Even if I agree with some of these, the amount of bias that permeates through this post makes me unable to take you seriously, lol.

I don´t know where yo see the bias, Nintendos launch offerings are awful and i just call them out for that.

Right, so nothing that has any real impact on "creating an environment in which third parties can sell their games". Let me know when you've dug deeper and come up with something relevant.

Yeah the hardware, the online and the games have definitely no real impact on the attractiveness of a system.

LMAOOOOO.

Of course they do. But what ways specifically do they each effect "creating an environment in which third parties can sell their games" and how does this prove Nintenfo didn't even try to those ends?

I mean the online experience. There's online play, there's a digital store (games, dlc), there's multiple options for video content, there's a friends list (without codes!), there's Miiverse. It's funny, while the rushed retail ports have been bombing for the most part the general conscenus for studios doing digital games has been pretty encouraging so far, in some cases a developer like Frozenbyte even putting it above how things have gone for them (both logistically and commercially) on PSN or XBLA. Nintendo's reportedly offering devs unlimited free patches, promotional support, open and adjustable pricing and even a reduced introductory royalty rate (15%). That's not even trying?

Ok let me go into detail:

1. Online: No achievements, Account bound to console (lol). Just to name the 2 worst offenders.

2. Software: NSMBU, which looks like it could´ve been made on a level generator. Resolution aside you need a microscope to tell any differences to the Wii version.

Nintendoland, minigamecrap.

ZombiU, mediocre low budget zombie flick with extremely repetitive gameplay and graphics that wouldn´t even impress anybody if you traveled back in time to 2008.

Add ports that look worse than on 7 year old hardware.

3. Hardware: 2008 low end gpu garnished with the most ridiculous bottlenecks in the history of console gaming. Wouldn´t have imagined this in my worst nightmares.

How does any of these affect third party sell their games? Do people actually look a console and say "damn there is no achievement so I'm not buying this"? This is radiculous.

EDIT: Especially we are in MC thread. What you listed couldn't be more wrong for the market.

Miiverse in particular seems like it's a potentially big boon for third party developers. Every game gets a message board dedicated to it. If you're curious about a game, you can go in and post something like "Hey, I like Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed. Would Funky Barn be the kind of game I'd like?"*, and you get a really quick response and can tell whether or not the responders have actually played the game. I've been seeing a lot of examples of people coming back and saying stuff along the lines of "Hey, I tried this because you guys said it was cool, and it actually is!".

I'm sure that Xbox Live and PSN/Home have equivalent functionality, but I think this is a particularly big step for Nintendo, and it is incredibly third party friendly (unless your game is balls).

* the answer is "No, but maybe you should look at Trine 2"

Oh I definitely wasn't stating Nintendo is giving up on 3rd party support, but how insane it would be to do so. And the mentality that "everyone knows people only buy Nintendo hardware for Nintendo games" would essentially be them giving up if they actually believed that. Regardless there are 3 things that could have went down here

A) Nintendo went to 3rd parties looking for support for Wii U and they straight up said no because they are busy with PS4/720
B) Nintendo went to 3rd parties too late and we will see improved support at a later time
C) They straight up didn't care did nothing.

But isn´t this pretty obvious?
What do gamers want?

An online system that is at least as good as the competitors. Loads of people, easy handling, all the stuff (achievements etc.) the others offer.

High quality games that nobody else has? Where was the high effort/high quality launch blockbuster? Why should i ever bother buying this platform when it offers absolutely nothing that i can´t get better on PS3/360? No Zelda, no 3D Mario, no Waverace, no Metroid, no F-Zero, no new IP. Just a lazy ass 2D platformer and a minigame collection which are about as exciting as a bingo tournament.

Decent hardware. I wasn´t expecting Nintendo to go head to head with the PS4/720, but this is unacceptable.

Minor stuff that doesn´t affect the core problems.

Why are you talking about what 'gamers' want in what's pretty much a sales age thread? We've seen again and again how demands of the 'core' do not align with the majority of buyers.

And BTW, WiiU did come a killer app from launch: nintendoland. There's no saving the piss-poor E3 presentation, but the only people that call it a bunch of crappy minigames is those that never played it -- because it's by far the best local multiplayer title for 'everyone' in a long, long time. It does require you to either take the 'hardcore gamer' or 'trollface' glasses off to appreciate. I mean, come on, no dismembered limbs when you catch mario in Chase?!

I don't disagree it might be, but don't we need a lot more data before calling Nintendoland a "killer app" It's pretty obvious it's not in other parts of the world anyway.

(Core)gamers don´t buy the WiiU, third party titles don´t sell. Enough "sales" for now?

25./27. [WIU] Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate # <ACT> (Capcom) {2012.12.08} (¥4.800) - 14.656 / 181.564 (+1%)

I'm just confused as to why this rant is going on in a japanese sales thread. Nintendo's problem in Japan has never been getting core gamers to buy the system. Nintendo's console woes have come from plain old lack of support which in the Wii's case definitely did stem from game selling terribly.

It pretty much does. Yes there's some differences, but the general functionality is around the same level. Pretty much anything a 3rd party wants to leverage with 360 or PS3 they can with Wii U's online.

You can characterize NSMBU however you like, but it's the core title more than any other that seems to sell well and get a positive response. I'd agree 1st party lineup feels light and would really be helped by another game like F-Zero, Pilotwings, Wave Race or Excite ____ to round things out, but I fail to see how this sells 3rd party games?

When Nintendo stacks their launches, they're taking all the air away from 3rd parties. But when they leave it open, they're failing to create an environment where 3rdparty games sell? Nintendo's pretty much damned if they do, damned if they don't.

GBA, DS, Wii, 3DS. I'm not sure what you were expecting, and I'm even less sure why this is (again) relevant?

No, that would be achievements. Things like free patches and price control are the things developers rightfully give a shit about. Because it actually impacts their bottom line.

I don´t know why the concept that you need to offers something that others don´t to get he cores on board is so hard to grasp. Nobody is going to buy a WiiU to play ports that he can get better and cheaper elsewhere. You need a core audience on your platform to sell them the third party games. I explained multiple times now how you get such an audience.

All I've seen here is you nitpicking about specific features that probably won't make-or-break a console purchase. And if you want different, is it not enough that Nintendo just added a 800x480 touch panel with response times that meets or exceeds most HDTVs out there, that can lead to whateverthefuck addition to a game if devs invest the time in it?

Twilight Princess did amazing at Wii launch, look at all that did for core support. And all those Zelda clones that came to the platform as a result (Okami, Okami 2, Okami 3).

Yes, building audiences early on is key, but traditionally when Nintendo themselves have tried to do that with core games, it largely gets ignored by 3rd parties. Year one Nintendo brought Zelda, Metroid, 3D Mario, Excite, Paper Mario, Fire Emblem to Wii, and they all sold well. Didn't really seem to matter one bit though in terms of how 3rd parties characterized the platform. The mantra persisted anyway that core games don't sell.

Microsoft and Sony don't single handedly build their own core audiences (if they'd have had to, 360 & PS3 would've died off years ago), so why should it be reasonably expected of Nintendo?

Since it has zero atractiveness for core gamer that only leaves "I get nintendo consoles to play Nintendo games" crowd as buyers which can already be seen in what software charts.

C) They straight up didn't care did nothing.

D) Since they got burnt on Wii, 3rd parties want the new platform to prove itself and see how some of the big guns (or former big guns as in the case of Tekken) do before green lighting projects for the Wii U. Many early titles outright bombed, MH3U is doing okayish.

MH3 Ultimate connectivity/cross play also indicates a strong possibility for a MH4U. MH3 sold around a million, the next online MH should at least be able to match this if the platform can support those sales. The strategy here is clearly to have a few really big titles from Nintendo themselves and select 3rd parties to build an audience for other 3rd party games.

If sales go too low we'll see a price cut before MH4U (or any other promising 3rd party big title, if one is announced), that's almost certain.

Since we're on the topic of Nintendo's lack of 3rd party support: I just learned that Walking Dead Survival Instinct is coming to Wii U. 1 good 3rd party game doesn't make much difference, but it might be a sign of things to come for Nintendo.

It won't be a good game. So yeah.

And ha, somebody doesn't know about the edit button.

Dude. Bingo Tournaments are hella fun.

Just wait til the Vita's 2nd/3rd Christmas!

I wonder if, at the same point in the ds' life there was any one piece of software that outsold all psp software combined.

No, far from that. The second holiday (2005), PSP software sales were already at over 4 million.

Finally managed to get my copy of the last Taiko on Wii.

Honestly, i don't know why this one is selling more than the last ones, since there isn't much of a change from Taiko 4. The only real change is the song selection, and even that is stretching some, since i remember seeing a lot of those songs in earlier Taikos.

It's Taiko, so it's always awesome to me, i just don't know why this got more sales than the others. It's really derivative from Taiko ketteiban. The only new addition is a 4 player game that i've only played a couple of minutes.
