games that tend to get tossed on Xbox, I think that would be great. Japanese folks making some money, Japanese folks making some Xbox games, pretty much good times all around.DeaconKnowledge said:Pretty much...

This is a snails pace. One title that scratches the top 10 every couple of months isn't go to do anything for Microsoft long term.
Gears selling 30k isn't going to open some magical floodgate for development, especially with the Wii and DS kicking so much ass. Hell, developers would sooner gravitate to the PSP or GBA than tackle an MS system in Japan without some SERIOUS incentive, and a 30k software sell through for a multi-million dollar budgeted game surely isn't it.
This is like MS taking the first step up Everest. It's nice, but let's be real here.

Topping off to like, less than 300k?
Bungalow Bob said:There´s one very important thing that people are forgetting here, and that´s the relative lauch dates of the original XBOX and 360 relative to the market leader (PS2 last gen, and Wii this gen).
If you don´t think the XBOX brand has made significant progress, check out the original´s market share when it reached 300 000, and the take a look at the 360´s market share right now. It might not make you say wow, but at least hmm....
I´d say the 360 is well on track to sell a slightly more than pathetic 1.5M+
Lindsay said:More like 200k. And yeah pretty much. They are "rpgs" after all. Vol.1 and 2 only spent one week in the top 10. Vol.1 spent 7 weeks in the top 50 while Vol.2 was in the top 50 for only 4 weeks. So I would guess about half a million for the series in Japan when its all said and done. Sure wish we could still get US data. ;_;

Seeing as MS failures in Nippon are literally the stuff of legend at this point, I think begrudging them their tiny, insignificant victories, like a semi-regular spot on the top 10 for the last couple months, is pretty petty. Petty's not way to go through life.
