God, I hope so.

Anywho, yes, Nintendo has been on a downward trend for a while now. And history has shown that NCL cares more for the bottom line than market or mindshare. Well, all companies do. ;) But, Iwata & Co. seem to put the spark back into the machine for masses to enjoy. I have a suspicion they might still have a trick or two up their sleeve.

I was wondering if the PS3 drop in the Media Create numbers would be smaller than the drop in the Famitsu numbers because of the rather large difference (about 11k or so) between MC and Famitsu regarding the PS3 hardware numbers last week. It seems that this was the case since the PS3 Media Create numbers only drop with 2,422 this week compared to last week while the Famitsu numbers dropped with 13,000.

I would at least guess one of the reasons for why the MC drop regarding the PS3 numbers are lower than the Famitsu drop this week is because of the rather large large difference in the last week's numbers.

I think that those numbers are 2 weeks old.

EDIT: I added some text.

Based on the latest Famitsu hardware numbers...
PSP comparisons: After 251 weeks, PSP is where PS2 was at 197.1 weeks (December 7, 2003), where DS was at 104.7 weeks (December 1, 2006), and where GBA was at 170.1 weeks (June 21, 2004).

X360 comparisons: After 199 weeks, X360 is where GCN was at 19.9 weeks (January 26, 2002), where PS3 was at 41.6 weeks (August 23, 2007), and where Wii was at 6.0 weeks (January 6, 2007).

PS3 comparisons: After 151 weeks, PS3 is where PS2 was at 55.1 weeks (March 19, 2001), where PSP was at 82.1 weeks (July 3, 2006), where GCN was at 172.1 weeks (December 27, 2004), and where Wii was at 44.8 weeks (October 5, 2007).

Wii comparisons: After 148 weeks, Wii is where GBA was at 103.1 weeks (March 10, 2003), where DS was at 79.2 weeks (June 5, 2006), where PS2 was at 124.1 weeks (July 15, 2002), and where PSP was at 172.8 weeks (March 29, 2008).

DSi comparisons: After 48 weeks, DSi is where GBASP was at 67.1 weeks (May 24, 2004) and where DSL was at 23.3 weeks (August 8, 2006).

Based on last week's Media Create hardware numbers...
DS vs PSP: Weekly shares of 55.5 / 44.5 bring total shares to 68.5 / 31.5. If DS stopped selling and PSP continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 294.0 weeks (May 25, 2015).

X360 vs PS3: Weekly shares of 10.2 / 89.8 bring total shares to 24.0 / 76.0. If PS3 stopped selling and X360 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 582.8 weeks (December 5, 2020).

PS3 vs Wii: Weekly shares of 51.5 / 48.5 bring total shares to 29.7 / 70.3. At this week's rates, PS3 would catch up to Wii in 2,296.2 weeks (October 7, 2053). If Wii stopped selling and PS3 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 131.3 weeks (April 10, 2012).

Week over week, PSP and Wii have price cut bumps, DS drops quite a bit, and the rest drop modestly.

First one to hit a million on any system?

There have been games in which the Best Price re-release was vital to the overall game reaching a million, but no, no Best Price standalone SKU has ever made it to 1 Million until MHP2ndG.

I think Nintendo's past hits have the potential to make it to 1 Million if they were re-released at a budget. I can see NSMB and MKDS regaining their legs if Nintendo released ¥2980 versions of them or something. But clearly the company's more interested in maintaining higher software prices over time, even in the U.S.

Do people think there's anything particularly successful about the name New Super Mario Bros.? It's a very old name with the word "new" tacked on front. That's not particularly special. That's not any guarantor of sales. That's not going to prompt people to go buy the game anymore than the word "Mario" by itself would. New Super Mario Bros. succeeded to the insane level that it has for reasons going deeper than its name -- reasons that will make or break the Wii game's own success.
Eh, yea? "Hey look, its the spiritual sequel to the game I (and millions of others) bought and keep buying." It is nothing unusual since I hear it everytime (not literally how the reaction goes of course) someone notices the boxart on Gamestop's shelves.

It's a brilliant marketing ploy.

If I remember correctly, Heian-kyo was calling Animal Crossing DS a bomb because it only sold ~400k in the first week. :lol

Wow, nice SMT numbers. DS is a RPG beast!

Blue Dragon is a shame, though not surprising. The game looks genuinely fun and of very high quality. The tainted 'Xbox' stigma haunts this series still.... That and no advertising. This was sent to die :(
Maybe they thought thought looking like DQIX was enough. I'm gonna guess 12k first week.

Not too bad for Eldar Saga considering the shipment, maybe due to the low shipment it was really hard to find? I've read a lot of people in NA post that they have trouble finding XSEED's games, so the saying's true, "You can't buy what you can't find".

What was LKS' 1st day total and sellthrough again?

Great news for SMT fans. Bad news for Sakaguchi. I was hoping BD did some decent numbers but I think the game just turned out to be bad.

Are you seriously equating sales with game quality without playing it just to attempt to justify it?

:p

[NDS] Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey (Atlus) - 71,000 (63%)
Niiiice. Excellent first day and good sell through, hopefully it has a second in the weekend because I think its locked for a >100k first week and the first shipment is 113k.
Sinobi first day comparisons for Atlus on DS:
2007 Month 01: DS "Etrian Odyssey" - 22k
2008 Month 02: DS "Etrian Odyssey Ⅱ" - 52k
2009 Month 01: DS "Devil Survivor" - 35k
2009 Month 10: DS "Shin Megami Tensei: STRANGE JOURNEY" - 71k
Btw, Persona PSP did 65k but it was a 2-day number.

[NDS] Blue Dragon: Ikai no Kyojuu (Bandai Namco Games) - 7,500 (22%)
Where did I put my Tri-Crescendo should start looking for a new publisher? Oh well just a little fix:
123a91d.png

[PS3] White Knight Chronicles: EX Edition (SCE) - 3,400 (25%)
Not-so-budget re-release updating the game. Kinda like GT5 Prologue Spec III.
Should behave like a normal budget re-release anyway, its 3800Y. Surprised at the low shipment though, for a rather low risk release like this.

[WII] Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga (Marvelous Entertainment) - 3,300 (29%)
No first day data for VK1 or VK2. VK2 Battle Stance (expansion, budget re-release hybrid) did 5,800. First week, VK did 14k, VK2 did 35k and VK2BS did 14k.

[NDS] Tago Akira no Atama no Taisou Dai-3-Shuu (Level 5) - 560 (6%)
Its funny that when 1 & 2 released, we didn't get first day sales for #2, and now that 3 & 4 are released, we miss #4. Anyway, really bad because #1 did 5,300 its first day and for the first week #1 did 10k and #2 did 4,700. 560 is poor and with #4 data missing I don't even want to think how it did.
