Media Create Sales: June 29-July 5, 2009

It's not from Sinobi but:

2,877,000 for DQIX, Day-one. I am unsure the source, so it goes in the rumor pile for now. Unbelievable if true, though.

Would that be the highest first day for a DQ game ever?

That would also be the highest first week ever.
There is no credible source out there, that would already deliver first day sales, though. So don't give this number too much credit.

The best first week game is Final Fantasy VIII with 2.5 millions (Famitsu data, 4 days), after it's DQ VIII with 2.24 millions (Famitsu, 2 days). But we have numbers only since 1996.

About Dragon Quest numbers, you can find all Famitsu data here. It's in french, but everybody can understand the charts I think.

If that number is true, then that is ALOT of copies that were sold on day-one :) I am not quite sure what to belive, but seeing how popular the main Dragon Quest games are and seeing how popular the DS is, i guess that these numbers can be true :)

I hope those numbers are true!

I seriously doubt it. Anyone else remember the ridiculous early numbers we heard out of the Pokemon Diamond/Pearl launch?

Expect real numbers on Tuesday from a Famitsu news item.

That makes no sense.

Look at the # attached to the DQ.

If it's sold 2.167m and shipped 3m it would make more sense...but then that's 72% sell-through, not 77%. :S

I believe the 3 million is the LTD at time of the reporting rather than the shipped numbers.

With the userbase of the DS, no easy game cart sharing, and DQ newbie promotion, this is probably going to be the best selling DQ game yet. It might even be a contender for best-selling single SKU game in Japan.

EDIT: I REGRET nothing!

I don't believe the rumored DQ numbers but there are a number of reasons I do expect big sales from DQ9. First one is the 1 ingame save slot which should force some people into buying a copy because they are impatient or something. The multiplayer option should also make sure people will want their own copy. Coupled with the already huge DS userbase and you have a winning formula. I also believe the expanded market will make this title sell longer than any other DQ.

Personally I was expecting 10 million day one.

The PS1 game was on the charts for ~7 months.

Didn't know that. 7 months is very good for a DQ game and hard to beat. I guess it all depends on how the word of mouth is on DQ9. Usually RPG's are not that fun in short demo sessions but I can imagine DQ doing it better than a lot of other RPG's. I could also imagine a lot of new gamers moving onto DQ much easier than any other RPG.

Honestly, it should have sold 2 copies to every DS owner in Japan.
At least 2, more likely 3. The players will be used to having 3 save locations as usual in DQ games, so since DQIX is only offering 1 I expected every DS owner to buy 3 copies of the game. Strange that didn't happen.

Well, obviously the economy is stopping them from buying those extra copies.
Really a shame, too. Now Square will have to shut down production on all DS games because of this.

I've heard they've already turned around a shipment of 2 million DQIX carts due to these poor sales. They're all to be reflashed and replaced with Infinite Space by Sega.

I saved before and married each one. :D I finished the Bianca one first, now playing through Deborah, who is amazing for the amout of times she will insult everyone in the game. >_>

I really hope DQVI makes it in between the wait for this to come Stateside.

The PS1 game launched in August and was on the charts until March helped by December being well after launch. With a July launch for the DS game, I can definitely see it giving the PS1 game a run for most time on the charts. :)

No, the Square Tax has been reduced a bit in recent years.

unless squarenix want to make anywhere like as much money as they did off previous installments and then i could see them tryin to charge 200 bucks

Not actually that important
Uhmmm... I don't believe those numbers.
Could be close to that in the end, I just don't think those are real and instead just an "educated guess" (lol)

No official numbers yet? What the hell...

It's been said multiple times across various DQIX related threads that the numbers are unlikely to release until Tuesday. (They might leak earlier though, but why are you banking on that?)
