MH3 has been a huge success for Capcom, basically. They not only shipped and will sell through 1 Million units, but they do indeed collect on online fees. Interestingly enough, at Bic now, if you buy a Wii system with MH3, you get 3000 Nintendo points free.

The last 100K copies of MH3 sitting around will be gone within a few months on the whim of its legs, the Wii price drop, holiday boosts and post-release promos such as the one mentioned above. The only thing I can think of that will kill the game is MHP3.

That said, I think Capcom would have loved to and expected to ship more than the 1 Million they initially did, especially since WW expectations were around 2 Million. But, they should take what they can get at this point. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think MH3 is now actually ahead of every PSP game on the market with the exception of the MH games, having surpassed the most recent number we have for Dissidia.

They also had no other real choice of where to put it. Putting it on the HD consoles would have meant a much larger budget and a decent chance it would have sold less. Plus as is they can basically just port it to PSP the real bread and butter for this series.

Neither HD console have a shot of reaching that chart.

Nice to see a PSP game, MHP2G there looking awesome.

Another aspect to consider with regard to MH3 being on Wii is that the potential is there for it to sell more than the PSP version could sell in other parts of the world, America in particular. High profile Wii games often end up in the top 10 in America; seldom is that the case with PSP software. Just something to consider.

Outside of a completely random guess how could anything lead you to think this? The wii price drop still hasn't even happened and the PS3 is still riding it's price drop hike.

Call it an educated guess based on where Wii sales settled out at post-black/MH3. On the PS3 side, it's more of a hunch guess.

Another aspect to consider with regard to MH3 being on Wii is that the potential is there for it to sell more than the PSP version could sell in other parts of the world, America in particular. High profile Wii games often end up in the top 10 in America; seldom is that the case with PSP software. Just something to consider.

In America a Wii game does not have to hit Top 10 to sell a boatload btw, there are too many examples to list at the moment.

But I agree, Capcom wants to make MH a big series worldwide. They have the best potential going via Wii and then port that to the PSP since that makes $$$ in JP and the Wii has a much greater base in the US and EU to "try" and make it a massive series

Plus by the time a Wii HD or the next Wii comes along that is comparable to the HD twins Capcom could just go multiplatform with the Wii as the lead sku (same as now) and just have 4 different options (Wii/PS3/360/PSP)

People forget the cost of development on PSP is far lower than on Wii as well. It all kind of offsets things, with PSP costs being lower than Wii, plus selling more copies, while the Wii is raking in online fees. To what extent, no one here can truly say outside of capcom.

Selling now 8k a week, I have a hard time seeing them doing another 100k to reach a million any time soon unless holiday bump is massive for them.

I would not be suprised if Pokemon did not chart next week, I swear I went to 5 or 6 stores within the last few days looking for this game and it has been sold out all week. And from what I have seen there has been no restock, if there was one I missed out on it.

This was the case last week too. Sold out until Friday with Nintendo restocking Saturday. This will be the scenario and for this week unless they have completely run out of shipments.

Didn't realize DQIX was already the best selling DQ game ever. And looks like it will also become the first non-Nintendo game to sell 4 million in Japan.

I think FFXII might be [url=http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=14213248&postcount=52]missing[/url] the International Version this time.

FC - 9
SF - 9
DS - 9
GB - 6
PSX - 6
Wii - 4
PS2 - 3
GBA - 2
PSP - 1

Is the 50th a tiebreaker for SF?

but are psp development costs lower than those on wii? Personally i would've thought they'd be quite similar
also dont forget the wii price cut next week could give mh3 a boost

Wow at Vesperia. Great numbers for a great game. And quite the drop off for MH3.
Ye, MH3 dropped some places in the Media Create chart as you say indeed, but i wonder how much the sale itself for MH3 dropped this week. Last week the number 10 game in Media Create Top 10 sold 12,510 copies, but the number 10 game in this week's Media Create Top 10 sold 30,786. I think this is one of the biggest reasons why MH3 dropped some places in this weeks Media Create Top 30.

I think that the PS3 sales might be a bit down in next week, but i dont know if it will be a similar drop like the black Wii had. There was this "Silver Week" vacation in Japan this week, and if this vacation is like other vaction periods in Japan where people usually buy more hardware and software, maybe this could keep the PS3 (and the other gaming system as well) hardware sales from not dropping so much?

Ye, i think that it is a possibility that we will see the lower Wii sales ever next week as you say, but i wonder if the Silver Week vacation could keep the Wii sales from not hitting the lowest Wii sales ever? If i am not mistaken, the Wii pricedrop wasnt announced before on the 24th of September either (which was on this Thursday), so there were 4 days of sales before the announced Wii pricedrop. There were some rumors about a Wii pricedrop before the 24th of September though, but unfortunately i dont know how much rumors affect the sales.

What is the lowest Wii sales for one week by the way?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think MH3 is now actually ahead of every PSP game on the market with the exception of the MH games, having surpassed the most recent number we have for Dissidia.

Monster Hunter 3 has surpassed (by ~660 through Sep 13) the last number we have for Dissidia. However, Dissidia was selling ~600 per week the last time we got an update on it. Therefore, it should be fully ahead with this week's rounded numbers or next week's numbers.

#2 is Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal.

[QUOTE=The_lascar]For Gold & Silver, what are these numbers ?_?[/QUOTE]

Gold/Silver/Crystal numbers from before Crystal stopped selling. Using the Crystal number from 2 weeks before that number is through, the combined total is actually [i]at least[/i] 7,944,498, but probably ~9K more.

[QUOTE=test_account]What is the lowest Wii sales for one week by the way?[/QUOTE]

In MC, it's 13,221 from Apr 13-19, 2009.

Huh? Creating an HD engine just for a game sounds like very, very stupid reasoning.

They have a PS360 engine and a Wii engine now, the costs are sunk on both, so there's actually no specific factor involved in pushing either one towards necessarily being used over the other. It's not actually economically beneficial to reuse the HD engine just because they have it.

Considering Vesperia will sell 300k+ on PS3 alone, I think we will probably see another Tales game on it.

So, serious question: do you think continuing to dilute the Tales brand by putting it on, literally, all five current consoles, to the point where "300k+" is considered good sales for the series, is a good idea?

I'd like to automate it and some time I'll do it, but unfortunately right now I don't have the time to make it. I extract the data from excel to wordpad and manually fix the spaces. It takes a little time to make the chart the first time but it's a matter of seconds when I update the following weeks.

I just realized that, with the latest data from Famitsu, PS3 and Wii Fit have crossed streams again more than one year after it happened for the first time:
Code:
  Week PS3 Wii Fit

08/05/12: 2,074,000 2,040,000
08/05/19: 2,082,000 2,084,000
.
.
.
09/09/07: 3,486,000 3,525,000
09/09/14: 3,541,000 3,530,000
PS3 is a little fighter. Right before Wii Fit Plus is out and we lose track of the balance boards, making it hard to compare again. Perfect timing. Hehe

I don't know how to make funny graphs, though...

os7lme.jpg

Now, I saw people on 2ch plotting PS3 vs Poke Walker. Can't the poor PS3 catch a break?

And FFXIII would have to surpass everyone's expectations to be on that list.

So, Tales of Graces is coming in December. I'm guessing Namco's smart enough to release it during a different week than FF XIII? Anyway, what are people here expecting from this title?

Also, considering all of the bellowing that's been going on in this thread, Nintendo certainly seems to have a good fall/winter line-up for the Wii - along with the price drop.

It'll be interesting to see how this holiday season pans out - esp. for DS, Wii and PS3...

I think it will sell around 170k first week, and go on to sell somewhere between 250k-300k.

I think the more interesting numbers will be The Crystal Bearers because it's a wild card of sorts.

I don't think that's "safe" to say at all, especially considering that I'm certain a number of these PS3 purchases are double-dipping, much like people double-dipped on the DC of ToDR.

We've established that Namco has no fucking clue what they're doing and at best a questionable skill at determining what will actually make money, but given the dev-cost delta I think any rational publisher would never look back if Graces hits 300k or above. (And if not, I'd still peg the PSP as a better cost:benefit option going forward.)

(Again, I'm not seriously predicting we definitely won't see another HD Tales, I'm mostly just making fun of stupid Scamco.)

I think it's profitable--I mean, we all don't know, but it seems to be. 210k on 360 in Japan, nearly 150k on 360 in US, ??? on 360 in UK, one week 225k on PS3, ??? on PS3 in US, ??? on PS3 in UK.

It will be interesting to see how well ToG does.

Why so low? It's the next main Tales title right? When a late port (+ addons) can sell 215k first week on a less successful console I expect at least a bit more.

I'm pretty sure that all Tales Studio games are profitable. Since now 7 years they pump out more and more games with pretty much the same staff size, and all those Namco producers involved with Tales Studio games also climbed the career ladders a lot in these years indicating that those Tales Studio games fare also financially better than most Namco games within Japan.

kind of off-topic, but: if the main HD Tales game came out in aug 08 (Vesperia, of course), is it unreasonable to assume the next one might be out at the end of 10? Wasn't that the duration between Symphonia and Abyss, or am I incorrect?

I don't know if these are all "main" games, though. :lol

SFC Phantasia - 12/25/1995
PS1 Destiny - 12/23/1997 (~2 yrs)
PS1 Eternia - 11/30/2000 (~3 yrs)
PS2 Destiny 2 - 11/28/2002 (~2 yrs)
GCN Symphonia - 8/29/2003 (~9 months)
PS2 Rebirth - 12/16/2004 (~16 months)
PS2 Legendia - 8/25/2005 (~9 months)
PS2 Abyss - 12/15/2005 (~4 months)
NDS Tempest - 10/26/2006 (~1 yr)
NDS Innocence - 12/6/2007 (~1 yr)
360 Vesperia - 8/7/2008 (~9 months)
NDS Hearts - 12/18/2008 (~4 months)

From recent trends, Graces being a year after Hearts isn't out of the question.

We'll know that answer at this year's Jump Festa, I guess.

I don't know if these are all "main" games, though.

"main" is kind of a stretch, but usually main console Tales is intended as a Tales made by Symphonia/Vesperia team.

Perhaps. But I wouldn't have guessed a year-late PS3 port would be outdoing the DS and PSP games, either. With series so spread out, it's not always easy to guess how the different demographics will play out.

However, I'd note that getting 300K from a 170K first week would be like ungodly legs for a console Tales. At least, before a Best release.

I'm not sure it's safe to guess that's a repeating time pattern, but yeah, it was a couple years.
2003-08 GCN Symphonia
2004-09 PS2 Symphonia
2005-12 PS2 Abyss

They spent some time porting Symphonia to the PS2 (dunno if it was really the whole team or not though) in 2004, then released Abyss in 2005.

On the other hand, as the 10th anniversary title I always figured Abyss was rushed out to meet that date (and that's why it was pretty poor in some technical aspects compared to how the games usually are, well from that, and I think it was on an engine ported and changed up a little from Symphonia GCN/PS2?).

2010 is the 15th anniversary of the series, but I they seem to have more teams to make Tales games compared to 2005 (assuming some of these teams weren't temporary), and they don't seem to be against outsourcing, so I don't know if they have any reason to rush the team to get another game out so soon this time.

New Garaph trick. Some of you may remember that about half a year ago I was toying with a DS-friendly version of Garaph. However, since I couldn't get the subdomain stuff going as I wanted, I just left it at the stage of experiment. Well, today I got the subdomain stuff working as I wished. Using the subdomain will lead you to the same pages as not using the subdomain, but since you are using the sub-domain it makes formatting differences thanks to if-then statements. In this way the next time I want to make a change, I only have one file to deal with and the differences will show up no matter what subdomain you're viewing from.

So not all of the many pages are modified, but the biggest interconnecting set are so there's plenty of browsing potential: the main page, the individual software pages, the weekly overviews, and the software group pages.

garaph.info
ds.garaph.info
psp.garaph.info

As usual, tell me if I've flubbed something up.

28% of the total sales this year in japan.
7% os it's lifetime total sales in japan.

There are a couple of historical points to this. New Tales games by the main developer (i.e. Wolfteam/Tales Studio) are usually released in November/December every 2 years per team for a ground up game. Tales Studio was initially formed in 2003 to expand to two teams with one ground up game every year. The veteran staff behind "Team Destiny" kept a perfect sequence of one game in November/December every two years since ToP PS1 in 1998 (which as a extended port/remake of the SFC version based on the ToD PS1 engine took only one year). Last year with ToH previous assistants from "Team Destiny" took the lead which I hope will continue the lineage of 2D Tales games. "Team Symphonia" which was build around staff from Cybernetic Empire (PS1, 1999) takes about 2,5 years per game so far, so their next game should arrive around December 2010 indeed. It will be interesting to see what development time the 3D "Team Destiny" will take in the future and if the lead staff from ToS-R reappears.
