If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
KH 3D and Love + are games that really need a re-release on 3DS in + 6-12 months.

Reminds me of Itadaki Street Wii. I figured that game was good for an easy 300k, but it struggled to even reach half that.

Actually, after Slime Morimiri 3 and now KH3D, I sort of wonder if DQM will do bit less than we're expecting? I was thinking around 1m, but now I'm sort of reconsidering...

DQM:J-633,084 (Opening week) DS LTD-??? (December Release)
DQM:J2-623,643 (Opening week) DS LTD- 30,109,544 (April Release)

Hmm I don't think expecting a million for DQM remake was reasonable in the first place. I mean, the DQ remakes are in the 1m range along with new brand new DQM games.

DQM games sell 1.5m+

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 -1,283,423
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 -532,656

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker -1,458,149
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker (Ultimate Hits) -84,323

Kingdom Hearts isn't in the same league.

How has KH3D marketing been? I'll be honest: Before that 3D hologram presentation they did for it about a month back, it was not on my radar: I was under the impression it was going to be another really half-assed effort like the DS games.

Now, I don't live in Japan, but if the perception there was anything remotely similar to mine, it would more than explain the sales.

Yeah, I'm pretty much guessing this is a large part of it. People felt burned by 358/2 Days and Re:Coded, and since KH3D is on the 3DS, the successor to the DS, people simply felt 3D would be another game in the same vein as those two and didn't want to take a chance on it. Them creating that one stupid anniversary bundle that lumps KH3D, 358/2 Days and Re:Coded together probably didn't help this perception much either, so it's understandable that people would be skittish about it, especially since your post isn't the first I've read about people feeling that way.

For those calling doom and gloom on the PSVita, Let's put this in perspective guys. 3DS also had a week where it dipped below 10,000 and look how it's doing now

They way it's worded screams sarcasm, but there are a ton of Sony fanboys who actually believe this.

I'm pulling for Sony to have a big E3 for Vita.

Kingdom Hearts is such a mismanaged franchise. It's been 6 years since KH2 and after that pretty much all the spin-offs have been released on different platforms. Seems like an effective way to kill the series.

Seems like the PSP is getting more releases than the Vita in Japan and they are cutting into their own product lines....that should change soon right? Right.............right?

I guess SE thought they could get away with releasing only spin-offs with no main entries and make everyone believe those were the real deal, when they really are subpar, specially (or mainly) in nintendo handhelds.

Sad, I liked days on DS.

And wow Kinect Star Wars sold 2k x360 consoles :D

Frightening if that is a global trend...

other musings:
Kingdom Hearts seems to sell better on the Playstation then on Nintendo.

Vita is now really doomed. Not because of the bad sales but because Sony is now in survival mode and management will not spent much time on their game division as long as their are other departments burning more money. And they will not invest additional money on top of already approved fundings there (in fact they even might reduce funding to get cash flow under control). If they get desperate enough they might actually sell the Playstation brand as long as it is still worth something to extend the survival of the Sony company.

leaking from NINTENDO KOREA.

.

I don't think there's an enough evidence to come to this consensus. It's more like it sells better when there hasn't been 5 spinoffs (KH:BBS, KH: Coded, KH: RE:Coded, KH 352/2 days, and KH: DDD) since the last numbered title. I also think the Dream Eaters may have hurt the title a lot along with no FF cameos.

Others (like Game Gear) had lit screens first, but they came with crippling battery dependencies.

Why won't Sony do something? Anything?

Sony has forecasted an annual loss of $6.4bn, double its previous estimate and a record loss for the firm.

The grim forecast comes as Sony's new chief executive, Kazuo Hirai, prepares a turnaround plan, which he is expected to outline on Thursday.

Reports say the company is planning 10,000 job cuts as Sony exits businesses that are not profitable or central to the firm's strategy.

The company blamed the record loss on tax charges related to its US business.

It will be the company's fourth year of losses.

Outside of like the original Xbox, has there been a major game system released in Japan that was out for 5 months and didn't have a single major game for the Japanese market released or announced? Vita's support has been worse than I would have ever expected.

So the keynote is tomorrow. I'm really curious to see which business will be shut down.

There's still potential for profitability in their Consumer Products & Services division, but it truly would be an amazing megaton if Sony announced a sell off of their gaming lines. Kaz certainly won't let that happen, but in the alternate universe where the (currently the case) $1.6 billion loss in CP&S for calendar year 2011 forced them to sell to Nintendo/Microsoft/Apple/Gabe, GAF would have to seriously retool how it works to keep running. :O

Yea, I mixed up earlier, I was thinking GBAs peers (WSC, NGPC), but overlooked the overengineered handhelds of the early 90s. Doesn't really change my point though, Nintendo has more technology handheld firsts than basically all their competitors combined.

If we're counting add-ons you can add dual analog to the list too. :)
