For still lacking games and selling on announcements, 3DS is doing great in Japan now. I did not expect Xillia do drop so fast though. 91% is a lot.

Zelda OoT is going to become an evergreen title, just like New SMB or Mario Kart DS

Since it is the only 3DS game so far, whose 3D effect really add something to the experience, cannot say I'm not pleased.

3DS is having an impressive recovery after the price drop.
Will be interesting to see how it performs in the holiday season.

Explosion for sure, since so many big games are coming out. The point is if it will end up selling in a single week more than the record of DS (roughly 600k and of every single non-launch period console ever)

DS at the same point in time had a much worse library and not so good future. The lineup was even worse if you take it from the japanese launch and not the euro lauch 4 months later.

The real question is if it will obtain to go beyond every limit of humanity...and selling 1 million the last week of the year...

Bullshit. The DS had some great games out by now. Meteos, Kirby Canvas Curse, Advance Wars Duel Strike, Super Mario 64 DS, Wario Ware Touched, and of course Nintendogs were all out by this point (though I guess not if you do launch aligned). Oh and I think Pokemon Dash and Yoshi's Touch and Go did pretty decent for early in the cycle even if their quality was a bit dubious.

So not only is the 3DS not dropping, it's also rising?
What the heck?
I think the way Nintendo managed to turn things around within a month is absolutely commendable, kudos. It just goes on to reinforce why Nintendo is the king of the handheld market after all.

Sorry mate, but you're quite wrong here. If we align the 3DS and DS launches up properly (which you have failed to do so here), Kirby Canvas Curse wouldn't be coming out for another month from now.

US/JPN DS Release: November
3DS Release: February (JPN), March (US)

Kirby Canvas Curse came out a whole 7 months (US) after the DS launched. The 3DS has been out for 6 months (US) now.

Too bad, you're wrong.

And of the games he mentioned, Kirby was the only one that justified the hardware, it was an awesome game that could only be done on the DS.

AW while awesome, was about the same experience than the GBA versions (I think DS is better, but still, not a system seller).

Meteos was very hyped at the time, but it was rather bad, and the same company did the much superior Lumines on the PSP released before; this felt like a poor's man Lumines...

Mario 64 was good but it was a launch game with control issues (I earned all 150 stars and I liked it btw).

Wario Ware wasn't really that good, definitely worse than the two previous WW games.

Pokemon Dash was garbage, and Yoshi T&G was not a game for everyone (it didn't have stages, it was an arcade game like balloon fight...)

Nintendogs was a true system seller, but it took a while to take off.

Yea, I noted that. When two systems don't launch at the same time of year, it kind of throws perspective out of whack I guess. I think I would take the 3DS lineup to this point over the DS.

DS"good" games really started in September 2005, with Castlevania, Sonic Rush, ..

This was almost one year after the japanese launch, which is a critical information considering DS was basically feeded by japanese devs. No, 3DS in 3 months will be way ahead in terms of software releases.

They are already running MHTriG commercials in Japan right? Might have contributed to the 3DS bump as well.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't remember really substantial hardware bumps occuring from the promise of certain high profile games. The bumps occured when they actually came out. If this is indeed TriG's doing then that franchise has some deadly system selling power.

I remember the time when Nintendogs was announced; everyone felt it was a game aimed solely to the japanese market, and everyone predicted that it would sell millions there, like Pokemon; and then it turned out that by far the biggest markets for that game were Europe, then NA and last it was Japan, and while it sold a lot in Japan, there were other games that outshined it there (1.8 million in Japan, 20 million in rest of the world).

Funny enough, Nintendo's stock is up slightly today.

Also, that article from yesterday that said MH3G and MH4 weren't hype because there was no applause just looks embarrassing now.

that sounds ridiculous... what article?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Welcome back :)
December release ? Sonic will get stomped by other 3DS releases, which would be sad since it looks good.

Sonic doesn't do shit in Japan anyway. No need to be coy about its release date.

I still cannot belive the bump is because of Tri G, but what the heck else would it be?

I am perplexed.

Announcements have never brought extra sales in Japanese market.

It's the natural appeal of the console at that price. Having a really promising software ahead helps, and probably leads some people to buy in anticipation.

Since there wasn't any Holiday last week, and since last week MH3G ads started airing... it must be those ads what boosted 3DS.
And, you know, I was one of those saying that even with ads airing, seeing an immediate boost was impossible.
This really shows the absolute power of MH in Japan right now. It's...scary, actually.

That's kind of depressing.

Why is depressing? Go is a confirmed faliure sakes wise, it´s discontinued and dead. I don't find anything remarkable about it anymore.

The week MH3 for Wii announced I have the impression Wii went down.

Impressive that the 3DS is holding up there. Guessing a 10% stock drop though. :p

Is there a release list for Japan somewhere where you can check what's coming in the next month or so? It's doing well so far holding up until the big November nukes come out.

Biggest PS2 Tales dropoff was Destiny 2, which had a second week about 13% of the first. Most of them were more like 20%.

Destiny 2, the last Tales game with similarly high fw, has a similarly high sales drop in second week. So Xillia actually is perfectly in line with the series' sales history.

And we see Destiny 2 even had some legs. =P How much of copies are still available?

so there was a bump in the same week for the DS in 2005 as the 3DS now ??

I believe there was Tamogotchi and Phoenix Wright released this week. I can't remember if there was a pricedrop in Japan or not, but there was one in NA in late August. Jump Superstars was the cause of the bump in mid-August.

Speaking of which, is Jump Superstars still a viable franchise option? That series certainly did well on the DS, I'm surprised I haven't heard of the series since 2006.

Sure. Ganbarion has even released two One Piece: Gigant Battle games, that are very similar to the Jump titles in terms of gameplay.

Who knows for sure. Isn't there a Pink 3DS(supposed to be a way to attract female gamers lol) mid October for Japan?

Will be interesting to see holiday sales and how Nintendo reacted to the slow start. If they have a healthy capacity due to slow sales they could have amazing Holiday sales in Japan and the west. If they pushed the emergency stop button on production lines could be average

Pink 3DS on October is when we will the next big boost in sales. Then it's only 2 weeks before the major titles start coming in. I'm really excited to see what kind of weekly sales will be reached then. It would be amazing to have a record breaking week or two :p
