Media Create Sales: Week 43, 2011 (Oct 24 - Oct 30)

I believe it was a combination of the quality of the original games and the fact that they had exclusivity on the Japanese leagues/teams that made it garner more popularity than FIFA. It's also made by a Japanese company so that probably helps as well.

Japan winning the Asian Title and the Women's World Cup are probably good emotional boosts as well to the brand.
Edit: Not to forget that WE2012 is a much better product compared to the past couple of years' releases.

It'll be interesting to see what iM@S2 does it's second week, particularly given how late in the day they left the Ryuuguu Komachi content reveal.

I'm more interested in knowing the actual sales of the Limited Edition. Going by Comgnet points, it's 45~50% of the combined number... but that's a really rough estimate.

Yeah, because Square-Enix published the MW series in Japan.

I think the SE name alone will help sales.
The publisher doesn't really mean much when it comes to FPS games in Japan.

I don't see Square porting Type-0 to other platforms. I think most consumers in the West would just reject a PSP up-port to PS3.

Vita. And after first-hand impressions, my future Vita to be specific.

Looks like the 3DS sales are going to explode a few weeks before the DS did. We're going to see some amazing numbers between now and the end of the year.

I wonder if it can get somewhat close to what the best selling consoles has sold in the period between November and the end of the year.

Probably under 400k.
Given that the 3DS install base is at 2.2 million in Japan - I would think a max of 500k but more likely 300k is realistic.

Crazy if it did more though - if it got 600-800k it would be an awesome attach rate.

Damn I expected more for Type-0, like a lot more :/
How could you? For weeks people have explained why this would be around what it would hit.

There has even been feelings that it wouldn't hit 1 Million given how rare that is on PSP.

This is pretty much in line with every reasonable guess for the game.

This must be a record looking how close he was.
It is indeed, although very close with 2010 5/24-5/30 week:
Code:
[U]2010 5/24-5/30[/U]
Results	By Units By Points
1	11865	MemoirsofMimi 9,35%	Orgen
[U]2011 10/24-10/30[/U]
Results	By Units By Points
1 8916	saichi 5,37%	saichi
Pretty eerie how the week were both days 24 to 30, both were 3 titles predicted, month is double (5 to 10) and 3-games total on that 2010 week is like within 1000 units of FFType-0 debut.

Kirby is a steady seller worldwide. As far as I know.
Yep - the games may not have as high a profile as Mario, Zelda, or Pokemon, but they're consistently strong sellers. Not sure about Epic Yarn, but Super Star Ultra did over a million, I think.

Type 0 has done better than expected by me though less than a lot of people seemed to think, 13-2 I've got a feeling will underperform too maybe only two thirds of 13's numbers

The lowest number allowed imo would be 1.5m. Under would be just terrible.

Wait, what's that new Disgaea 4 game? I'm sure the game didn't come out in Japan just recently. Is it a Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 thing going on with that game?

Might be the just the DLC like with Disgaea 3.

Why? This is doing on par with S-E's PSP efforts? What about this makes people expect more?
I dont know, maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part, I really wanted it to be huge, game looks and sounds amazing :/

If XIII-2 repeated the same fall from X to X-2, it would sell 1.6m.

Given how poorly the last game was received? Unlikely.

That game sold absolutely ridiculous numbers the first week but fell harder than most games I can remember in recent years, added to the fact that XIII-2 isn't lighting up the preorder charts the same way it's predecessor did either. Versus will sell in line with XIII (It always performs well on the weekly preorder charts despite being an unknown distance away from release/vaporware), this won't.

Plenty of well-regarded PS3 games have a big drop-off after the first week, so I don't think that's really that indicative of whether FFXIII was well-received by consumers at large or not.

But there's other stuff too though, namely how when it launched for 360 it didn't even chart in the top 30. Yeah it came out during the holidays and it was for 360 but even then it didn't end up being the best selling 360 game the week it launched, that says something right there.

Not really? Why would anyone in Japan buy FFXIII on the 360 a year after it was released in Japan, with no extras whatsoever? Even for games released on multiplatform, especially more "Japanese" flavored games, the split is already so wide.

Maybe it was for those people who bought 360s for previous SE exclusives. :p

This response was so perfect. lol

Of a different note, more important than its launch will be Super Mario 3D Lands legs. It should do amazing this November as the staple game to buy with the system.

When I went there, there were about 50 people on the queue and all I could see were blue boxes (ie, the Mario package). I can't say ALL of them were buying it, but most were, indeed.
I even saw a couple kids on a small bench nearby playing the game.

I would say the game will do fairly well, which isn't really new for a Mario title.

Then again, while the might might not sell on day 1 as much as a Monster Hunter, in the end it will probably sell a lot, and even more knowing this is probably the only MUST HAVE for 3DS yet.

But yeah, in my experience buying it on a big department store:

It seemed to be doing pretty well.

BOMBA --- type 0 is down to 5800yen at amazon (though i dont know what the discount was before) perhaps s-e shipped a few too many?
