What's a "similar thing"? The SNES went from second to first at the end of its generation, and unless Nintendo continues to fuck up the Wii from here on out I still find it quite unlikely that PS3 will pull off an equivalent (i.e. position-shifting) feat.

Right now I think the best-case scenario absent further future increases is a shift from irrelevant to relevant, which is basically exactly the same as what the PSP did.

I mean in Japan, not the US. In Japan it's pretty much historically been one console dominating the rest, consistently.

I'm trying to find where Nintendo will put New Super Mario Bros. Wii and I see that there aren't many ''open'' weeks in November. These are the major titles Wii has.

05/11/09: Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Nintendo)
12/11/09: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (Square Enix)
19/11/09: Samurai Warriors 3 (Koei)
26/11/09: Naruto: Shippuden Ryujinki (Takara Tomy)

There is only one date: 26/11/09
The fact that Crystal Bearers slipped two weeks earliers from this date almost confirms it. Either way at Kyoto event or October Conference Nintendo will announce when the game will come out.
Samurai Warriors 3 is December now. I doubt NSMB will be released much later in Japan than it is here (Nov. 15).

Would NOJ release NSMB Wii in Japan after it's released in NA? That seems strange to me.

Actually, why not release NSMB Wii on Nov. 5 alongside Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games? One could help the other, really.

Other than that, November looks like an impressive month for Nintendo and the Wii. When are the other biggish titles - esp. RE: Darkside Chronicles and Sengoku Basara 3 - going to be released, anyway?

The only game that could be a chart-topper would be Tekken 6, I think. But since that's multiplatform now who knows.

Last I saw the charts the DS is still dominating the rest.

the latter is planned to be released in 2010 for both wii and PS3

people should not underestimate Wininng Eleven 2010.
Actually PS2 version is not planned for Japan, so probably all the old users will move definitely on PS3.
don't forget last year WE2009 sold around 400k on PS3 and over 200k on PS2

Actually, NSMB for DS was released in Japan 10 days after the U.S.

By the way, Darkside Chronicles is due in Japan on January 14, 2010. NA/EU release date is still the end of November. I honestly can't think of why Capcom did this, other than not wanting it to be swallowed by the holidays (afraid of FFXIII? lulz). But I was always under the impression that Biohazard games did that to other series and not the other way around. Now my sales expectation for Darkside Chronicles went from being reasonably better than REUC to barely matching it.

SM3 is Dec? According to??

And I agree that 11/26 seems like the most logical date for NSMB Wii. I doubt they would release it so close to Mario and Sonic on 11/5.

Wow January?? When was this announced? That seems a bit dumb considering how well RE:UC did in November 07.

B-b-but guys, I was told that Vesperia wouldn't do go over Eternal Sonata's debut sales for sure :(

.... that aside, great numbers overall. Should round 400k or so in Japan.
Are you still talking Vesperia at the end? Because Tales is usually very frontloaded. The exceptions tend to be old rereleases or DS games. Console Tales tend to gain 40-60%, so 300-350K seems the likely range for Vesperia.

Wait so SM3 to December is confirmed? If so, I'm thinking. NSMB 11/19

"Fucked the Wii's potential." Is that better?

I'd still prefer "has fucked the Wii's potential", or something that implies that, although Nintendo has made decisions that will limit their success, there isn't much of a difference between what they will achieve now and what they could have achieved. Either way, I think you're still being too strong and determined about the matter.

Yeah 15k a week or less is just stunning.

I don't think that's exactly relevant. The Wii is selling shit now, but the present doesn't matter as much when we're talking about the future.

Is Pokemon still supply constrained?
If so, I imagine that's probably what's keeping it from tracking ahead of Diamond/Pearl.

.

Pro Evo, Tekken, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, Multi Raid Special, End of Eternity, new Dragon Ball Z game. Depends on your definition of "biggish" I suppose.

Where are the people yelling install base difference? Uncharted 2 thread?
i think the fascination with the numbers have more to do with the game being a late port of a 360 exclusive... and still whooping the 360 version. common opinion was that the late port wouldn't sell much because nobody wanted to wait a year to play a game. obviously plenty of people were willing to wait, and it's likely that namco would have seen better sales if it had been multiplatform/ps3 exclusive from the start.

ToV did a bit better than I expected.

Go SaGa! I don't care if it's on the DS, make a new one after this. :D

Either way, every HD Tales should be multiplatform from now own.

I think they're going to do this, especially if they were planning on doing the same thing tri-Ace did (and if RPGs like FFXIII and EoE turn out for the better by being multiplatform), but we'll see.

Wow the PS3 is only 100K from outselling the Wii's YTD at this time of year.

Who would have guessed it?

maybe the PS3 will surpass the Wii's YTD next month!

I don't think Nintendo is announcing any other title for this year and I think Graces is next year, probably January or February, if it's released this year, I expect it to be first week of December at the very latest, I'm sure they won't want to go head to head with FFXIII.
