I think people did in general underestimate the PS4's hardware sales but the impact of VR was vastly overestimated. It was a total non-factor which people didn't really expect.

I think Valkyria Revolution is going to be the flop of the month, as the game no one asked for. With Danganronpa V3, we will see the PS Vita version of a game leading once again in 2017 by a pretty large margin. The most optimistic prediction here is probably Gravity Rush 2, I do hope it will be able to reach some The Last Guardian level of performance. Hope I'm not being too conservative with Yoshi, I can only see the game is not getting any interest right now on comgnet or amazon, but after Super Mario Maker 3DS... ¯\_(&#12484_/¯

Then we have the biggest game of the month with Resident Evil 7, a interesting and extremely exciting case. Resident Evil 6 opened with more than 600,000 on PS3 only, so whatever RE7 number is, people are probably just going to dance and yell over the huuuuge drop. But RE7 is the most inexpected game Capcom could bring in every way. No Jill/Chris/Leon (the new protagonist does not even have a face), first person view, fully PS VR playable and a game barely promoted even one month before the release. A complete turnaround from the noisy AAA multicharacter path took by RE4/5/6 with few action and more exploration. It may be called Resident Evil 7, but everything here looks more like a new IP, or a reboot at best. I still don't understand how can anyone at Capcom managed to convince the big boss to take such risks with the game called Resident Evil 7, which was supposed to be the safest game ever (see the last Dead Rising and Monster Hunter iterations). By far the most exciting and daring project ever brought to us by Capcom since... Resident Evil 4 ? My PS VR is fucking ready.

It's a very different game than we've seen before, but Japanese Biohazard fans have been fairly receptive to change and experimentation through the history of the series. Historically, games in the main series have only underperformed on Dreamcast and GameCube. Even side stories have done well on the PlayStation family, including the Outbreak games and Operation Raccoon City. Even a game like Umbrella Chronicles eventually sold more than 400K on Wii.

I'm not going to compare RE7 to RE6 in terms of initial sales performance. RE6 came out following a few years of build up of the franchise on PS3 and came on the back of the million-selling RE5, so it's no surprise that even a game like FFXV can't beat it. Rather, I want to see how RE7 does against RE5.
