One less than everyone was expecting. How many million-plus sellers are there for PS3 in Japan?
It's still very front-loaded, just not quite as much as the most extreme examples.Final Fantasy XIII-2 really ended up showing some impressive legs considering the mega bomb it was claimed to be. It obviously still didn't sell to expectations but throw in a "Best" release and the total SKU's would likely hit 1 million, right?
Sure; it just makes obvious that a giant FF bomb is still better than anything else PS3 has going for it. EDIT: Correction, with its BEST added in Metal Gear Solid 4 has XIII-2 beat by a fair amount.lunchwithyuzo said:I don't really think you can separate the two given FFXIII did ~1.9m already. As a FF game it's a gigantic bomb and as a FF on PS3 it's... still a gigantic bomb.
That's the one.

I just think that PSN ratings is a good indication of retail sales.
Ragnarok got less than 1000 ratings first week, while Gravity Rush was something around 1200, in second week it got +600.
Also, i think only one full game on JP PSN for which we know PSN sales is Steins Gates for PSP - it was 3000k, does anyone care to checkout , how may ratings it got?
Nope. RE5 does if you also add the 360 version. If you add all the re-releases don't RE 5 and MGS4 reach the million too?
I would've said two less, but trolling GT5 at this point is just mean. ;DIce cold, bro'. :-D

In fact when I think of the DS library, I scarcely think of anything wildly new and unprecedentedly creative.
I think of FF3 and FF4, Chrystal Chronicles, DQ 4/5/6/9/Monsters, Chrono Trigger, Radiant Historia, Etrian Odyssey (also coming to 3DS), Rhythm Heaven (began on GBA, continuing on Wii, touch not necessary), Zelda Phantom Hourglass, Zelda Spirit Tracks (both hated BECAUSE they use touch control), New Super Mario Bros., Bowser's Inside Story (3DS is soon getting its own Mario RPG), Mario Kart DS, Contra 4, GTA Chinatown Wars, Metroid Prime Pinball, uh...the list goes on and on.
When you make a statement like that, you basically have one or two games in mind from the DS's earliest years. Kirby's Canvas Curse, Elite Beat Agents, and maybe Yoshi Touch & Go and Nintendogs. On the whole though, the platform is made up of pretty regular (but fantastic!) gaming experiences, and so is the 3DS.
Anyways, the semi controversial point i want to get out is that ports/iterative versions on the 3DS -are not- seen as the same milstone that they are on the Vita. But on the weight of sales evidence that's because they AREN'T!
Yes please, the argument stays the same.
Vita below 14k is a red sign imo, something has to happen/be done to remedy this, or it's going to be too late for a full recovery in the first years.
Watch Ciel no Surge make Vita number explode...end of April. ;P
You mean the mai waifu simulator where the first episode is packaged for retail at 60 dollars, and each month you get to pay another 500yen to get the next episode... for a year?

Resident Evil 5 520,564
Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition 279,951
Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition PlayStation Move Special Pack 7,957
Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition (PlayStation 3 the Best) 109,281
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots 706,461
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (BEST) 189,973
So about ~900k for both. RE5 sold 124k units on X360 though.
Vita is really trending down dangerously. With nothing noteworthy at all in the horizon, and probably the only worthwhile title coming out anytime remotely soon being Persona 4 Golden... it's not going to be good for Sony at all.
this!
I'm surprised the first several comments in the thread noted the success of the one game, while failing to notice the very real lack of Vita sales. It's not just that it's getting destroyed in sales by the 3DS and outsold by the PSP...it's seeing lowering sales month to month (specifically, sales that weren't high to begin with).
That's where the discussion should be here. It's the only new console on the market and it's treading in places it does not want to be in.
When I think of DS, I think of Pokemon and TWEWY.
How is that different from Idolm@ster?
RE5 and RE5AE aren't the same game and can't be combined if you want to go for a full comparison.
I think of Castlevania. Is the only game that can make me change my mind of buying a 3DS instead of Vita right now.
Idolmaster is a complete game and extremely lengthy. The DLC that's offered are extensions of the game similar to how DLC for RPGs are handled. They add optional costumes, accessories, and various elements into the existing game.
Not the same as shipping an incomplete game and then continuing it via DLC!
Let's see if the game will bomb. I'm kinda curious. I agree, it's terrible scheme. Then again, Japan is a country where people buy 3-hour long VN for 90$.
Wait, what 3 hour long VNs are sold for 90 bucks and are successful? I'm really curious here.
Don't VNs last a few hours only, with no replay value? Aren't they even more expensive than regular titles? Sure, they might be on PC, but still - there is a market for something like that, even if we consider it outrageous. Has there been any uproar among the Japanese for Ciel no Surge payment scheme?

Chris, asking this feels a bit like riding on your back but can you find figures for Ghost Babel too ? Thank you much in advance.
Smoker compiled that list for 2010 and 2011 but I was too lazy to search for any year before or 2012. On my to-do list. There are Dengeki charts from 2009 too (and maybe 2008, I don't remember) with extended software data. Captain Smoker used to post them.
Duckroll gonna smite you for talking out yo ass.
Even I know VNs do offer a bunch of re playability since people would want to experience all of the endings.
Amazing that Konami had the balls to release an entry of the series on such hardware, after they moved on PS1. It's almost as much as a bold move as Killer Instinct GB.57.801

What I meant was simply : how do you greenlight a game on a handheld of a series, whose name became famous because of the intense cinematic nature of a cutting-edge entry launched earlier ?
Same for Killer Instinct : it was praised for its graphics and gameplay on SNES, none of which could have been rendered properly on GB. But Rare still went for that way.

Ghost Babel was more of sequel to the older Metal Gear (non solid) series. It took the older style along with some mechanics from MGS and made something original out of it.
I'm not sure what you're getting at?

Of corse It's falling, vita is getting a ps3 syndrome: few new jrpg coming and sony doesn't care. I mean the best cannot be a persona 4 rehash. Imho
How many new jrpgs does Nintendo's 3DS after a year on the market? How long has Vita been on out?

Imho Nintendo doesn't need jrpg on 3ds, people buy it for mario kart/mario landm/Pokemon/Layton and now monster hunter. How many new jrpgs does Nintendo's 3DS after a year on the market? How long has Vita been on out?
