Thanks. Wii U situation is terrible.

Once again, to reach Gamecube lifetime, Kart, 3D World, and Smash will have to sell around 5 million pieces of hardware EACH off of their own backs because third parties won't be showing up and theyre undoubtedly the only big console games Nintendo produce that pulls crowds. Do you think thats feasible? I don't.

Yes, if those are the only games Nintendo will release in the lifetime of the system, it is indeed totally dead. If Nintendo does in fact decide to never release anything else, yes, there is no debate, it is completely dead.

All it takes is one big hit or right combination of little hits to turn fortunes around. For PSP it was Monster Hunter, for 3DS it was the combination of a price cut and 3 good titles (2 first party one 3rd party exclusive). Pokemon turned the Gameboy from an adequately selling, dated piece of hardware into a worldwide phenomenon.

Not saying the WiiU will get a hit like this... Lots of consoles have not turned their fortunes around at all despite trying. the DC is was supposed to be saved by Shenmue. The Xbox 360 by Idolmaster and exclusive RPGs. Virtual Boy was dead on arrival.

The thing is, this early in the gen it's still premature to call it. Yes signs point to failure for the WiiU. It will probably be lucky to outsell the GameCube in it's lifetime. But Nintendo has deep pockets and unlike SEGA they can afford to continue to give it support. And when the price is right the gamer who wants to play some Mario or Zelda will pick it up. Like they did the N64 and Gamecube. GameCube had far, far, far better 3rd party support than the N64, but it sold less.

I think it is very feasible that it could reach GameCube numbers. I also think it is feasible that it won't.

But this obsessive need to declare new hardware dead, (saw it with the PS3, 3DS, Vita, etc.) is getting really annoying.

I like sales age for the turnarounds and the competition. When PSP was on the rise and started overtaking the DS some weeks, that was really exciting. Why are we in such a rush to "call" this gen?

MH at over 200k, nice to see. :)

I hope Nintendo isn't desperate enough to think the Wii _ series will sell more than a few hundred thousand and even thats optimistic.. I can definitely see Wiiu outselling the gamecube in japan as its not a hard feat whatsoever, but as of now i put the same limit i did for vita. There is no way i see either selling more than 6 million.

Are you talking Japan only? Because "a few hundred thousand" would be a fantastic release, no?

To go from 2-3 million to 2-300k is not really fantastic, but yes i dont see the series completely evaporating. Am im talking ltd over the course of wiiu's life because i see them opening well under 100k. These kind of releases will do nothing for wiiu.

"Dead" is somewhat hyperbolic. Consigned to third place and/or irrelevance, may not be.

The whole notion of "just one game and everything can change" is a pointless notion. Does one concede that something unexpected could out of the blue radically change the landscape? Sure. Does one expect the landscape to be regularly carpet bombed beyond recognition? No.

Neither the 3DS nor the PS3 were ever in such dire predicament globally. And a lot of the actions (and consequent outcomes) available for either system, simply aren't applicable.

The Vita is for all intents and purposes dead really, outside of Japan. Mercury going into retrograde, La Nina and global warming aren't going to change that. Nor will they bring about the level of turnaround some people still seem to expect from the Wii U, while they remain willfully unaware of just how bad these sales are.

Just wondering but what did the last Brain Age game do?

Because yeah I expect the same kind of dropoff for these games.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

The one significant difference between the Vita and Wii U is we know Nintendo will at least try and save the platform with software. Vita has been, and will continue to be almost 100% dependent on third parties.

That isn't to necessarily disagree with your point- just to say that finding that one game or couple of games that gets the platform on the right track is more likely to come from Nintendo for Wii U than from a 3rd party on Vita.

And Dreamcast total sales? It's around 2 million?

1,898,164 as of 2002-02-11, when Famitsu dropped the console from its public tracker.

I imagine the console maintained paltry sales throughout 2002 as Sega completely offloaded remaining inventory after its ¥‎9,900 March 1st, 2001 price cut.

Sega has announced a new Vita game for 2014.

I'd go into detail, but this should sufficiently summarize the product:

I've been playing games for 25+ years and I've no idea what I'm looking at.
Here's the actual details: http://gematsu.com/2013/07/sega-announces-song-builder-575-for-ps-vita

It's a rhythm game... sort of. I guess more of a singing simulator?

Gematsu said:
In the game, set in Kamakura, Japan, lyrics flow on the screen while the main characters dance and sing. As the lyrics go by, there are blanks for players to fill in by choosing the words that seem to fit. Because it uses Vocaloid, the game sings it in real-time no matter the word you pick. Players can enjoy the game however they like, find the best combinations, or just use words they like to make the song original.

Has this been posted? Samurai Warriors 2 with Xtreme Legends & Empires HD Ver. is coming out for PS3 and Vita on October 24 in Japan. It's a HD port of 3 games; Samurai Warriors 2, Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends, and Samurai Warriors 2 Empires. The Vita version is download only though.

Blaming low Wii U sales on the weather. Now I've seen everything.

Cold and cloudy = great sales, hot and sunny = low sales. Everyone who's worked in retail knows this. Especially true during the summer months. People don't go shopping when they can enjoy the sun, go to the beach, etc. instead.

This explains the explosive growth in Wii U sales from January to March.

What kind of turnaround do you think is possible at all at this point? I wouldn't blame you if you believe that it's a lost cause indefinitely but I also don't think it's too irrational to think they might be able to improve their fortunes significantly.

I really dislike it when people refer to a irrational nondescript entity as if they make up a sizable vocal group. You say "some people" but I don't think I've seen anyone imply that it's likely that nintendo will work their way out of 3rd place for months now. The vast majority seems well aware that the Wii U is selling like shit. No one is really refuting that (though a very small minority does like to blame random factors such as the weather). If you wanna say Wii U is dead, that's fine, but trying to call out "some people" for saying it's not a foregone conclusion seems pretty silly to me.
