Mario + Rabbids and MHXX coming out in the same month does work.

MHXX is still a HD port of a 3DS game, so its wider appeal is somewhat limited in the West.

And in Japan, Mario and Rabbids will have smaller influence vs Mon Hun there. A win win situation if u ask me. •~•

So:

June: ARMS
July: Splatoon
August: Monster Hunter, Rabbids?
September: Fire Emblem Warriors? Skyrim?
October: Mario Odyssey?
November: Pokemon Stars? Smash?
December: Xenoblade, Dragon Quest?

I feel like one of Smash or Pokemon will be moved to next year(assuming they exist). The late 2017 lineup is already stacked enough as it is.

Now that they've announced the remaining Amiibo's release dates (in June), there's really nothing pointing to a Smash port at all right? Honestly that one will take more time, and given how Smash likes having a hype cycle, if they want to introduce any new characters (let's say Ice Climbers), they'd need time to do that.

The way i see Poke Stars there. Is it even needed this year anymore? There seems to be enough wave to ride especially if Mario Odyssey is on October there.

They should save some of their big gun for next year especially suring February down moment.

If they really need a Pokemon on November, a port of Pokken Tournament should be good enough.

Pokemon would be for the West (and for selling 2DS XLs). Monster Hunter & DQ don't mean all that much outside of Japan.

Wasn't announced in a September Direct?

Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, Miitopia, Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World and Momotaro Dentetsu 2017: Tachiagare Nippon!! were announced in September 1.

Monster Hunter comes out on Friday, the day Switch goes for worldwide release.

Ahhh i see. Pokemon is use to push sales on the west. GF would feel a bit sad though as the sales number on Switch in Japan wont hit its max potential there.

I saw on this page that ARMS moved up from 30th to 15th in the hourly ranking within the last two hours.

https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/bestsellers/videogames?ref=sx_rv_mw_ranking_type_top-sellers

And so it begin lol. And the Testpunch havent even begin lol.

Snipperclips is at 116k with last months estimates.

Minecraft on PS4 will surpass 500k by the time we get first estimates for the Switch version, the Wii U version surpassed 500k last week, all console versions of the game are at about 1.5m, Minecraft will surpass the 3 million mark by the end of the year.

Also the person leaking is a secondhand source.

The XX switch port doesn't seem to actually be mentioned.
Well, this is the full trail from 'the same person', if you're interested.

I'm personally hoping for MH5 PS4 to be a character action game set during the Paul WS Anderson film developed by Ninja Theory.

Japan will buy whatever version of the game they feel like.

Thought this might be interesting here. From the new interview that came out today in the booklet handed out at the live event:

Dragon Quest XI began development just a little over 2 years ago in 2015. Development was originally just the PS4 version, but because they wanted the series to get in as many hands as possible they began developing a 3DS version. They didn't want people playing the 3DS version to feel that they were playing an inferior version, so one of the staff on the project had the idea of having a 3D and 2D mode and got the ok.

It's believable because Capcom is a mess.

Not that i believe this rumor (would Capcom really say no to all the money they could make on Nintendo platforms just to get some cash upfront from Sony?), but if that's MH5 i don't even want it, despite having two platforms that can run it (PC and PS4 Pro). Also using the "Portable" denomination for the "real" MH from the main MH team would be immensely stupid from a marketing standpoint. Switch is also a hybrid device, both portable and home, so the name doesn't even make sense.
Wanted to add, 'Portable' was called 'Freedom' out here, so they could reuse that name for all intents and purposes.

You're free to play MH on the go or on your TV.

I'm most shocked about the 2015 date. I guess that's when it went into full development.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Thanks for that - so this was PS4 only initially ? Kinda crazy that they thought they could skip 3DS, especially since the 3DS version always looked more ready to be released for the Anniversary.

Then again this also explains how aggressive they were with the new Spin-Offs on PS4/PSV while the 3DS spin-offs always felt like afterthoughts lately.

I love how the 3ds afterthought games usually sell more

It's the other way around if you think about it, PS3/4/V got the vast bulk of the weird spinoffs while 3DS got the big beefy remakes.

The real strange thing is that they made a DQ game without any major delays. This...hasn't happened in quite some time.

Someone need to kiss Horii ass multiple time to put 3DS on production.

I'm really confused as to what is being conveyed in this rumor. I read that Sony pays a lot of money for exclusivity, and a contract that involves no support to the Switch from Capcom; but they support it anyway? Not only that, but it reads, as though there is some contract circumventing going on, that Capcom separates the IP and develops it through two developers: the main team, and a B team.

Here's where it get's more confusing. The B-team is the one developing MH5, supposedly for PS4/PC, which is going to be anything but like a main series MH game. Meanwhile, the main MH team with focus on "MHportable," which I can only assume will be developed for Nintendo (Switch). To add confusion to the fire, they are doing this because they are scared all because of the SFV deal? Why do it in the first place? Also, once a contract is signed, that annotates: you cannot use this IP on said system because I paid you, how are they getting away with it?

Something is not adding up, or this rumored contract is not as restrictive as it is lead to be.

It's not that complicated. Sony paid for Monster Hunter 5 exclusivity. Capcom wants to chase western success with the PS4 install base and changes up the gameplay accordingly.

Capcom starts to get cold feet, and decides to hedge by supporting Switch as well. Except they can't call it Monster Hunter 5 because that's exclusive to PS4. So they bring back the Portable line, call it Monster Hunter Portable 5, and iterate on the traditional gameplay.

What were they thinking with PS4 only? That would have been a disaster for DQ. Crazy that they thought that was ever a good option.

Also dropped by Bic Camera after the DQ adventure today. Switch sold out, joycons sold out (Neon/Grey) Splatoon 2/reg pro controller sold out, Switch wheel controller thing, Zelda BoTW amiibo all sold out, Disgaea 5 sold out, and for the first time ever Spelunker Z sold out too.

No. It seems like someone actually had some business sense over at Squenix and saved DQXI from flopping at retail.

cool meme bro.

The reason the rumor seems so weird is because both parties lose in this scenario.

- Sony's goal is to maintain some relevance in Japan. Westernizing MH does not obtain this objective. They don't need MH in the west.

- By westernizing MH + having 5 skip a portable platform, Capcom might gain some traction with the IP outside Japan, but they definitely lose sales in their home country. Not to mention the massively increased budget, which will really hurt them if numbers are down.

Sony paying for a traditional MH title would actually make some sense, but this doesn't. But it's Capcom, so this nonsense is actually plausible.

Bic Camera selling off all their Switch accessories because it's a 32X level failure confirmed.

Doesn't it sound nonsensical though?

The point of getting exclusivity is to benefit your platform against the competition.

What's the point of Sony getting MH5 exclusively (according to this rumour) if Nintendo is still going to get games from the same franchise which will benefit Nintendo as well?

So basically, Capcom didn't even need an exclusivity deal with Sony in the first place if this is how things went.

If they're thinking DQXI a 2017 release, it makes sense to just focus on PS4. But it turned out PS4 didn't grow that much and 3DS didn't die that easily. So we got this weird 3 version thing.

So Square Enix really were drinking the kool aid at one point.

Pretty much. They've always tried really hard to push the PS4 in Japan, but making DQXI exclusive to that platform would've been catastrophic. I think the way they've decided to release it (3DS+PS4 at launch, Switch later) is fairly ideal, and should keep in line with sales of previous installments.

But it's Capcom, so this nonsense is actually plausible.
The way I see this going down is that Capcom were confident in SFV's success and Sony were confident that the PS4 was going to get out of its rut in Japan. As if other big games like DQXI and FFXV were going to help out and everything was going to work in the end.

But then SFV tanked, FFXV did nothing for the PS4 and MHX became the 2nd selling MH game globally.

It doesn't really make all that much sense, but I think people want to believe it because MH for Sony fans is basically what FF used to be for Nintendo fans when FFVII jumped ship to Playstation.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Considering SE whole corporate strategy was about pushing the PS4 as much as possible....and KH3/FFXV were announced very early it doesnt surprise that the system was/is their focus for all of their big IPs. Even DQ wasnt the exception for this one....and Horii wanted the big great looking TV experience - so PS4 was the only viable option at that time.

Maybe it will be in the E3 Spotlight and treated as Nintendo's big August game?

This is likely - they need more as much online multiplayer games as possible to justify the online fee later this year. Looking at western Switch sales Capcom would be foolish to not release the western version asap.

This also helps Nintendo in keeping the 3DS alive if we get 3DS/Switch release in August. Followed up by Pokemon Stars 3DS/Switch.

obviously not gonna happen, since almost everyone in this thread expects it to happen

The thing is, if the rumor is accurate, Switch is getting the "true" Monster Hunter sequel by the main team regardless of what they call it.

So there's really nothing in there for anyone to be upset about.

The whole Capcom/Sony MH deal seems so bizarre. Quite frankly, it benefits no one. I don't think it would grow the franchise in the west very much, and folks in Japan would likely just stick with the revived Portable series. So why even bother? It just doesn't seem necessary in any way, especially if Sony's goal is just to keep the popular installments off of Nintendo systems (which, based on the rumor, would be their goal in securing MH5 - which is silly).

But, like others have said, it's hard to entirely write this off because it's just stupid enough to be possible from Capcom.

That is how I read it. The rumor screams exclusivity to Sony, while offering nothing to Nintendo. However, both Nintendo and Sony get MH games through Sony and Capcom's Monster Hunter exclusivity contract.
